Between schoolwork, online work, homework, products, submitting work, and more, you might feel like you don’t have enough time in the day to plan and complete it.  To keep track of these things and make them a little more manageable, we wanted to give you this free homework planning sheet.  It will help you and your child stay on top of their work.   

I think the hardest part of the homework is learning how to budget time.  This lesson is hard for students to learn (even adults still struggle in this area!).   It’s important to teach our kids to budget & organize their time.  Time management skills are one of the best things we can teach our children. To help our kids tackle the time-management portion of homework, I give them this Homework Planning Sheet  every week.

On top of that, making a “to-do” list helps kids see what has to be done and allows them to check things off once it’s finished.  This gives them a sense of accomplishment.   

This homework planner offers students the benefit of writing down all their tasks, reviewing what they must do, and budgeting their time to fit it all in.   

It gives them a chance to look at the upcoming week and write down everything that they have to do for the week.  They can see exactly what needs to be done and when they need to do it.    We write in things like practice or appointments on certain days, so they can see where they will have limited time.

This homework planner is an easy way to help our kids with time management and organization.

Why do children fall behind on classwork? 

• Procrastination.   Are they setting aside enough time to complete their work?   Are they doing it before other things each day (before relaxing, sports, etc.)
• Confusion.  Does your child understand the material and what they are asked to do for their homework?  Sometimes children ignore their homework because it is too confusing, and they are embarrassed to ask for help, admitting failure. 

Tips to Remember While Doing School Work at Home: 

• Have a system for completed work.   When our kids finish their work and it has been submitted, we keep it in case the teacher can’t find it later (emails get lost, and I didn’t want our kids to have to repeat the work).   We kept one bin per child. We would paperclip the work from the week together and a piece of paper with the date on it (paperclipped to the top of the pile).  We’d throw it into the bin.  Simple. 
• Use this time to teach your child time-management skills.  Work before play.   It’s a lesson best learned when your child is young. 
• Use our Homework Organization Tip (which has worked for us for several years.)

When life threw everyone a curveball last spring and schools shut down, we were flustered but I felt an incredible need to organize as much as I could (especially with everything else totally outside of my control.) My daughter is the same way, she loves a good checklist and thrives on following schedules. While the teachers were trying as hard as they could, we knew we needed a way to keep track of what was due, and when.

That’s when I created this printable student weekly planner to organize assignments. It can also be used to write down that week’s schedule, homework, and even habit tracking. It really came in handy to organize everything during a stressful time!

It’s great for all ages– for younger kids, you can draw icons to represent what you’re doing when. Older kids can fill it in themselves. Heck, it’s versatile enough that awesome adults like you can use it to plan meals, write down virtual learning schedules, or plan your homeschooling lessons!

(I even added a chore block to my kids’ schedule… they’re pitching in around the house and writing down one big chore a day was helpful for all of us.)

How to Use the Free Printable Student Planner

• Download it to your computer and print (see instructions above.)
• Fill out the far left column with time blocks or subject areas, depending on how you’re using the planner. Writing in time blocks creates a ‘block schedule’ that shows what is happening at that time each day, and writing subject areas allows for writing down the assignments or lessons for that subject each day.
• I recommend clipping to a clipboard or protecting with a clear plastic dry erase pocket . You can then hang it on the wall using Command Strip Hooks . Another idea is to three hole punch it or place in a page protector and add it to a binder.

You’ve read it, our printable for today is for the school kids and yup, it’s a free printable kids planner this time! I think you’ll agree with me on this: Planners are NOT just for grown-ups, it’s for the kids, too!  Giving a planner to your children is actually a  smart move; it’s something that has to be done as soon as you think they’re ready. If you find using a planner useful, kids might benefit from having one of their own as well. Do you agree?

Ever since Grade 1, my son Kyle has been using a planner. It’s mandatory in his entire school that every student be issued with one. He didn’t like it initially but he eventually figured its use. Now that he’s in grade 2, he organizes his activities with his nifty planner. He uses the planner to keep up with this every day schedule in school and it’s helping him a lot!

Today, I thought of creating some new basic planner layouts for the boy. We haven’t started using the planners yet, but soon we will! In addition, I have also created planners for older kids to share with you!

Here then, is the basic planner that I have created for the kids. I strongly believe that this is going to be a great way to start to teach time management skills to the young ones. Moms, I strongly suggest that you get a copy of this free printable planner for kids now. I hope (and I am guessing) your children will like it!

This first free printable planning sheet will let the kids write their everyday activities for the entire week. It also has a box for their doodles as well as their personal reminders at the bottom of the page.

Moving on, the next planning sheet included is for the older kids who can already be introduced with the “time blocking” system. This is my favorite planner for the kids. It holds spots for “Acts of Kindness,” “Homework,” and “Chores”. How to Use Our Free Printable Kids Planner and Printing Reminders

Print the Kids Planner in letter-sized papers but remember, kids don’t need to use all the planning sheets at once. Just pick the planners that you think will work for them and stick with those planners for a while until they ‘master’ the use Then, you may introduce other organizers next time. To make planning fun, allow the kids to make own the organizing binder by letting them add their drawings, etc.

Student Planners: A Playbook for Life with ADHD

Between homework, books and projects, keeping a child organized for school can be tough. but adhd adds an extra set of rules. learn how to choose the best student planner to keep your child on the road to classroom success..

Most teachers agree that planners are essential. Students who use them usually earn As and Bs. Students who don’t often miss deadlines and lose points on tests, classroom assignments, and projects.

Many students — especially those with ADHD — don’t like using a planner. They think it’s a hassle. My students find planners restricting. “I’m a laid-back person, so planners don’t work for me,” they say. I tell them, “Even laid-back people need to keep track of assignments, deadlines, and appointments. I have never met a student who wants to lose track of things.”

I compare planners to a playbook in sports. A planner can serve as a playbook for their life by helping students play offense to manage their homework and to make time for “fun stuff” that they want to do. It also helps them play defense, guarding against the things that pull them off track.

Then I explain why using a planner has been so challenging for them. “You need to use your planner several times a day, but every time you need it, it’s difficult to access. By the time you find it, open it, and flip to the correct page, your teachers have moved on … and you get lost.” They usually nod, appreciating the fact that I understand their pain.

How to Set Up a Planner

1) USE THE RIGHT PLANNER. The ideal planner will be thin, with a spiral binding and a weekly page layout. Avoid bulky planners and leather covers.

2) USE A BINDER CLIP TO MARK YOUR CURRENT PAGE. Every extra page-flip adds stress to an ADHD brain. A binder clip becomes a “handle” for one-flip access.

3) KEEP A PEN IN THE SPIRAL BINDING to avoid the “pen hunt” that often brings use of a planner to a screeching halt.

How to Use a Planner

1) KEEP THE PLANNER ACCESSIBLE. Students should keep their planner in the front pocket of their book bag or a binder that they carry to their classes. It should take no more than two small actions to retrieve their planner.

2) REVIEW “TRANSITION POINTS” clearly. Now that students can access their planner quickly, they should try to anticipate when to use it. Common transition points include: Sunday evening (see below), the time in each class to record assignments and due dates as they are announced, at the locker as they are packing up at the end of the day, at home to track the assignments they need to do, and a before-bedtime final check, ensuring that all of their assignments, books, and supplies are in their book bag.

3) WRITE QUICKLY. Encourage your child to use “texting” language, so she can keep up with the rest of the class.

4) NEVER RELY ON MEMORY. Students with ADHD/ADD often say that their assignments are so simple that they can remember them without writing them down. The problem is that they forget, or they use valuable mental bandwidth trying to remember. Students with ADHD have the most to gain from writing in their planner, taking pressure off their frontal cortex.

How Parents Can Help

A meeting at the beginning of the week (on Sunday evening) works miracles in improving the use of a planner! Everyone in the family grabs their planners or calendars to discuss the week ahead.

Parents can start by telling family members about their weekly schedule — everything from deadlines at work to carpool plans. This sets the stage for children to respond with their plans. This is a great way for the family to coordinate and avoid last-minute conflicts. Most important, it drives home the importance of “thinking forward.”

When students with ADHD use their planners consistently, it’s a “pass” to great grades!

As a parent I’m constantly trying to give my kids more ways to be more organized. There are two ways to customize this weekly planner printable:

• Customize after you have printed the printable
• Customize using Canva (free).

Customize after the Printable is Printed

You can customize the weekly planner and activity cards by using the blank ones provided. Draw and write on them with your kids to make them personalized.

Customize Using Canva

With Canva, you have the option to personalize both the weekly planner and activity cards. By signing up for Canva's free service, you can create the ultimate weekly planner tailored to your preferences.

Here are some ideas for customization:

• Change the order of days to start with Monday instead of Sunday.
• Type in your child's name
• Add a customized activity card with a selected image (provided by Canva)
• Translate the printable and the activity cards into another language
• Rename the activities

How to Prepare Weekly Planner?

Before we get started, let's look at the supply list you will need for our printable.

• Scissors and/or paper trimmer
• White card stock paper
• Laminator pouches
• Clear Velcro dots
• Clothes pin (optional)

Instructions:

1. Download

Download the weekly planner for kids printable . The free printable will be available in your mailbox once you have signed up for the newsletter subscription. Select your preferred language for download.

Open the files with  Adobe PDF Reader . You can download it for free.

You can print the file by clicking on the “Printer” icon after opening it in Adobe PDF Reader. Select the pages you would like to print.

Verify that it will print in  landscape  mode and choose “fit” from the page sizing & handling session.

Print with white card stock paper .

Cut out the cards along the gray dotted lines. You can select which cards you need for the printable.

You can use a  paper trimmer  and/or a pair of  scissors  for cutting.

5. Glue & Laminate

Use laminator pouches to insert the weekly planner printable. For the cards, glue the cards into the laminator pouch and make sure there is some space between each card.

Then, laminate them using a  laminator .

For heavier weight and extra durability, I use five mil laminator pouches.

For older kids that do not need visual cards, you can skip the cards procedure and the next steps.

6. Cut again

Cut out the cards once more leaving a bit of the laminated border.

7. Attach Velcro dots

Place the soft side (loop) of the velcro dots in the center and on the back of each card.

Place the rough side (hook) of the velcro dot on the weekly planner printable. There should be 4 velcro dots for each weekday.

Tips for Your Kids to Use the Weekly Planner

• Consider involving your children in the decision-making process for scheduling their day. While some tasks are mandatory, like tidying up or doing homework, let them decide how their time is divided.
• Break down daily tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks. By breaking tasks into smaller pieces and focusing on one at a time, kids can feel a sense of accomplishment with each completed step and stay motivated to finish their schedule.
• Incorporate fun activities into the schedule. Make time for family outings, special playdates, and individual activities your child enjoys doing. This gives them something to look forward to on a daily basis that motivates and encourages them.
• Reward your children for completing the tasks on the schedule. Offering a reward will give them a sense of accomplishment and encourage them to stick to their routine.
