University of the Cumberlands (UC), a private nonprofit institution established in 1888 in Williamsburg, Kentucky, offers over 40 undergraduate and various graduate programs. It is one of the fastest-growing institutions in the U.S. for international student enrollment. UC's main campus is located at 6178 College Station Drive, Williamsburg, KY, with a Northern Kentucky branch in Florence. University of the Cumberlands' Executive Program requires students to take three courses per semester .

The academic year includes three semesters: Fall, Spring, and Summer.

Each semester is divided into two Bi-Terms. Students can apply for admission at the start of each Bi-Term.

The Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is an integral part of the program.

The program requires 3 courses per semester across Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. 2 courses focus on academic content, while the third involves an Applied Learning Practicum (CPT), integrating real-world experience.

Steps for Day-1 CPT Application:

• Secure a job/internship directly related to the student's field of study (requires a formal Offer Letter).
• Complete the CPT application or CPT update form.
• Submit CPT application materials to the school's DSO, including the employer-signed Offer Letter (within six months), job description, employer's CPT Authorization Form, and signed CPT Cooperation Agreement.
• Upon CPT approval, receive a new I-20, and start working according to the CPT start date on the I-20.

Onsite Frequency : Students must attend a mandatory three-day offline session each semester, typically held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, essential for maintaining F1 student status.

If you missed ONSITE Class:

• Mandatory Attendance: Students must attend each onsite session. Only one missed session is allowed for makeup during the program; a second absence leads to expulsion.
• Make-up Class and Fee: Missing a session incurs a $300 make-up class fee. Students may need to provide documentation to the program department justifying their absence.
• Completion Deadline: Make-up sessions must be completed before the semester ends. Non-compliance results in expulsion.

How to Make Up a Missed Class?

• The academic department will contact you to inform you of the location, time, and date for the make-up session.
• Only one make-up opportunity for an onsite course is provided each semester.
• Failure to attend the three-day make-up session will be considered a failure, potentially leading to expulsion and possible termination in the SEVIS system

In the executive format programs, the applied learning component (internship/practicum) is a crucial element of the curriculum. Consequently, executive format students are required to enroll in INTR during every term of their program. Furthermore, with the approval of the Department Director and/or Chair, completing three (3) hours of INTR 799/899 can substitute for LEAS 836 as part of the degree requirements.

University of the Cumberlands offers six enrollment windows throughout the year. The application deadlines vary across different programs, with most adopting a rolling admissions approach, ceasing once capacity is reached. It is advisable to apply at least four weeks before the start of the term.

UCPA students experience air evac helicopter

For the first time in the history of University of the Cumberlands’ Williamsburg physician assistant (PA) program, representatives from Air Evac Lifeteam flew a helicopter onto campus for the students to have a simulated experience of transferring a patient to the helicopter and become familiar with how to maneuver in the limited space a chopper provides while simultaneously administering life-saving care.

The helicopter landed in a parking lot on the outskirts of Cumberlands’ Williamsburg campus. After waiting for the turbines to cool and the propellor blades to stop and lower, students were welcomed onto the chopper to familiarize themselves with the layout of the space and the available healthcare tools and machinery within the vehicle.

Air Evac Lifeteam (AEL) is a nationwide business. The experts from AEL who visited Cumberlands’ Williamsburg campus are based out of Corbin, Kentucky, at Baptist Health Hospital. They service multiple nearby counties (including Whitley County, in which Williamsburg is located). The UC Williamsburg PA faculty and staff were grateful to AEL for offering their time and expertise to provide this opportunity for the students.

Joe Bradshaw, program director at AEL – 79 (Corbin), said, “Medical care is all just one big chain held together by links. Air medical, like us, is one of those links that help put the chain completely together so that patient care – whether it starts out in the country or on the side of the road at a car wreck – that patient has a safe way to move up the chain, so to speak, from that location to a hospital that can help them. Air medical does everything from routine transfer from one clinic or hospital to another, all the way to stabilizing someone in an emergency medical situation. Events like this, bringing a helicopter onto campus, is good familiarization for these students.”

For the past few years, members of Air Evac Lifeteam have visited Cumberlands to teach PA students classes on advanced life support. The students complete certifications in these areas, and, soon enough, they are required to pass a trauma final as part of the required PA school curriculum. This year, AEL took things up a notch and brought a helicopter onto campus. The excitement was palpable.

“We really appreciate the air evac team. They help us a lot,” said Kenzie Jones, PA student. “When they started tossing around the idea of doing this event, we all got excited. Our professors were excited too. This is an opportunity some other PA programs don’t get, and it gives us real-world examples of how to do these things.”

Jones is interested in pursuing emergency medicine as a future PA, so the event was extra appealing to her.

“In air evac, you have an emergency situation where you’re literally trying to save somebody’s life, you’re in a tight space, there is so much going on, and it is a high-pressure situation,” she said. “It’s amazing what air medics can accomplish.”

Jones’ friend and fellow PA student Juliette DePhilippis had a more humorous take on the value of the event.

“For the last year, we’ve been buried behind books. So, this, right now, is really fun!” DePhillipis said. “It is very valuable to have an introduction to this and see a helicopter. I’ve never been around that before, so it’s completely new for me. Knowing we are going into clinical rotations next month, having hands-on experience like this is completely invaluable.”

University of the Cumberlands hosts a PA program in Williamsburg as well as a separate PA program in Florence, Kentucky. Both programs have experienced noteworthy success in recent years, such as a 100 percent PANCE pass rate for both programs in 2023. CWRU, UC, OSU, Ursuline named in top 50 graduate school program rankings by U.S. News & World Report

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Multiple Ohio universities landed in the top 50 rankings for best graduate programs in various fields, according to the new 2024-2025 U.S. News and World Report Best Graduate Programs Rankings released Tuesday.

Ohio State University was the big winner in Ohio, tying for the No. 4 best overall nursing school in the country with the University of Pennsylvania and Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. It improved four sports from the previous year.

In addition, OSU ranked No. 21 for the overall graduate education program, No. 26 for the overall graduate law program, and No. 30 for the overall graduate business program, which is the top Ohio school in each category.

The only other Ohio schools to be in the top 50 rankings in one of the four categories were Case Western Reserve University (No. 17 in Nursing), the University of Cincinnati (No. 41 in Nursing), and Ursuline College (No. 41 in Nursing).

Specializations within graduate programs

Several Ohio State graduate programs also ranked among the top 10 programs in the country in specialized categories.

For full-time MBA programs, Ohio State ranked sixth in supply chain management, eighth in production operations and ninth in accounting. John Carroll University tied for No. 14 in international business.

OSU also tied for No. 10 for part-time MBA programs in the country.

In education, OSU ranked sixth in educational administration and supervision, seventh in curriculum and instruction, seventh in student counseling, eighth in elementary teacher education, eighth in secondary teacher education, ninth in education psychology and ninth in higher education administration programs.

For law programs, OSU ranked No. 1 for dispute resolution. Case Western Reserve University ranked No. 13 in international law.

For nursing, OSU ranked second in adult primary care nurse practitioner, second in family nurse practitioner, fourth in leadership, sixth in family nurse practitioner, fifth in adult gerontology acute care, and sixth in psychiatric nurse practitioner.

CWRU ranked fourth in adult primary care nurse practitioners.

Change in methodology

For business programs, Best Business Schools ranking of full-time MBA programs placed more emphasis on earnings through a new ranking factor that assessed how each school’s post-graduate salaries across different professions compared with other schools’ post-graduate salaries in those professions.

U.S. News published updated rankings of graduate programs in audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, nurse-midwifery, and speech-language pathology for the first time since 2020. Social work was ranked for the first time since 2022, and nurse anesthesia was ranked for the first time since 2016. These rankings are all based solely on reputational data.

Rankings for medical schools and engineering schools will be released at a later date.
