The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

11 13 19 4 26 20 AM

Presented by EA Game Changers

Getting into university is one thing; excelling in university is quite another. For most people, the joys of university lie in balancing work with pleasure. A little studying here, a little partying there, leading to an overall well-rounded university experience.

This guide is not for the casual university student. This guide will walk you through how to throw yourself completely into your education in order to achieve the best grades (and the best future) possible. Throw away your juice kegs and break out those textbooks because school is all you’re going to know for the next three terms.

For a breakdown on scholarships and applying to university, see our guide, Discover University: Applying to University !

Class Selections

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

Of course, it all starts with enrolling and selecting your degree and classes. No matter which degree you pursue, you’ll have to select up to 4 classes per term. Classes change every term so you’ll see new ones available every time you select your classes at the start of term. You can’t change which classes you’ll be taking for your degree; you can only choose the number of classes.

However, Sims have the option of enrolling in 1 elective each term. Electives are fun classes that focus on skills outside of your degree and you will be able to select which elective your Sim will take that term. There are all kinds of electives that span a wide variety of skills. Electives are fully integrated across all packs, so depending on which add-on content you have installed, you may see different electives for skills from different packs.

Electives are optional; your Sim doesn’t need to take any electives at all, but if they do choose to take an elective, they can only take up to 3 other classes. Sims are limited to 4 classes per term in total, so either 4 classes, or 3 classes and 1 elective.

Our recommendation? Take 3 classes and 1 elective every term for maximum academic success. Electives still count as credits towards your degree so taking an elective doesn’t hurt your progress at all, plus your Sim will graduate with a few extra skills thanks to the electives they took.

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

One term last 5 working days. There is no way to shorten or lengthen a term. They are fixed periods. Sims can begin a new term anytime during the week, but weekends don’t count as term days. If your Sim starts a new term on a Friday, the term won’t end until Thursday the following week. Starting a new term in the middle of the week can be a good academic strategy for dedicated students because it will give them the weekend to catch up on homework and final assignments.

How many terms your Sim needs to complete in order to graduate is entirely dependent on how many classes they decide to take per term. A Sim needs to earn 12 credits in order to graduate.

Here is the breakdown of how many terms your Sim will need to complete based upon their classes:

  • 4 classes per term = 3 terms (15 working days)
  • 3 classes per term = 4 terms (20 working days)
  • 2 classes per term = 6 terms (30 working days)
  • 1 class per term = 12 terms (60 working days)

These calculations are based on the assumption that your Sim completes the same number of classes every term. It is possible to take a different number of classes each term (4 classes one term, 2 the next term, for example), in which case the number of terms needed to graduate will vary.

Even if a Sim only takes 3 terms to graduate, they will still spend the majority of their young adult life in university; however, unlike past Sims games, your Sims are not trapped on campus with no way to work or live a life outside of university. Sims can live wherever they want, have a job, and raise a family while going to school, so this balances things out. If the length of university is not ideal for your play style, we recommend turning aging off in the game options while your Sim is in university. That way, they don’t lose any time to climb a career ladder or pursue other life goals.

Of course, you will want to be taking 4 classes every term for maximum efficiency. Sims who don’t mind sacrificing their social life and plan to devote all their time to their studies should take a full course load every term.

Attending Classes

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

It’s important to actually attend class in order to get the most out of your university education. Missing class will hurt your grades. Sims in the area will autonomously try to get to class a little early. Sims who’ve arrived to class early will wait outside the building with the other early bird students. This can be a good time to get some last minute homework finished or to quickly finish the rest of that coffee and snack you purchased to-go at the cafe vendor.

While your Sim is inside the classroom rabbithole, they will have various options available to them by clicking on their portrait, much like the different work options for inactive careers. Click the class icon on the Sim’s portrait to see the various actions they can take in class. Sims can Actively Listen, Take Notes, Sleep in Class, or Chat with Friends. To get the most out of every class, make sure your Sim is taking notes or actively listening. I’m sure we don’t need to tell you that sleeping in class and chatting with friends are not good ways to improve your grades.

If you’re taking a full course load, it’s likely that your Sim will have more than one class in a day, or even back to back classes. Make sure to check the career panel often to keep track of your class schedule so you can budget your time for homework, finals, and self-care effectively.

Ideally, you will want your Sim to attend every single class with all of their homework completed and taking an active role in the class while they are there. This will ensure your Sim gets the most out of their classes and, in turn, gets the best grades at the end of term.

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

Every course your Sim takes has homework due before every class. When your Sim enrolls in university, they are automatically given a homework notebook in their personal inventory. Sims can complete homework for all their classes using this notebook. Homework takes some time to complete, but Sims with high enough Research & Debate skill complete homework faster.

Sims who stay on top of their homework and pay attention in class will get more out of attending classes and it will have a positive impact on their final grade. Always complete homework before every class and actively pay attention in class for maximum academic success.

In addition to homework that must be completed on a regular basis throughout the term, each class also has a final. Finals are very important and worth a large chunk of your grade. Skipping out on your finals will have a big negative impact on your final grade, so make sure you complete all of them.

Each class will have different requirements for its final. Some classes will require your Sim to write a term paper. Others have final exams and presentations. Look at your class schedule in the career panel to see what’s required of each class.

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

Exams take place during the last class of the term. If your Sim has done all their homework and attended all their classes, they’re likely to do well on their exam, but Sims can also study for a class using a course book purchased from the university kiosk, a computer, or research station to boost their chances of doing well on their exam.

Don’t miss your final exam! Failing to write the exam results in a big fat zero and will seriously hurt your final grade!

PSST! You can also cheat on your exam by selecting the option on your Sim’s portrait while they’re in the exam… but you would never do that… would you? Getting caught has serious consequences.

Term Papers

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

Term papers can be written on the computer under the University menu option. A Sim can write and submit a term paper for a class at any point during the term, so dedicated Sims might want to get these out of the way early.

Term papers take a long time to complete, but Sims with high enough Research & Debate skill complete term papers faster. The first draft of a term paper is usually poor quality. Your Sim can submit poor quality term papers, but f they want the best grade, they should spend some time editing their paper before they submit it.

Term papers can be edited until they are outstanding quality. You’ll receive a notification telling you that your term paper won’t benefit from any further editing once your Sim has increased its quality to outstanding. Scrolling over the term paper option in the computer’s menu will tell you the quality of the term paper.

When your Sim is satisfied with the quality of their paper, they can submit it using the computer.

PSST! You can also plagiarize your term papers by selecting the plagiarize option on the computer… but you would never do that… would you? Getting caught has serious consequences.

Presentations

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

Your Sim will receive a presentation board in their personal inventory at the start of term for any classes that have a presentation requirement as their final. Presentations function similar to term papers; your Sim will need to compile all of their material on the board, then refine the presentation board until it’s suitable to present in class.

To start, drag the presentation board out of your Sim’s inventory and into the world somewhere, then choose the Capture Information option on the board. Your Sim will spend some time compiling all their material for their presentation onto the board. When they’ve finished, they will have a poor quality presentation board. You can see the board’s quality by hovering over it.

Sims can improve the quality of their presentation by refining and organizing it, and asking other Sims for feedback on their presentation. They can also practice their presentation. Practicing presentations builds the Charisma skill. Once the board cannot be improved any further, you will receive a notification informing you that your Sim’s presentation board looks great and that continuing to fiddle with it won’t improve it any more.

When your Sim is satisfied with the quality of their presentation, they can go to class with the presentation board in their inventory and present it. Presentations do not take place during regular classes; your Sim must click on the class rabbithole and select the presentation option. Presentations can only be given during the day. Your Sim won’t be able to present in the middle of the night.

Final Grades & Starting a New Term

The Sims 4 Discover University: Guide to Academic Success

If your Sim has done all their homework, attended every class as an active participant, and completed all their finals with outstanding quality, they should have no trouble getting an A+ grade in every class. However, perfect grades don’t come easy. You’ll find that your Sim has little to no time for extracurricular activities, organizations, or socialising when they are taking 4 classes and trying to achieve an A+ grade in every single one of them. University is definitely a rewarding challenge in The Sims 4 , just like in the real world.

Since grades aren’t given out until the end of term, it’s up to your Sim to take a proactive approach to finding out how they’re doing in their classes. They can visit their professors during their office hours or email them on the computer to get an idea of how they’re performing in their classes and how they can improve.

Once all coursework has been submitted, your Sim will be free to enjoy themselves (for once) while their final grades are being processed. Once the final grades are in, you’ll receive a popup with all your final grades for each class, as well as your overall GPA.

From there, you can choose to enroll in another term right away, or take some time off before starting a new term. If your Sim has any scholarships, they must enroll in a new term immediately or they will lose their scholarships. Tuition costs for the new term will be handled at this point as well. Sims can pay with household funds or take out a loan to pay any tuition costs for the new term that scholarships don’t cover.

Your Sim will also be given the opportunity to make different housing arrangements at the start of each new term. They can choose to stay wherever they are currently living, or move somewhere else. This change does not happen right away. Your Sim will have about a day left in their old residence, which gives them an opportunity to pack up any personal items they may have purchased for their living space. A small “Packing Up” event will occur a couple hours before the move to remind your Sim to gather up their things, too.

As long as your Sim continues on the path to success they started in their first term, all their future terms are bound to result in perfect A+ grades across the board. Keep doing that homework, working on those finals, and paying attention in class!

How to Complete Coursework

In The Sims 4: Discover University , your Sim will need to pass their classes in order to graduate with their chosen Degree, which includes completing Coursework like written papers and taking exams.

This guide teaches you everything you need to know about How to Complete Coursework in TS4, including writing and submitting papers, taking exams, and creating a presentation.

Click on any of the links below to automatically scroll to that section of this guide:

What is Coursework in The Sims 4?

How to write a term paper, how to take final exam, how to give a presentation.

In the Discover University Expansion Pack, student Sims who have enrolled in a degree will have to attend classes to pass the semester (which lasts a week). Showing up isn't enough, though—it also includes Coursework.

Because university life is so hectic, you will need to make sure your Sim balances work and study because if they're too busy with a job to go to class and complete their Coursework, they won't be able to graduate.

Sims 4 writing.png

To learn more about Degrees, including types and what careers your Sim can go into after graduating, check out our Degrees guide .

There are three types of Coursework:

  • Written Term Paper
  • Presentation

You can view each class your Sim is signed up for and what Coursework they'll need to complete that semester by clicking on the Career tab on your hotbar (or simply press J).

Sims 4 coursework.jpg

To write a Term Paper, your Sim will need access to a PC. Click on the PC, then "University" > "University Coursework" > "Term Paper." Here, you'll see two options: "Write Term Paper" and "Submit Plagiarized Term Paper."

If you want your Sim to get a good grade, don't cheat as it's impossible to get an A with a fake paper. Instead, choose for them to write it themselves.

Sims 4 pc coursework.jpg

After a few hours, your Sim will have produced their first draft. You can choose to hand this in but for a better grade, go back to the PC and click on "Edit Term Paper". Do this multiple times until you get a notification popup that says it is the best it can be. Now you can "Submit Term Paper" from the computer.

In Discover University , doing the Final Exam is easy: your Sim just goes to class on one of the final days of the semester and takes it automatically. But this doesn't mean there isn't work to do, though. If you want your Sim to get a high grade, they need to study.

Click on a PC, then "University" > "University Coursework" > "Study" and then choose the class the Final Exam is for. For a good grade, it's ideal that they study at least twice—the more, the better. They may also need to study for more than one class if multiple have a Final Exam as Coursework so make sure they have enough time to fit it all in!

Sims 4 study.png

It is also a good idea to raise the Skill that the class is tied to; again, the higher the better. You can check this in the Career tab in your hotbar.

This is the most confusing piece of Coursework your Sim is given as the game does not mention what you need to do, leaving you to figure it out for yourself. Upon starting the semester, a Presentation Board will be put in your Sim's inventory which you must place in the world.

Have your Sim interact with the board and "Compile Information." They will spend an hour or two throwing ideas onto the board. You can submit it like this, but if you want a higher grade, you will need to "Refine and Organize" until a popup appears notifying you it's the best it can be.

Sims 4 presentation.png

If you "Practice Presenting," your Sim's Charisma Skill will increase—something that you should ideally make them do a couple of times as it can help with the grade. Once this is done, your Sim will now be ready to hand their Presentation in.

Presentations can only be handed in during school hours: from Monday to Friday between 8AM and 4PM. Your Sim will be in class for a couple of hours while they present.

Sims 4 final presentation.jpg

Homework is separate from Coursework but is just as important. It is a daily task, meaning you'll have to do it for each of your Sim's classes every day. It takes a couple of hours to complete it for each class.

To do Homework, go to your Sim's inventory and you'll see a black and white class book. You can either click it from the inventory itself or place it in the world and then click it, but when you do, homework options for each of your Sim's classes will pop up.

Your Sim will go and sit down somewhere to finish their homework, and their progress can be tracked in the Action Queue on the bottom left. The more homework your Sim does, the better their grade will be for that class at the end of the semester.

The Sims 4: How to Get an A in University

If you really want your sims to struggle, you should send them to University. This is one of the hardest expansion packs we’ve gotten thus far for The Sims 4, and it’s well needed.

Having your sim attend University is simple, just go and hope for the best, however, if you want to get an A in University, you’re going to need to put in some work.

While other students will be at keg parties and attending soccer games, you’re going to be at the library or the commons studying into all hours of the night.

If you want to graduate with honours and have your sim get the best possible grades, you should follow this guide to get the most out of going to school.

In this guide we are going to talk about the importance of choosing your course load, attending your classes, doing homework, and making sure to do your end of term work.

Did you know we have a Youtube Channel ? We make videos to go along with these articles and how to videos, as well as some gameplay stuff. You should definitely subscribe to us on Youtube !

Choosing Where to Live

It may not seem like choosing where you’re going to live for University matters much, it’s just where you sleep. However, there are certain factors that make living off campus on your own a better option.

First, you’ll spend less time cleaning up after other sims when they are messy, which can waste precious studying time. You also won’t have the annoyance of people in your room, or on your computer, or walking in on you while you’re showing like what happens in a dorm room.

Second, living off campus will give you access to a full kitchen on your lot and you won’t have to travel to the University commons just to get every single meal which will save you tons of time.

Finally, living in your own home means that you can give it the Study Spot lot trait which will help your sims pursue their studies and do better in their classes.

If you want your sim to graduate with honours and get all A’s, you should probably live alone, but it is possible to do in a dorm or shared housing.

Choosing Your Course Load

An important factor to consider if you’re trying to do well in University is how many classes you’re planning on taking.

Your sim has the option to take 4 classes, this can be 4 core classes or 3 core classes and an elective. An elective is just a fun class where they can gain a skill that is unrelated to their major.

You can take an elective every semester if you want, as these courses still count toward your degree and they will just give you some new skills that your sim doesn’t yet have.

You don’t have any say over which core classes you’ll be taking for your major, but you can choose how many you want to take. You can even just take 1 class a semester, however, this means you’ll be in school for most of your sim’s life.

Now, if you want your sim to get an A in University, you need to really think about how much work you want to do. If you take a full course load you’re really going to struggle to get straight A’s and still have your sim’s needs be met.

What is a good number of classes? Well, I recommend taking two regular classes and then one elective for a total of three classes . This means that you’ll be in school for 4 terms, or 20 days. You may want to turn off aging because this will be the entirety of your sim’s young adulthood.

Taking 4 classes is a lot and essentially means your sim can’t join any after school activities, organizations or anything else.

Going to Class

A simple fact of life is that failing to go to your classes each day, is going to make you not do as well at school. You won’t fail just because you never attend class (although it is a huge factor), but you won’t get an A either.

You must attend every single class for your all of the classes you’re taking if you want to get straight A’s. Also, you need to be on time for every class, it’s rather simple for you to be late if you live on campus so make sure that your sim isn’t doing anything that could distract them from leaving on time.

Sometimes when you live on campus, your sim will attend class early which is a great option to make sure that you’re leaving on time. All the sims will wait outside the building with their little homework notebooks and it’s absolutely adorable.

You also want to make sure that your sim is in a decent mood before they go to class so they aren’t distracted or in a bad mood. You can even pack a snack or grab a to-go snack from the coffee cart for a quick pick me up in between classes.

Being Active in Class

Although classes in The Sims 4: Discover University are rabbit holes, you still have the option of changing how your sim is learning in that class.

You can click on the little briefcase on top of your sim while they are in class and you’ll be given the following options:

  • Attend Class Normally
  • Chat with Students
  • Actively Listen
  • Sleep in Class
  • Leave Early

Some of these interactions are going to hurt your sim’s grades including: sleep in class, leave early, and chat with students .

If you want your sim to do well, you should choose either actively listen or take notes as these can help. However, this will also decrease your sims fun need quicker than just attending normally.

Doing Homework

Once your sim is enrolled in school they are going to get a black and white homework notebook that you can find in their inventory. This notebook is essential for doing well in University.

You’re going to have homework for every single class that you’re taking that is due before the next time you attend class. This means you need to start your homework before the term actually starts!

Your sim may arrive at University on a Monday, but their term won’t start until the next day, but their homework needs to be done before class. So after your sim has settled, you need to start working on their next day’s homework.

Homework takes a few hours but if your sim has a higher level of the new research and debate skill they will finish their homework quicker which is extremely convenient.

Doing Coursework

Every class that you’re taking will have daily homework, but will also have one larger task that you need to do throughout the course of the term.

There are three different types of coursework your sim may have: presentations, term papers, and final exams.

Preparing Presentations

One of the tasks your sim may need to complete is a presentation . When your term starts you’ll get a presentation board in your sim’s inventory, it’s a giant green board that’s empty when you get it.

You’ll need to drag this item out of your sim’s inventory and place it somewhere on their lot so they can work on it. The first step is to compile all the information on the board, when this task is complete the project will look like a mess.

While you’re working on the project you can hover over it to see the quality, if you want an A we need an excellent or outstanding presentation! At this point, it will probably be poor.

The next step is to organize the board and refine your information until it’s a better qualtiy presentation. You can also ask other sim’s for feedback before you do this to get another perspective and make it even better quality.

Once the project is as good as it’s going to get your sim will get a notification that they are done editing the presentation and continuing to refine won’t do much other than give them more knowledge for the class.

You can still practice your presentation to improve your charisma skill , I suggest you do this at least once if you want to get an A in your class.

Once your sim has practiced their presentation and it is excellent or outstanding quality it’s time to present. You can only present from 8am – 4pm on weekdays, so you need to plan accordingly and it needs to be presented before the last day of classes.

To present, you click on the project and your sim will be sent away into a rabbit hole where they will be gone for around two hours doing their presentation.

Writing Term Papers

The next option your sim may get is to write a term paper, this works pretty similarly to the presentation where you need to complete the paper then edit it and submit it on the computer.

The nice thing about writing papers and doing presentations is that you can get it done right away and don’t need to worry about it every day until the term ends, you can write it in the first day of classes if you want!

A sim who has a really high research and debate skill will finish their term paper much, much quicker which is really helpful. It may even be useful to plan ahead for this and get your teen sims to work on this skill before they age up and attend school.

A term paper is written on the computer under the University > Coursework section. You will spend a few hours writing this paper and it can be done in more than one sitting. There’s also the option to submit a stolen paper, but this is not how you get an A!

Once you finish the first draft of your paper, chances are it’s going to be poor quality. You’ll need to edit the paper at least once, maybe twice until you get a notification letting you know that you aren’t going to be able to make it any better.

At this point, continuing to edit the paper will just give you more knowledge but is really a waste of time since there’s other classes to focus on. At this point you can submit your term paper.

To check the quality of your paper before submitting you can hover over the submit button and it will let you know what level it is so you don’t submit a poor quality paper.

Studying for Exams

When you see that your only coursework for the semester is to take final exam , you may feel excited since all you have to do is write the exam. Well, you’re wrong! You need to study all semester.

If you want your sim to just do okay, you can send them to the exam without any preparation. However, if you want them to get an A, you need to study.

There are a few different ways to study for exams. The first is to click on a computer and under the University section you’ll see university coursework , if you click on that you can see the option to study ! You can choose the class where you have a final exam and this will be helpful.

You can also study using the new research machines that are found in the commons or at the library. You’ll see a study for … option.

Finally, you can purchase a textbook for your courses at one of the kiosks located in the quad at the University. This is also where you can buy items to decorate a dorm room! You can also purchase these textbooks from any bookcase, they are going to cost you §700 though!

If you really want that A in a class with a final exam, you should study at least twice for it whenever you have a chance.

Getting Your Grades

Once you’ve attend your last day of classes and finally finished all of your coursework, your sim will be given their final grades after a few hours. Hopefully, these grades will be filled with A’s since you’ve now learned how to get an a in University!

Final Thoughts

If you have any other questions about how to get an a in university in the sims 4, let me know in the comments and I’ll be sure to add it to the article!

I've been playing the Sims since the first game was released when I was only 5 years old. It's been a huge passion of mine for two decades and I've loved every single minute of it. I also love dogs. And grilled cheese sandwiches. And I think me and Bob Pancakes could be friends.

is there an ideal mood for taking a final exam? thanks

My sims always seem to do well when they are focused

Do you know if it matters at what point in the “term” you submit the paper or present the presentation? like do you get a better grade the quicker you do it or the closer you do it to the end of the class (like when you have the most knowledge from the class)?

I honestly have no idea, I just always make sure it’s excellent or outstanding quality before submitting but have never paid attention to the timing

I wondered about this too, but found out it doesn’t matter how early you submit it. Now I try and submit mine all before term starts!

My Sim maxed her Charisma and Logis skills while at High School and she just started her first term in uni and her research and debate skill is at 8. Will this affect her negatively in getting good grades? I ensured she worked hard at High School so that she could get into a distinguished program. But will her maxed out skill levels now be an issue.

No, it will not be an issue. It makes it easier to get excellent-quality papers if the skills you have maxed out are needed for the course.

University Related Activities

Young adults and older Sims have the option to enroll in either Foxbury Institute or The University of Britechester. If players own High School Years and have a Sim who graduated from high school early, they can also apply for universities as a Teen. Both institutions offer different academic focuses, meaning that they have differences in distinguished degrees, so players must choose wisely to ensure their Sims are on the right track for their desired career path. Enrolling in the University is quite simple and can be done via computer. Sims can apply for grants, and the outcome of the application and university acceptance notifications both arrive within a couple of days.

Once enrolled, players must attend classes and complete assignments to advance through their chosen academic program. Classes usually require homework to be done, as well as a term paper, a presentation, and exams at the end of the term. Completing assignments and attending classes successfully will help players increase their Sims' skills and academic performance. Sims can also participate in extracurricular activities, such as organizations and after-school activities, to further enhance their university experience and develop new skills.

The main aspect of this pack is the ability to earn degrees. There are a total of 13 different degrees that can be pursued by Sims at either The University of Britechester or Foxbury Institute. Each campus has a specialty in specific majors, referred to as "distinguished degrees". Normal degrees are open to all Sims, however, distinguished degrees have specific skill requirements for enrollment. Having a diploma from a Distinguished Degree will further boost the Sim when selecting a career , and they will be able to start from a higher promotion level than before. Generally, The University of Britechester specializes in distinguished degrees that focus on what would be considered more art-focused and academic:

  • Art History
  • Communications
  • Culinary Arts
  • Language and Literature

Foxbury Institute on the other hand is known for its modern style and distinguished degrees that are closer to more analytic and hands-on degrees:

  • Computer Science

Sims are allowed to enroll in up to four classes per semester for each degree. If they choose to take fewer than three classes, they have the option to take an elective class that focuses on a skill not covered in their degree program. Sims who have already reached the maximum level of their major-specific skills can benefit from taking elective courses in order to gain additional skills. In order to receive a degree, Sims are required to complete 12 courses, regardless of whether they are elective or main courses. Generally, it will take three semesters – each roughly one sim week long – for Sims to graduate. Once a semester is finished, the game will prompt them to enroll for the next semester, however, Sims are also allowed to take breaks in between. Each full-time career the game offers is linked to at least one specific degree. However, it is important to note that not all branches within a career are eligible to benefit from the same degree, and some branches simply do not benefit from any university degree.

Britechester

The Sims 4: Discover University Expansion Pack features both of the two college campuses as the focal point of the university experience, within the new world called Britechester which has thirteen lots for Sims to explore. Inspired by iconic universities, Foxbury Institute is a combination of the features and architecture of Stanford University in California and MIT in Massachusetts. Similarly, the University of Britechester resembles the prestigious Oxford University in England, capturing its essence and incorporating its classic design. These two colleges provide players with a unique and authentic university experience, offering the opportunity to explore different academic environments and cultures.

In Britechester, Sims can participate in a variety of activities, both on and off campus. They can attend classes and study for exams, interact with other students and faculty, explore the city, and engage in fun leisure activities. Players can visit the university campus areas for both universities, which primarily include the dormitories and common areas where campus-specific activities take place. Additionally, there are several lots such as a bar and library that Sims can visit. For Sims who are not interested in living in dormitories but still would like to live in Britechester, there are 3 residential lots.

New Careers

The Sims 4: Discover University Expansion Pack is designed to provide players with a comprehensive university experience that encompasses education and career opportunities. In line with this theme, the pack introduces three new full-time careers - Law, Education, and Engineering. While they are not different from many other full-time careers in terms of gameplay concept, with their specific branches, these careers offer unique paths for Sims to follow, each with its own set of daily tasks, rewards, and requirements.

The Law career is one of the new careers introduced in the expansion pack. It is a full-time career that offers Sims the opportunity to work in the legal field The Law career is split into two branches: the Judge branch and the Private Attorney branch. As this career is not an active career, however, there are not many difficult tasks.

The Judge branch requires high Logic as well as Research and Debate skills, as daily tasks include making rulings. While this career may be considered quite mundane, the rewards for this branch include high pay and various objects, and some exclusive interactions.

The Private Attorney branch involves working as a private attorney and offers a different experience with a focus on social interactions and charisma. The daily tasks include getting new clients and providing legal representation. To get promotions in the Private Attorney branch, Sims need to improve their Charisma and Research and Debate skills. This branch provides a more social experience, making it appealing to players who enjoy engaging with others.

Education Career

The Education Career is a notable addition to The Sims 4 Discover University expansion pack. It offers players the opportunity to experience the life of an educator, with two distinct branches to choose from - Administrative and Professor. This career requires a significant investment in Research and Debate skill, as it is the primary Skill required for promotion in both branches. Similarly to the Law career, the choice between the two branches should depend on whether they prefer Charisma or Logic skill, as the salary and the rewards are rather similar.

The Professor branch requires mastery of Logic and also Research and Debate skills. Although this career path may appear to be routine, it offers substantial rewards. The primary focus of this branch is on imparting knowledge and advancing as a tenured professor. Professors have the ability to enhance their logic by "Plan Lecture" interaction on the computer and giving "Prepared to Teach" moodlet. The Daily Tasks in this branch typically involve writing scholarly papers.

The Administrative branch of the Education Career places an emphasis on Charisma, as well as Research and Debate skills, distinguishing it from the Professor branch. As a work-from-home career, much of an Administrator's tasks will involve utilizing the computer to perform functions such as reviewing budget proposals, planning agendas, and writing recommendation letters. Interactions such as planning an agenda and creating a lesson plan boost confidence and logic, respectively, while several other computer-based tasks increase Research and Debate skills.

Engineer Career

Engineering stands out as a career that offers more functional rewards to those who pursue it than the other two included in the pack. Engineer Career branches into two paths - Computer Engineer and Mechanical Engineer. This career is distinct in that it focuses on the Robotics skill, setting it apart from the Law and Education careers which emphasize the Research and Debate skill.

As a Computer Engineer, Sims will hone their skills in Programming Skill and have the opportunity to craft the reward of Computer Glasses. These glasses provide Sims with the convenience of performing minor computing tasks at any time, anywhere. They also offer the ability to scan other Sims' moods, traits, and emotions. The Computer Glasses can also enhance emotional manipulation abilities, allowing Sims to get a specific moodlet, such as being Focused with more convenience.

The Mechanical Engineering branch offers two functional rewards for Sims who reach levels 8 and 9 respectively. First, Sims will receive the ExoMech Suit which grants the Bionic Body buff, providing a boost to Fitness and Handiness skills. However, this may not be the best choice for those who want to use the Mechanical Arm Cybernetics that the Robotics skill unlocks, as the ExoMech Suit prevents the use of this object. Secondly, Sims will receive the ExoMech Helmet, which provides a permanent Focused boost and hidden bonuses to Logic and Robotics skills when used.

New Afterschool Activities

Discover University introduces two new after-school activities for Sims to pursue - E-Sport Competitor and Soccer Team Player. Both of these activities are university student-exclusive after-school activities that can be joined via phone, computer, or the career tab, and via UBrite Arena.

E-sports Competitor requires Video Gaming and Charisma skills. Sims can receive a grant to become an E-sports competitor and be automatically enrolled in the activity, or they risk losing the grant. Although after-school activities are not typically paid, this activity offers the opportunity to earn money through tournament winnings. Sims can also participate in the activity from the comfort of their own home as long as it is not on a tournament day. Sims who reach the highest level, Level 4, in the E-Sport Competitor will receive a career boost in the Tech Guru career, allowing them to start at Level 5.

Being a Soccer Team Player is more challenging, as it requires both Fitness and Logic skills, as well as building relationships with teammates. To reach the top, Sims must be successful in winning soccer games, which requires them to study plays and read the playbook. Upon reaching Level 4 as a Soccer Team Player, Sims will receive a career boost and have the opportunity to start as a Professional Athlete in the Athlete career path.

Discover University brings back the beloved roommate feature, further immersing players in the college life experience. Sims can automatically fill university housing with roommates, as long as there are enough beds available, or they can choose to rent out their homes or apartments to roommates by placing an ad on their computer or phone. This can be done in any world, regardless of whether the Sim is a university student or not, with roommates sharing a portion of the rent. A total of ten Sims can reside on a single lot, including both the playable household and the roommates.

Potential roommates will visit the lot randomly throughout the day or the following day if the ad was placed at night. Sims can interact with them and choose to accept or reject them as roommates. Once all the beds are filled, the ad will be taken down automatically, but it can also be removed manually. Each roommate is assigned a hidden "archetype" that influences their behavior. Playable Sims can reprimand their roommates for any inappropriate behavior and can dismiss them at any time.

Roommates are uncontrolled NPCs that will take care of their own needs without player intervention, making them a great addition for players who enjoy controlling one Sim while still having multiple Sims in the household. When the playable household visits a community lot, roommates might occasionally tag along. In general, they will leave the lot at various times throughout the day for work or visit other lots.

Student Organizations in The Sims 4: Discover University offer Sims a variety of ways to get involved in college life and make new friends. These pre-made social groups allow Sims to join and participate in various events and activities hosted by the organization. Each organization is unique, with its own set of purposes and events. Joining an organization is easy, simply by speaking with one of its members during the next event they are hosting.

There are six public organizations that Sims can enroll in, which cater to different interests such as art, academics, and robotics. Three of these are for the Foxbury Institute, namely, The Brainiacs, Bot Savants, and Foxbury Spirit Squad. The other three offered by the University of Britechester are the Art Society, The Debate Guild, and Britechester Spirit Corps. These organizations allow Sims to participate in events and meet up with members, which is perfect for making new friends.

In addition to the public organizations, there is also a hidden seventh organization known as the Secret Society. This exclusive organization is shrouded in mystery and requires a special invitation to join, which requires some steps. It offers Sims the chance to participate in exclusive events and gain special rewards based on their ranking in the organization.

Research & Debate Skill

Rewritten: Research & Debate is a comprehensive skill that maxes out at level 10 and focuses on acquiring information and using it in debates or to influence others. It is straightforward to learn and can be honed using the Research Archive Machine for researching various topics and practicing debates in front of a mirror. Pursuing this skill is highly recommended, as many university degrees demand a high proficiency in Research & Debate, making it easier and more efficient to complete coursework.

Even without enrolling in university, this skill can be extremely useful. As Sims advance through the levels, they will be able to convince others to perform actions such as cleaning, cooking, or even getting a raise from their boss. Additionally, their reading speed will improve, and they'll earn more skill points from reading books. Sims can also earn some Simoleons through this skill by contributing to knowledge on research machines, and participating in professional debates or commentaries at the debate podium, which can also result in fame if players own The Sims 4: Get Famous.

Robotics Skill

The Robotics skill is the other new skill in this expansion, enabling players to create and operate robots and other handy mechanical devices, including the beloved Servo. This skill has a maximum level of 10 and as it grows, more objects become craftable.

Sims who are eager to build and innovate can improve their Robotics skill by reading a book or the Robotics Workstation, though it may be an initial investment. However, it's a worthwhile investment as Sims can sell their creations for a profit. Players should be cautious as the skill comes with its dangers, such as the risk of electrical shock, which can even result in death. Getting shocked by the machine will result in the dazed moodlet, but continued use without caution can lead to a fatal outcome.

Servo is a unique life state in The Sims 4 that can be created using the Robotics skill. This bot acts as a helpful household member, capable of performing tasks such as cleaning, cooking, and repairing objects, much like a butler. Players can customize Servo's appearance and personality traits, including assigning a name and gender, to match their preferences. The behavior module enhancements allow players to instruct Servo to perform specific tasks, and Sims can also interact with the bot to build a relationship.

It's important to note that Servo has its own unique needs, including Fun, Social, Durability, and Charge. While the Fun and Social needs work similarly to normal Sims, Durability, and Charge are unique to Servo. Charge acts similarly to Energy and is gained through similar actions. Servos also require regular tune-ups to maintain their durability and prevent breakdowns. Servos that have reached a level 3 enhancement or higher have the ability to perform self-tuning. Despite its limitations, Servo adds a new level of immersion and gameplay to The Sims 4 and is a valuable addition to any household. Technology and automation enthusiasts will particularly enjoy creating and managing their very own Servo.

Academic Aspiration

The Academic Aspiration in The Sims 4: Discover University expansion pack offers players the opportunity to guide their Sim towards a life focused on education. This aspiration is focused on gaining new knowledge, excelling academically, and experiencing all that university life has to offer. The aspiration is divided into several steps, each with a unique objective to achieve. These steps require a high Research and Debate skill and involve enrolling in university, earning good grades, graduating, and more. While it is a time-consuming aspiration, with a minimum graduation time of 3 Sim weeks, it can also be highly rewarding for making more money.

The Higher Education Reward Trait is a valuable asset for Sims who want to earn more money from academic tasks, both after graduation and while pursuing additional degrees. This trait helps your Sim maximize their earnings from writing papers and contributing knowledge, making it a great source of additional income to complement their regular career.

New Lot Traits And Lot Assignments

The Sims 4: Discover University expansion pack introduces two new lot traits, Study Spot and University Hangout. Study Spot is a highly recommended lot trait that benefits not only university students but also helps Sims of all ages with their homework and enhances skill gains. University Hangout is designed specifically for university students and provides opportunities for unique interactions with other students.

Additionally, this expansion pack brings three new lot assignments, including Foxbury Commons, UBrite Commons, and University Housing. The commons are designated as gathering places for the two universities in Britechester and come pre-made in the world. However, players can also build them in any non-vacation world. Each lot assignment has specific requirements, such as study and hangout spots, cafeteria items, and additional unique needs that align with their primary focus. University housing offers players the possibility to construct new dormitories. Despite the fact that Sims will attend exams or classes at Britechester through a rabbit hole system, it is still possible to establish a remote campus for both schools in a different world.

New CAS And Build/Buy Items

The Sims 4: Discover University offers a vast collection of CAS items that primarily cater to the young adult demographic, offering a wide range of clothing, hair, and accessory options for a variety of styles. From casual everyday wear to formal academic attire, players will have plenty of options to choose from to help their Sims express their unique personalities and fit in with their peers. There are also Facial piercings as accessories and new minimalist tattoos.

The pack also features an extensive list of new Build/Buy items that can help players create functional and stylish university dorms and houses. With a focus on student life and academic settings, players will find a wide range of desks, chairs, bookcases, and other furniture items designed to help their Sims study and pursue their academic interests. Additionally, players can also find a variety of new decorative items such as posters, rugs, and more to make their Sims' living spaces truly their own.

The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S

To apply for university, have your Sim use a computer and select "University", then click "Apply to Universities". Your Sim will then apply for a place at both University of Britechester and the Foxbury Institute.

Your Sim will get an acceptance letter after one or two in-game days. This letter will inform you of which course places your Sim can take up. Your application status can also be checked via the computer.

Once you've had confirmation of a university place, you can enrol in the university of your choice via the computer, mailbox, or your cell/mobile phone.

Since there are two universities, your Sim will want to go to the right university for their skills and aspirations. Distinguished degrees get you an even bigger boost to your Sim's career. The University of Britechester tends to offer distinguished degrees for arts and humanities subjects, while the Foxbury Institute offers distinguished degrees for the sciences.

To gain acceptance into distinguished degrees, your Sim will need to have high skills levels related to the distinguished degree course. For example, acceptance into the distinguished Art History degree at the University of Britechester is more likely if your Sim has higher charisma, painting, and writing skills.

Below are two tables that show what courses the universities offer, as well as the organisations that can be found within each one.

The Sims 4 university guide

By sending your Sim to university, you'll likely want them to achieve the highest grades and get a good degree. Degrees can help give your Sim a big boost in the career of their choice. The rest of this guide will be focused on what you need to do to get good grades.

This might seem like a rather arbitrary decision to make, but choosing whether or not to live with other Sims on campus or living on your Sim's own can make all the difference between graduating with distinction or flunking their class entirely.

Living on their own is a good option for your Sims. They won't be distracted by messy roommates, and will have access to everything at any time they want. There's also the fact that you won't need to waste time travelling to the University Commons to get food, and the fact you can designate your Sim's home with the Study Spot lot trait to help your Sims do better in class. It's not impossible for your Sims to ace their tests in shared accommodation, but it is significantly harder to juggle a social life and intense studying.

However, there are some advantages to living on campus. You can arrive to class early, ensuring that a late mark doesn't affect your grade. Living on campus is particularly useful if you're trying to get the Academic aspirations, as being on campus to attend guest lectures and using the research archive machine can help greatly.

A decent compromise might be to put your Sims into smaller residential units for the two universities: namely Maritime Manor for Foxbury Institute or Darkwing House for the University of Britechester. This option is sort of the best of both worlds. You'll have a computer and a kitchen on-site, as well as a reduced likelihood of sharing space with a messy Sim. But the main advantage is that you're still on campus, so you  should be able to attend class early.

As Jack Torrance in The Shining wrote repeatedly on his typewriter: all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Working your Sims too hard can burn them out, so you need to strike a good balance of courses and other activities.

For every semester, your Sim has the option to take a maximum of four classes. They can either take up to four core classes, or a mixture of up to three core classes and an elective. You can choose to take fewer classes in a semester, but your Sim will stay in university for a longer time before graduating.

If you want to strike a good balance between classes , I highly recommending sticking to two core classes and a single elective: a total of three classes per semester. However, this will take 20 in-game days, or four whole terms - your Sim's entire young adulthood period - to complete. You can graduate as an adult, or you can use the relevant  The Sims 4 cheats , or the Potion of Youth aspiration reward to slow down the ageing process until you graduate.

All these classes count towards your Sim's degree, but electives give your Sim a chance to learn a skill that's unrelated to the subject of their degree.

Put simply, your Sim must attend every single class to get straight A's. Your Sim must also be punctual, arriving on time for every class. One of the few advantages to living on campus is that Sims can get to class early. They'll stand outside the lecture rooms holding their notebooks and may even use that time to finish their homework.

The other thing that will affect your Sim's grades is their current mood. Try to ensure that they're not distracted, or even in a bad mood. If they need a quick boost to their emotions, have them pack snacks or grab a snack from the coffee cart between classes.

When in classes, your Sim has multiple options. I highly recommend that you should choose to either  actively listen or  take notes if you want a high grade. This does have the side effect of reducing your Sim's fun need at a faster rate than if you  attend class normally .

Your Sim does have other options such as sleeping in class, leaving early, or chatting with students , but this can hurt your Sim's grades.

After enrolling into university, your Sim will get a homework book that they'll stash in their inventory. This little book is a key item to getting high grades.

Your Sim will be set homework to be handed in to every class session your Sim attends. This includes homework set before the first classes of term, so your Sim will have homework from the moment you enrol.

Increasing your Sim's  Research and Debate skill helps them finish their homework quickly, so if you have a spare moment, try to spend some time increasing this skill. Learn more about them in our  The Sims 4 skills guide.

The Sims 4 university guide

Completing coursework

Throughout each term, your Sim will also need to complete coursework. These come in three varieties:

I cannot stress enough the value of getting your term papers and presentations done before each new term starts. By doing this, you'll have some free time to spend on boosting your Sim's fun meter, since actively listening or taking notes during lectures will reduce the fun meter harshly. Your Sim will also have more time to dedicate to extra studying through the computer.

After completing the last day of classes and finishing your assignments for each term, your Sim will be shown their final grade for that term after a few hours.

How to prepare presentations

When a term starts, you may find a presentation in your Sim's inventory. This is an empty green board that needs to be completed before submitting. To work on it, simply drag the item out of your Sim's inventory and place it on their lot.

The first step is to complete all the information on the board. Once this is done, you'll want to organise the board and refine the information to create a better quality presentation. If your Sim can call upon other Sims to get feedback, they can help refine it further.

After this is complete, make sure you practice your presentation at least once. You can practice it more times to increase your charisma skill, but it only needs to be done once to get the top grade.

Once you're satisfied that you've done all you can to make the presentation a great one, you'll need to present it. Your presentation can only take place between 8am and 4pm on weekdays . You must also present it before the final day of classes for that term. Click on the project, either where you placed it or in your inventory, and select "Give Presentation" to present it. It'll take two in-game hours to finish giving your presentation.

How to write term papers

All your Sim needs to write a term paper is a computer. Term papers can be written from the start of term.

To have your Sim write their paper, go to any computer and under the University tab, you'll find the Coursework section. Your Sim will then spend a few hours writing the paper, though it can be done in more than one sitting. Don't be tempted to submit a plagiarised term paper as you won't get the top grades for it. There is also a risk of getting caught and suspended for doing so.

Once your Sim has written the first draft of the paper, keep editing the term paper until you get a notification to say that you won't be able to make the paper any better. You could keep editing the paper to improve your knowledge, but this is a waste of valuable time.

You can then safely submit your paper. If you want to see how good it is while you work on it, hover your mouse over the submit button. You'll see a word that indicates the quality of the paper: poor, normal, or excellent. If it's excellent, submit that paper!

Much like homework, a high research and debate skill helps your Sim finish their term paper quickly. A good tip here is to plan ahead and have your Sims as teens work on the research and debate skill as they go through school. This  can be done cheaply in the home by practising debate in the mirror, which is good because you don’t have to buy an expensive and space consuming debating podium.

How to study for final exams

If your Sim's assignment for the term is to take the final exam, your Sim needs to study all term  if you want the top grades. You'll want to study at least twice in each class that has a final exam. There are a few ways to study for an exam:

  • The first is to use your computer. In the University section, select "University Coursework", then select "Study".
  • Your Sim can also study using the university's research machines in either the university library or in the commons. Select the "study for..." option.
  • Finally, your Sim can purchase textbooks from any bookcase or from the kiosks in the quad at the university. Each one costs §700.

When you have multiple final exams coming up, you may need to prioritise which modules you want your Sims to study for. They can email professors about their progress on each module, finding out which ones they're doing better or worse in. There’s no point doing this too early in a term, as the professors will say that it’s too early to tell.

The Sims 4: Discover University - Research & Debate Skill Guide

Get better at Research & Debate and you can argue with others about your Sims' most passionate subjects.

Quick Links

Research & debate skill overview, every level of the research & debate skill.

With the Research & Debate skill added in The Sims 4: Discover University expansion pack, now, your Sims can learn a little bit more about learning – and how to be more effective at it. As your Sims level up in the Research & Debate skill, they’ll become quicker at finishing homework, more effective at studying, and more.

Sims 4 Discover University: Passing Your Degree Without Passing Out

Spend some time at the Research Machine on either of the university campuses or Practicing Debate in the mirror at your dorm to begin building the machine. By the final level, you can persuade Sims, earn some extra cash, and so much more.

Made available in The Sims 4: Discover University expansion , the Research & Debate skill teaches your Sim persuasive communication methods .

How you choose to use these new skills is up to you - you can manage NPC Sims (which is massively beneficial when living with roommate Sims), coerce others to complete tasks on your behalf like your homework or your dinner, or even to perform assorted social interactions .

To get started with learning the Research & Debate skill, your Sim can either Practice Debate in any mirror , use a Research Machines to pursue the skill, or practice at any podium .

It'll primarily be built at the University of Britechester , as this university offers all four degrees related to the Research & Debate skill, which are Economics , History, Language and Literature, and Psychology .

You don't strictly need to attend the University of Britechester to build the Research & Debate skill, as the Foxbury campus has Research Machines in their Commons building, too.

However, the University of Britechester is home to the Debate Guild, while the Foxbury Institute doesn't have a comparable club that helps your Sim gain the skill at the same time as socializing.

In fact, you technically don't even need to be a university student to pursue the Research & Debate skill - the skill is available for any Sims Teen and up.

Joining The University Of Britechester Debate Guild

Those Sims who hope to build their debate skills on-campus should look into the Debate Guild at the University of Britechester .

Meeting a few times a week, the Debate Guild is only open to University of Britechester students and is a great way for your Sim to continue sharpening their skill and making some friends on-campus while they do.

To join the Guild, you'll need to attend an event of theirs, of which there are several throughout the week.

While you're there, speak to any member of the Debate Guild and ask them to join. From there, like other Organizations, you'll rank up by participating in assorted Organization activities.

At Rank Three of the Debate Guild, you'll unlock a few sweet perks, like:

  • Convincing Professors to Increase Grade to boost your Sim's performance in a class.
  • A new Research Archive Machine .
  • Your Sim can give homework help and study tips to others.
  • The Debate Guild unlocks a cool new Guild jacket .

In all, the Debate Guild is a good way for your Research & Debate Sims to meet new folks around campus and socialize a bit more casually with their peers from the Guild.

Use The Research Machine To Build Other Skills, Too

If your Sim has access to the Electromagnetic Research Archive Machine

These machines can be found in the Commons buildings on both University campuses, and accessed for free while on that lot.

If your Sim has the cash to spend, you can also buy an Electromagnetic Research Archive Machine for your home lot, but it costs §12,000 .

But not only can you build the Research & Debate skill on the machine, but you can also use them to research other skills , too.

Once your Sim has reached Level Six of the Research & Debate skill, they can begin to Contribute Knowledge on the Research Machine with any skill they've mastered.

Doing so builds fame , if you're also playing with Get Famous.

Just be careful not to over-contribute, lest your Sim overexert themselves a bit too hard ...

How To Make Money With The Research & Debate Skill

Once your Sim has fully leveled their Research & Debate skill in The Sims 4: Discover University, they'll have a few options to earn Simoleons using what they learned.

Using the podiums , your Sim is able to either give professional commentary on any subject in which they're well-versed or have professional debates with another Sim for some cash.

Doing so will also offer your Sim some Fame, if you're also using the Get Famous expansion .

This is only available at Level Ten of the Research & Debate skill - your Sim needs to know what they're talking about and how to present a case if they've got any hope of winning!

Additionally, once they've mastered another skill , your Sim will be able to write research papers on any computer about skills in which they're particularly experienced.

These sell for different prices , depending on the quality, but either way, completing one will net your Sim a few Simoleons automatically upon completion .

Helpful Traits, Aspirations, And Other Skills

With the ideal mood for building the Research & Debate skill in The Sims 4: Discover University is Focused , you may want to consider the Genius trait for your Sim.

These smartypants Sims will find themselves naturally feeling Focused throughout the day, which can help them more effectively build the Research & Debate skill.

Since you'll be dealing a lot with other Sims to put your skills to good use, the Outgoing trait can help offer additional mood boosts for the amount of socializing you'll be doing.

And when it comes to aspirations, you can double down on your Satisfaction Point earnings by pursuing the Academic aspiration , also introduced with Discover University.

As part of the aspiration , you'll need to reach Level Seven in the Research & Debate skill, among other things, so the most avid students ought to consider taking it on.

The Sims 4: How To Join The Secret Society

In the table below, we've kept track of everything that unlock at each level of the Research & Debate skill.

The majority of your unlocks are passive boosts to things like reading and studying time, paper and presentation speediness, and more.

Outside of these passive boosts, you'll also receive a number of social actions wherein your Sim can convince other to perform different tasks .

What Unlocks At Every Level Of The Research & Debate Skill In The Sims 4: University

The only thing that unlocks at the first level of the Research & Debate skill is a notification that tells you about using the Research Archive Machine, which you may not have been using when you first developed the skill.

How to Give a Presentation in The Sims 4 Discover University

Keep an eye on the time!

sims 4 university presentation quality

In The Sims 4: Discover University, you’ll find various coursework types that propel your student sim to success in their classes. While some may ask you to prepare term papers, others will ask you to give presentations or take exams. This may sound simple at first, but there is some important information to note before moving further into the school year. If you’re interested in learning more, continue reading to discover how to give a presentation in The Sims 4: Discover University.

Before you can give a presentation, you’ll have to make one! To do this, head into your character’s inventory and look for the presentation board. When you’re ready to begin working on it, place it anywhere in the world and select the board to find “Capture Information”. Click on this to start creating your presentation.

Once you make the presentation and select the board again, you’ll immediately find multiple options:

  • Ask for Feedback
  • Refine and Organize
  • Practice Presenting
  • Give Final Presentation
  • Put in Inventory

Typically, your presentation will start at a low quality. While you can still present it, your grades will be as high if you refine and organize it. Make sure to do this before giving your presentation if you want to maximize your chances of getting an A grade.

Related: How to Write a Term Paper in The Sims 4 Discover University

When ready, click “ Give Final Presentation ” to head towards the appropriate university building. Your character will bring the presentation board with them and perform over the span of 1-2 hours. Make sure you do this between 8 am-4:30 pm on a weekday, or else you won’t be able to give the presentation.

Once you complete this task, you’ll finish the course’s primary objective. Just make sure to keep an eye on your homework and attend class to maintain high grades.

The Sims 4 is available on PC, Mac, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 through the official website . If you’d like to learn more about the game, check out How to Drop Out of University and How to Find Lost Homework in The Sims 4 .

The Sims 4 Discover University

Degrees, scholarships list and applying for college.

A College Graduate has finished his degree at Foxbury in The Sims 4 Discover University Cheats

Want to graduate in a Destinguished Degree with Honors? Let's learn how you do that in this guide to Discover University!

Applying for school can be a real nail-biter as you wait on an acceptance letter. In The Sims 4 Discover University, you'll have to do the same. Your Sim's achievements up until that point will be judged, and if worthy you can be accepted for scholarships and distinguished degree programs at either University of Britechester of Foxbury Institute. This guide's goal is to help you maximize your chances of a distinguished degree and perhaps get you a scholarship as well. I have a full list of scholarships on the page below, then the degrees. Let's learn about getting into school.

This section of the site has a total 13 extra pages linked below for detailed information on the various degrees and what you get for a distinguished degree vs a regular one, and the extra promotions that come with a BA or BS with Honors. You can also try to find scholarships that have skills that benefit your degree.

Distinguished Degrees and Honors

Enrolling into school with both distinguished and regular degrees in The Sims 4 Discover University Cheats

See the degrees listed out here. Note the silver and gold on the degrees. Silver is a regular degree, gold a distinguished one. They don't seem to be harder, it's just harder to get in. You can take between 1 and 4 University classes. Taking four will help you graduate from college quickly but it's more time-management intense.

Each of the two schools - Britechester and Foxbury - specialize in one area. Britechester is a school for the arts, while Foxbury Institute is more for science and technology. They both offer the same degrees, but Britechester's arts program is distinguished while Foxbury's is not, and the same goes for science on Foxbury's end. Distinguished degrees yield better bonuses.

When you apply for school, you may be accepted into a few different distinguished degrees but not the one you want. In that case, you can take a regular degree from the other school. Worry not if you just can't get into the program you want - a regular degree that you worked hard on can be great because you can also graduate 'with Honors'.

Getting career benefits for a degree with honors in The Sims 4 Discover University Cheats

You can see the new Law Career's Judge track unlocked here. I could still start on the bottom as a law clerk, but I have the option to jump straight to judge because of a degree I cheated in.

With Honors means you were basically an honor-roll or Dean's list student with a high GPA. You need a greater than 3.9 GPA to graduate With Honors. Doing this actually is about as good as a distinguished degree, but of course it's entirely possible to get a distinguished degree with honors which is the absolute best you can achieve from University in The Sims 4.

Preparing for School

If you want better scholarships or to be accepted for distinguished degrees, you should do some work ahead. If you have a High School "A" student on your hands, they already have a slight advantage. You can take that a bit further by improving their skill levels a touch before they apply . What's more, you can save some time by only going so far in each skill. Having a little of several is faster than maxing one due to the nature of skill experience in The Sims 4. Use the guides below before you apply, and you'll

Getting Scholarships

There are a number of scholarships available - those based on where you live, based on how much money your Sim's family has, and more scholarships based on other accomplishments like participating in Scouts (Seasons). Some of these aren't particularly easy to obtain, but you should know that Skill-based Scholarships also exist. In general, it'd appear you need at least level 3 in order for them to appear in the list. While level 4 will help you get a better multiplier for a distinguished degree, it takes level 5 to get better odds (over level 3) for a scholarship. So, you can go for level 3 in skills related to your actual degree based on info you learn here. This will give you at least 1-2 opportunities for skill-based scholarships and improve the odds of getting into distinguished degree programs.

Even though you've already applied for a Scholarship, you should know that you can apply for more. Apply for every one you see, as far as I can tell, unless you know you'll gain more skill levels before enrolling in University . Scholarship cooldowns are likely one week like the application process itself.

Discover University Scholarships List!

By popular demand, I've made a list of all the scholarships in Discover University. There are quite a number. I'm going to lump some together that are very similar. The requirements listed here are to be eligible to apply, and does not mean you will be accepted.

  • Location-Based - Live in any of the worlds from Willow Creek to Forgotten Hollow. You can't do anything to improve your odds, but they're worth a shot.
  • Education for All - Needs Based($400) - It appears you need to have less than $25k in property value and less than $2500 cash on hand.
  • Helping Hand - Needs Based ($250) - It would appear you need 10-15,000 in cash and to have a property value between 80k and 100k.
  • Merit-Based ($500) - Sims who are accepted for a Distinguished Degree can apply for this, so do it after you've applied and got in. You likely only need one more other scholarship to get a Full Ride.
  • Super Scout ($175) - You need to have been at least rank 2 in scouts and get a better chance with each level beyond that.
  • Workplace Scholar ($300) - If you've been rank 3 in a career, and I suppose this means part-time jobs as Teen, you can be eligible to apply.

Skill-Based Scholarships List

I separated these out, because they are a bit different. Like with Scouts, having a higher skill level will improve your chances. I wanted to list out the break points for them, as in where you'll get a better shot with each skill. Realize for multi-skill scholarships having multiple skills will increase your chances. However it may not be worth going for another level up in a skill if it doesn't reach the "break point". So you have the same odds at level 3 as you do at level 4, so I'll note where the skill boosts you next. You need a minimum skill level (the first number) in one listed skill to be able to apply and are not guaranteed a scholarship.

  • Alley Cat ($400) - Bowling Skill. Unlocks at Level 2, improves at 3, then 5 - this being our example, your odds would not improve with level 4. You'd need to hit 5 and at that point should have a 90% chance of success.
  • Athletics ($450) - Fitness Skill. Unlocks at Level 3. improves at 5 and 9.
  • Building the Future ($400) - Handiness and Rocket Science. Unlocks at Level 3 of either, improves with each at level 5 and level 9.
  • E-Sports ($450) - Video Gaming skill. Unlocks at level 3, improves at level 5 and 9.
  • Food and Drink ($200) - Cooking, Gourmet Cooking, Baking, and Mixology. Unlocks at level 3 of any, improves at level 5 and 9
  • Friend of the Animals ($400) - Have Dog Training at level 2, improves at 3 and 5. Or/also have Veterinarian at level 3, improves at level 5 and 9.
  • Future Star ($200) - Guitar, Piano, Violin, DJ Mixing, Singing, Pipe Organ, Acting, or be in the Drama Club (at rank 2+). Unlocking Level 3 in any of the skills here will make you eligible, and like the others they are boosted at levels 5 and 9.
  • The Great Outdoors ($200) - Fishing, Gardening, Herbalism, Flower Arranging skills. Unlocks at level 3, improves at 5 and 9 like the others above.

There you go. If you manage to pay the entire cost of your schooling with scholarships, you get a 24-hour +2 Happy 'Full Ride" moodlet that says, "Having a fully paid tuition takes some weight off your shoulders!". I'll say. Good luck with those Scholarships! Now for applying to school!

Second Degrees and Onward

A few people have noted that after your first degree, you no longer need 12 credits. We initially thought this was tied to skills, but it's actually unrelated. Once you have a degree, any others you obtain will only take 8 credits each. This is perhaps simulating general education requirements and how there's no need to take those courses again when going for a second bachelor's degree.

Applying for School

Paying for school with student loans in The Sims 4 Discover University Cheats

You can use Student Loans to pay for University if you wish. A scholarship will typically cover a couple of classes but not all your housing cost if you choose to live in a dorm.

Use your Sim's mailbox to apply for University. When the letter comes back in a couple days, you can check to see if you which degrees you were approved for at each school. Remember to apply for the Merit-based scholarship if you get into a Distinguished Degree program!

Can someone PLEASE answer my question. The guide says Foxbury is for technology and Brichester is for the arts. But the Sims site and some let's plays I've seen is the opposite. I am much confusion.

Gravatar

they both have the same degrees. the difference is that one has distinguishable degrees for science and one for arts.

Gravatar

So basically Foxbury has every class but only the technology, science extra are distinguished degrees so Brichester has also all the degrees but it’s distinguished degrees are more English based so more old school.

Gravatar

How to make more than one sims into University

Gravatar

Haven't tried it yet but I think you just have all of them apply, then wait until they all get accepted, and have them all choose the same dorm or house.

Gravatar

Just enroll them all (game makes you do this one at a time) then place them into the exact same house or dorm and they will all become the one active household.

Gravatar

My Sim was not accepted in the course I wanted. Is there a way to change this?

Yes, use Carls guide to see what skills your sim needs and gain those then reapply.

Gravatar

So there is no associated major for the career branch of mixology? I initially thought it was a little weird that there wasn't an associated major for Athlete and eSports Gamer, but then realised you get the career boost from the eSports and Soccer teams... but nothing for mixologists, seems they're the only ones that miss out.

Gravatar

Not sure how I got it, but my sim have a "Mixologist Certification"

Upload

Mixology certificate comes from sitting in on 11 mixology skills classes when enrolled.

Gravatar

Why aren’t the degree cheats working for me? Testingcheats is enabled, but nothing happens when I enter the cheat

Not sure, maybe you are making typos? All the cheats are working for me.

Gravatar

Sometimes cheats are different on console, so what device are you using?

Gravatar

My Sim had a full ride into college plus made almost 2000 simoleons each time she signed up for a term. She had finished the Nerd Brain aspiration before applying (sometimes it's good to take things slow), had cooking and gourmet cooking maxed also. (She got scholarships for that too.) She got merit, Willow Creek one, Education for all (she lived in one of the lowly homes and didn't have much money.) Plus she had the skill scholarships. Not bad! They basically paid her to go to college. She attended Foxbury in the Physics program for Robotics. I also learned that if you max a skill and tutor someone at college, you make 100 simoleons a session. Not bad for a job on the weekend. I have season, long 28 day seasons - so I just had her do 2 courses at a time. She managed to get amazing grades, juggle a boyfriend and go out to festivals and tutor on the weekends. I would rather have my Sims take it slow and do well and have a life other than rushing to class and studying. I hope these bits can contribute to the guide or people's gameplay.

Gravatar

PLEASE HELP How to I increase my chances in getting a degree?

Click on the subjects in the guide

Boost your skills for the degree you want to go into if you get them above four you can do a distinguished degree in your choosing.

Gravatar

So I graduated with a distinguished language and literature degree with honors and yet I started on level 4 of the writer's career? Attended the ceremony, the degree is showing in my simology panel, but I don't get any of the benefits? Is this a common bug?

Gravatar

This is my same issue! I did all that work in college only to be at a level 4!! I need an explanation!

Did you enroll for the wrong branch? It is the Author branch where your Sims degree will get a huge boost.

Gravatar

I had the same issue with the engineering career (physics degree)… so frustrating, after completing degree with A+ GPA, she entered level three of the career (what she would have got because she already had an A grade in high school), and the aspiration requirement to get a job within your degree field was not fulfilled. plz help :(

You need to pick the correct branch of the career from the list - the one that gives the bonus for completing the corresponding career. It's not enough to just pick the career.

Gravatar

Yess! I had the same issue they both graduated with honors and started at level one! I hope it’s a bug

Gravatar

Playalot is correct - when you go to find a career keep scrolling past the career you think you should choose and you will see the 'advanced' career later down the list. For instance, I received a physics degree to be a mechanical engineer. When I was searching the list of careers available, engineer was near the top. However, if I continued to scroll, 'Mechanical Engineer" was a choice. When I clicked on it, the description of the career included red text that discussed having a degree. Hope this helps! :)

Gravatar

How do we withdraw our sims from the esports team? I got rid of the scholarship by not immediately enrolling in the next term, but she's still on the team. I've just stopped her going for now, but it's tedious. -_-

Is there an option to leave via the 'work panel' UI? Or perhaps on your Sims phone?

Gravatar

I suffered from the same problem, but it looks like you can leave the team by using the phone, go to the work tab, and "quit job."

I would be interested to know if dropping the team after receiving scholarship money has any consequences.

Gravatar

Sweet, thanks, I just posted basically the same question in the main DU section. The e-sports team is tremendously time consuming!

Gravatar

How to get Mixologist Certification without using this cheat? traits.equip_trait trait_University_BartenderDegree

Do 11 'Sit in on Skills' classes when enrolled at uni with your Sim and choose 'mixology'.

Gravatar

What if I have various permanent perks that increases my skill gain rate from different sources, and before I can complete 11 classes, I already maxed the skill? Will I be locked out from getting the certificate?

Gravatar

If you get the e-sports scholarship, you are forced to join the e-sports team to keep it. It's the same with fitness, you join the soccer team.

Gravatar

I started a second degree and only had to get 8 credits instead of 12. First degree was acting second degree culinary arts both at britechester I maxed out cooking before I started could this be why I already had 4 credits?

Yes if you max out the required skills you don’t have to take the first term. The first term is basically building you skills up but as you have maxed them all it’s just pushed you ahead.

No actually all second degrees only need 8 credits once a Sim has completed their first degree. So even if your sim had no cooking skill their second degree will still only need 8 credits.

Gravatar

Is there a way to reapply to a scholarship that you did not get into/receive? Whether by cheat, console command, etc?

Yes just reapply the same way again, there is a cool down of 7 sim days I believe which seems a bit ridiculous really.

There is info about the various scholarships here (click) but I don't know of any cheats for the actual scholarships themselves. tbh most of them are not worth much so really aren't worth waiting another 7 days, I'd just go off to uni and apply for scholarships for the second semester while at uni. Use the laptop, PC etc to reapply and the dorms mailbox.

Thank you so much! I will give that a try.

Gravatar

For the Location Scholarship, your sim has to live somewhere for a while. I would try with a one young adult household after a few days of gameplay and I got nothing. But I made a household with a teenager and when he aged up he got about 250. I think if your sim lives somewhere from childhood, you may get the whole thing.

Gravatar

I was accepted for many distinguished degrees for both campuses, but the distinguished degree merit scholarship isn't listed when applying for scholarships. Anyone else have this issue?

SCRATCH THAT! The merit scholarship is applied on the screen where your tuition total is added up, so you don't have to submit an application for it, you just have it. That would be good to note in this guide as I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere online yet.

Gravatar

Thank you for the detailed information!

Just one detail missing that I noticed, for the future star scholarship you didn't include Painting (I mean it's for all the artsy stuff so maybe it's obvious, but I thought I would mentioning since that's how my Sim got it ) I suspect writing may get it too.

Gravatar

I want to re-apply for the Fine Arts Degree (Distinguished). Turns out not just any instrument would do. (Guess I should have read the guide better!) Now I have 4 levels in Violin and Piano, with 7 in Guitar. I've been able to apply to a few more scholarships since, but can't re-apply after my initial application to University. I'd love to be re-considered, now that I think I'd have a good chance of getting into that degree.

Once you have enrolled for a degree you can't re-enroll for the same degree so the game basically thinks your Sim has done the degree but failed badly if you enrolled but failed to go.

You could save your Sim to your library, place them into a new game and try again that way, even then I'm not sure if it would work.

Gravatar

is it possible that the scholarship amounts have changed? I only got the expansion a few days ago and for the education for all I got 500 and for the merit one only 100.

Yes, of course, the amounts in the Guide are the 'most often possible amounts' but the game will certainly award your sim less money for less skills or other various conditions within the game.

Gravatar

Interesting situation I've found with my sim enrolled in Computer Science at Foxbury is that on his third term, he somehow has THREE merit-based scholarships (does each term stack?). That sounds pretty powerful if you manage to enroll onto distinguished degrees.

Gravatar

If you enroll two sims in opposite universities at the same time and in the same off campus household, can they both attend their graduation or does one just not get to have their ceremony and graduation unlockable? I've tried everything I can think of, but if I leave one university and send the other to theirs, it cancels out the first interaction and they never go through with the graduation. They enrolled 30 minutes apart and have their ceremonies 30 minutes apart, but they can't just go in without talking to every generated sim and their mother on the lot and get it over with.

tbh I don't know, I haven't play tested this scenario. I'd imagine that only one of the Sims will be able to attend their graduation ceremony though knowing how simple the game play is around this event. Even if your Sim does not go to a graduation ceremony they still graduate with a degree and the degree certificate, it just takes quite a few in-game hours for it all to happen. As in....really...quite a few in-game hours, it's painfully long and drawn out.

Gravatar

Does the biology degree help with a Vet career tract?

Gravatar

On each of your degree pages it shows you how to calculate your sims chances of getting into uni based on high school grade. What are your chances of getting into a distinguished course if your sims was made as an adult?

Just the same minus the High School bonus. I've had all my YA and Adult Sims get Distinguished Degrees and all were made as adults in CAS.

I just put 2 sims through the aspiration, and the third step was horrible. 5-hour tutoring sessions, and you have to do them 5 times!

I went looking to see if there was a mod for that, and found this: https://modthesims.info/d/636143/faster-tutor-class-in-discover-university.html

It comes in several versions, I installed the 2-hour flavor. It seems like that's long enough to be worthwhile for the pupil, and a much more reasonable demand on your time.

Thanks for the link, that part of the aspiration is so painful!

Gravatar

This page and the list of plants and when they're in season are by far the most helpful imo. At least for my own gameplay. Thanks a lot for taking the time and making them.

Gravatar

My Sim got her Merit scholarship with applying for it after she had been accepted to a Distinguished degree. I was applying for school and the option was already applied in the scholarship list.
