It was Kaziranga Game Sanctuary and again named Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary by a forest conservationist P.D. Stracey. This was done by him to reduce the hunting games in this wildlife sanctuary. Finally, in the year 1968 Assam National Park Act, 1968 was passed and the Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary was declared as a Kaziranga national park by the state of Assam. The government of Assam had also passed the Assam (Rhinoceros) bill that would impose a heavy penalty on anybody who is involved in hunting and poaching rhinoceros. Kaziranga National Park was officially accepted by the central government on 11th February in the year 1974 with an area of 430 square km. Moreover, this national park was also stated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is because of its natural sites and home to about two-thirds of the world’s one-horned rhinoceros.

The duration between November and February experiences the winter season. The maximum and minimum average temperature during this season is between 25- 5 degrees Centigrade. All the water bodies and water channels dry up during the winter months.

The region experiences monsoons from July-September months of the year. The southern region of the Kaziranga National Park gets submerged in the water during the monsoon season because of the rising levels of the River Brahmaputra. Kaziranga national park has a large population of wild buffaloes that accounts for more than 55% of its population in the world.

Kaziranga national park was hosting a large population of vultures at a time but the population was reduced because of the death of the birds by feeding the carcasses of the animals containing the drug diclofenac. Some of the species like the Indian vulture, slender-billed vulture and Indian white-rumped vulture, were less affected by the drugs and thus survived.

Blyth’s kingfisher, white-bellied heron, Dalmatian pelican, spot-billed pelican, Nordmann’s greenshank, and black-bellied tern are the major riverine birds inhabiting this national park region. Black-breasted parrotbill and rufous vented grass babbler are the names of the threatened species of birds found in this national park. The snake species like reticulated python, rock python, king cobra, Russel’s viper, common krait, and several species of reptiles are found in Kaziranga National Park.

Kaziranga national park is the national park situated in Golaghat district of Assam state in India. There are 166 national parks in India , and it is one of the most famous national parks of India. Kaziranga national park has one of the most numbers of rhinoceroses in India. It got declared as World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.

Kaziranga national park is one of the most beautiful national parks in the world. The governing body looking after the park is a government of Assam and government of India.

It has a total area of 430 square km, and that is why it is one of the largest national parks in India. The place is famous for a lot of rhinoceroses , and in 1904 the wife of then Viceroy visited the place, and she didn’t see rhinoceroses at that place. She asked her husband to take some preventive measures because the place got famous because of Rhinoceroses and she wanted to prevent the species from getting extinct. The climate of the national park is quite good as the national park sees three seasons, i.e., summer, winter, and monsoon.

Importance of Kaziranga National Park

The importance of Kaziranga national park is as below:

• Kaziranga national park has some of the animals which are not available anywhere in India , and that is why people come here from various countries to visit this special park.
• The national park is a house to lots of species which are not available in any other country.

Kaziranga National Park Essay 300 Words

Kaziranga national park is situated in the Golaghat and Nagaon district of Assam and is known to preserve the one-horned rhinoceros in its reserves. This national park comes under the world heritage site of UNESCO and contains two-third of the total population of rhinoceros. Kaziranga national park covers 430 sq km of area and is home to a variety of wildlife species including tigers, elephants, wild buffaloes, swamp deers and much more. Not only animals but this park houses a wide range of birds and is a great destination for the bird lovers.

Kaziranga has a huge list of vegetation and plants life and the plants are classified into three sections namely tropical evergreen forests, alluvial inundated grasslands and tropical semi-green forests. The park is chiefly recognized for its tall elephant grasses and swamplands. It also contains a rich variety of water hyacinths, lilies and lotus which makes the land purely majestic and beautiful.

The major population of wild water buffaloes and one-horned rhinoceros is located in this prestigious national park. In addition to this, the Bengal tigers, Asian elephants, buffaloes, rhinoceros, and swamp deers are some of the prominent wildlife of this park. It contains more than 30 mammals out of which 15 species are under endangered group. Some of the other wildlife includes white-browed gibbon, Indian gaur, Indian wild boar, barking deer, Bengal fox, Indian mongoose, Chinese badger, sloth bear, Assamese macaque, leaf monkey and much more.

So, one must visit such a renowned place that has a lot to exhibit and makes us realize the wonders of nature. It is best to visit this national park between November and April as it closes during the monsoon season due to safety and security of the people. Origin of Kaziranga National Park

The history of the origin of this magnificent national park dates back to 1904 when the wife of Lord Curzon, then Viceroy of India visited Kaziranga. It was known for Rhinoceros population and during her visit; there were no rhinos in sight. This made her think about the exploitation being done in order to expand tea cultivation and grazing. She asked her husband to look into this matter. This incident led to the formation of Kaziranga reserve in 1905. It had 232 sq kilometers if area initially which is expanding to this day. After much opposition against the proposal to extend this national park eastwards, the Kaziranga National park was given an additional land of 151 sq kilometers in 1908 and declared as a reserved forest.

Present day scenario of the Kaziranga National Park

Whilst hunting was strictly prohibited in the Kaziranga National Park premises, the law against the killing of Rhinos kept on hardening by enforcing high penalties and jail. In 1954 the Assam Government passed a Rhinoceros Bill to ensure the welfare of Rhinos. In 1968, The Assam government passed a law stating that Kaziranga is now a National Park.

After being declared as a National Park in 1985 the UNESCO declared it as a world heritage site for its unique natural habitat. It is not a surprise to say that Kaziranga is one of the world’s richest wildlife habitats which is home to thousands of animals and unique species of herbs and shrubs.

Introduction : Bio-diversity has always the core role in keeping our environment safe and useful. Forest wherein, we have a variety of flora and fauna is an integral part of biodiversity. So far as preservation of forest is concerned, we have protected areas like-wildlife sanctuary, bird sanctuary and national parks. In Assam, we have seven national parks at present. Kaziranga is the oldest national park in Assam.

Description : A national park can be described as a highly protected area under the control of a state or a nation in which wild lives including biotic or abiotic elements are preserved and protected in a methodical way. Kaziranga is designated as a National Park in 1974. 

A national park is a Prior to that it was designated as various names. In 1905, Kaziranga was declared as Proposed Reserve Forest. It was named Kaziranga Game Sanctuary in 1916. But the was inappropriate as animals were preserved there, so in 1950 it was renamed Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary by P.D. Stracey, the forest conservationist of that time. 

Kaziranga is chiefly famous for one horned rhinoceros, the pride of Assam. Kaziranga is gifted with a diversely found flora and fauna. They include; animals like- wild water buffaloes, India wild boar, sambar barking dear, hog deer, leopard, Indian grey mongoose, white browned gibbon; trees like Hoolong, Sal - and so on.

Kaziranga co-exists among the border areas of Golaghat, Karbi Anglong and Nagaon comprising an are af 382 square kilometers. The mighty Brahmaputra runs through the park. When flood occurs, silt falls upon and becomes the reason to have a massive grassland in Kaziranga. It is one of the largest tracts of protected land in the sub-Himalayan belt, and due to the presence of highly diverse and visible species, has been described as a Biodiversity Hotspot.

Keeping the view of bio-diversitical point of view, the UNESCO declared Kaziranga National Park a World Heritage Site in 1985. In 2006, it became a Tiger Reserve. It is one of the top most tourist spot in Assam. Tourists from inside and outside of India, always find a serine beauty as well as a phenomenal view of the flora and fauna

Conclusion : Although Kaziranga is world famous, there are many problems that it's habitants have to face. During the flood, due to lack of high lands many animals lost their lives. Moreover, lack of systematic animal corridors and over-bridges upon NH 715 (esrtwhile NH 37) cause a lot hampers to the wild lives. Introduction:

Kaziranga National Park is situated in Assam.

You know that it’s  a beautiful state located in the North-Eastern part of India.

Kaziranga National Park is situated mainly in Golaghat District and in Nagaon District of Assam.

It was established in the year 1908.

This National Park covers an area of 430 square kilometers.

It has a total of six  ranges (divisions)

As it is difficult to look after the animals in Upper Assam, therefore, recently, satellite phones have been given to the officials to ensure connectivity.

History of Kaziranga National Park:

KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK PROJECT

It is said that before the establishment of the Kaziranga National park, Mary Curzon, the wife of the Viceroy of India, visited the park.

She was desperate to see the one-horned rhinoceros but couldn’t find one.

Therefore, the Viceroy of India (her husband) took action to protect this special species of the rhinoceros by initiating plans for their protection.

Thereafter, many meetings and a series of documentation, the Kaziranga Reserve Forest was established in the year 1905.

Finally, it was declared National Park in 1908.

Kaziranga National Park is home to around 2,200 one-horned rhinoceros.

This area has elephant grassy meadows, swampy lagoons, and dense evergreen forests.

Therefore, many animals such as one-horned rhinoceros, elephants, wild water buffalo and swamp deer take shelter in Kaziranga National Park.

Moreover, the broad diversity of wildlife beauty is the attraction point of Kaziranga.

Not only animals but you can also find varieties of birds here.

The tiger reserve is also an attraction point for many people.

Kaziranga National Park: UNESCO world Heritage Center:

  The Kaziranga National Park was inscribed on the World Heritage List on 6th December,1985 by UNESCO.

Moreover, the Park is well known for its success in conserving the greater one-horned rhinoceros.

  As far as the history of Kaziranga is concerned Lady Curzon first heard about Rhino of Kaziranga from her British Tea Planter friends.

She visited Assam in 1904.

Although she could not see the animal but spotted hoof prints with three toes which concerned Lady Curzon that such an animal exist.

 On her return she persuaded Lord Curzon to declare 7,273,60 acres of Kaziranga as a reserved forest.

Finally Kaziranga was declared as Reserved Forest on 3rd January,1908 and was closed for shooting.  

Best time to visit Kaziranga National Park:

  The best time to visit the Kaziranga National park is from November to April.

The park remains closed from May to October every year for the visitors.

In the summer season, the climate in the Kaziranga gets dry and windy.

Therefore, at that time  you can see animals around water bodies as they come to drink water and relax.

In the monsoon season, the Kaziranga National Park closes because of the warnings of Brahmaputra River Floods.

Threats to biodiversity in kaziranga National Park

Following are the major threats that have a direct bearing on the wildlife, habitats and values of the World Heritage site:

Poaching (hunting and Killing) of Rhino is a major problem in Kaziranga. One horned rhino is the main target of poachers. Due to heavy demand and ever increasing price of Rhino horn in the illegal markets, incidents of Rhino poaching has increased. If this continues, rhinos are likely to get extinct.

Seasonal flooding:

Floods in Brahmaputra river of Assam is a regular feature. Although floods are good in maintaining the balance in vegetation, there are many side effects of flood as well. Death of wild animals, shortage of food and fodder, unattended animals, highway accidents and damage to infrastructure are some of the problems created by floods every year.

Climate change impacts:

Due to Climate change , Humans and wild animals face new challenges for survival. Frequent flood, intense drought, storms and global warming  can directly harm animals. Change in climate  is destroying the places they live and wreak havoc on people’s livelihoods and communities.

Human Interference:

Wildlife is on threat due to close proximity to human settlements. Encroachment of land in Kaziranga and illegal entry of people from Bangladesh has made the lives of wild animals in danger. Dhabas and resorts in sensitive zones have also posed threats to the wildlife in Kaziranga.

The other factors are:

• unplanned tourism
• highway traffic,
• spread of invasive species (mimosa) and livestock grazing.

Kaziranga is a valuable asset of Assam. Moreover, It is a rare and beautiful place on earth. That’s why UNESCO recognizes it by including in the list of World Heritage Sites . Therefore, every person living in Assam must realize this fact and must feel proud. Moreover, Government agencies and local people must try to solve the problems of Kaziranga National Park together. Government must take the initiative in increasing public awareness so that every person can extend their helping hands. Kaziranga National Park is the home of some of the rarest wild animals. Strict vigilance and rules can protect this asset of ours.

• Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park, a site for world heritage is situated in the districts of Golaghat and Nagaon, Assam. Its land area is 430 square kilometers. The nearest city to Kaziranga is Jorhat, Tezpur. It is declared as a national park by the Indian Government in 1905. It is especially famous for its one-horned rhinoceros. The park hosts two-thirds of the world’s one-horned rhinoceros. The term ‘Kaziranga’ is derived from the Karbi word ‘kajir-a-rang’ which means ‘the village of the Kajir’.

According to a popular traditional belief, once the locality of Kaziranga was ruled by a Karbi woman named Kajir and after her name, the area ruled by her was called Kaziranga.

Through the bed of Kaziranga two rivers- Difu and Vengra and many streams have been flowing from east to west. Its soil is fertile done to the mud of the mighty Brahmaputra. Kaziranga is the habitat of many precious wild animals, birds and trees. Of the total area, 28 percent is covered by a variety of trees, 66 percent is grassland and 6 percent is covered by marshy area.

Among its trees, there are shal, Shishu, cotton, jamu, ajar, kabai, sunaru, teak and many others. Among its animals, there are rhinoceros, buffalo, elephant, deer, monkey, porcupine, cats, jackal, leopard etc. The park is full of many kinds of birds among which mention may be made of cock, ducks, vulture, goose, wren, crow, pigeon, bulbul , parrot, kite, heron kingfisher and so on.

Kaziranga now has been facing a menace of poachers. Every year many rhinoceros have been poached by the poacher because of its horn, and many elephants are killed for their teeth. Another menace the park has been facing is the cutting of its trees and deforestation caused by the explosion of population. Every year many acres of land in the park have been deforested and occupied by homeless people ignoring the law. In addition to these, the great flood has been doing great erosion to the park every year besides taking away the lives of many birds and animals.

The Kaziranga National Park is maintained by the Government by Assam. But from time to time, the Indian Government also renders financial assistance and suggestions for its conservation and development. For its maintenance, there is a special forest force with modern facilities.

Kaziranga is now a world heritage and many tourists from other states and even from foreign countries come to Assam to enjoy the wild animals, especially the world-famous one-horned rhinoceros and its natural beauty. To visit the entire Kaziranga there are some departmental elephants, cars, boats etc. In Kohera there is an inn for tourists. Every year the Assam Government has been earning a lot of royalties from the Kaziranga National Park.

Kaziranga is not a forest or park only but also a resource of bio-diversity. The people of Assam and India are proud of it. We should protect this world heritage from the hand of poachers, smugglers, and illegal intruders and to bring about this into reality the local people must cooperate with the government.  0 0 0
