“Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn's full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.”

‘Spider-man: Across the Spider-Verse’ opened in theaters domestically on June 2, 2023. Initially, the movie was slated to release in April 2022 but shifted to a later release date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ opened to $120.6 million domestically and so far has grossed $371.8 million since its release. Worldwide, the movie has earned $666.5 million. This film serves as part one, with part two slated for a 2024 release.

The first film not only received positive reviews from critics and fans alike, but it also won the Academy Award for “Best Animated Feature” in 2019. The highly anticipated sequel once again dazzled the audience and is certified Fresh on the Tomatometer.

Expanding The Spider-Verse

This movie further expands what we already know of the Spider-Verse through the lens of Miles Morales. The film’s protagonist, The Spot, figured out that his spots can be used as portals for dimension jumping, but also the reason why Miles Morales became Spider-Man in the first place. The Spot uses his portals to travel to universes with colliders by absorbing its power to further increase his power, making him quite formidable for the team of Spider-man and Spider-woman.

Gwen Stacy also gets some much needed attention in this movie as we dive into her past on how she became Spider-Woman, her struggle to keep her identity a secret from her father, and how losing her best friend catapulted her into the frenzied world the “Spider Society.”

For the first time on the big screen, we’re introduced to Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Punk, Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, and Pavitr Prabhakar/Spider-man India - all of them working together under the direction of Spider-Man 2099 to prevent catastrophic canon events.

Sharp-eyed audience members begin to wonder if there were two versions of the film being shown in theaters The differences are subtle and do not affect the overall story. An example is when Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 speaks with Lyla - In one version, Lyla takes a selfie with a bunny ear filter that shows up on Miguel’s face, and one version shows Lyla giving a fist bump. “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is playing exclusively in theaters and IMAX.

Although Spider-Man is a Marvel character and Tom Holland has portrayed the webslinger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is a Sony Pictures Animation film. Because of its deal with Netflix, “Across the Spider-Verse” will make its streaming debut on Netflix at some point in the future, likely around December.

Given this exciting plot, it comes as no surprise that many folks will want to know how to watch and stream Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse from the comfort of their own home. As of right now, the new Marvel movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse can only be watched in theaters. But it likely won't be long until the film swings its way onto one of the most popular streaming sites.

The animated movie is currently being distributed by Sony Pictures, the studio behind its predecessor and both the Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland Spider-Man film trilogies. While the studio owns the films , the rights to the Spider-Man franchise are technically in the hands of Marvel Comics, which is owned by Disney.

Back in April 2021, Sony and Disney inked a licensing deal that would allow the media conglomerate to distribute all of Sony's theatrical releases on Disney platforms between 2022 and 2026. This agreements also includes the distribution of the older Spider-Man films , which recently began popping up on Disney+. Between this deal and the nature of where the older movies landed, it's likely Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will live on the streamer too.

As for a specific release date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse , that's currently difficult to determine. Disney+ often drops new releases on the site within three months of its theatrical debut, like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania . If this movie follows a similar pattern, folks can expect to start streaming it around Labor Day weekend in early September 2023.

Here's everything we know about how to stream Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was one of the hit movies this summer and if you're like me, you already need to rewatch. And now there is good news! Across the Spider-Verse is officially available to stream on Netflix and will eventually be available to stream on Disney Plus . That means you no longer need to spend money to rent the move from a video-on-demand service to get your Spider-Verse fix.

The second of three Spider-Verse movies ('Beyond' is coming eventually but is currently delayed), Across the Spider-Verse brings Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) back in touch thanks to the chaos caused by aspiring super-villain The Spot (Jason Schwartzman). This brings Miles deeper inside the Spider-Verse and a secret network of Spider-Men protecting the multiverse as well as a dark conspiracy overshadowing everything.

So here's everything you need to know about how to watch Spider-Man : Across the Spider-Verse on a few of the best streaming services .

Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse streaming on Netflix?

Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is streaming on Netflix in the U.S. as of October 31. It's unclear at this time when other regions will get access, but hopefully, the wait won't be too long. 

In theory, Across the Spider-Verse will debut on Netflix first in other regions as well, as the current Sony and Netflix contract was billed as "a new source of first-run films for Netflix movie lovers worldwide" when it was announced. However, we've noticed that this hasn't necessarily been the case. For example, in Australia, you'll need Prime Video to stream Across the Spider-Verse.

Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse streaming on Disney Plus?

Eventually, yes — but not yet. Sony has a deal with Disney for movies released between 2022 and 2026, which includes Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. This deal, combined with Sony's deal with Netflix puts Sony films on Disney Plus after Netflix. Per the terms of these deals, Netflix has what's called the "Pay 1 window," and Disney Plus gets the "Pay 2 window."

The good news is that now that the Netflix streaming date is official, we can make a pretty good educated guess as to when Disney Plus will get Across the Spider-Verse. Based on past reporting and industry standards, the Pay 2 window will likely start either 12 months after the Pay 1 window or 18 months after the theatrical release date. 

With that in mind, we expect Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to start streaming on Disney Plus sometime between October 2024 and December 2024 .

Where to watch the rest of the Spider-Verse

If you want to watch the rest of the Spider-Man movies...well, it's surprisingly complex. Because Sony doesn't have its own streaming service, it makes deals with a wide range of streamers based on what it thinks is the best deal for it. 

Thankfully, at least in the U.S., future movies should hit Netflix first and then go to Disney Plus — at least until Sony's current deals with both run out in 2026 — but for stuff that's already come out, there are multiple places you'll need to go to find all the best Spider-Man movies.

Note: The following information is based on U.S. streaming availability. Other regions' availability may differ based on Sony's deals with the various streaming services.

First, let's start with the other Spider-Verse movie. Currently, if you want to watch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, you'll either need a cable TV subscription or rent it from video-on-demand providers. It is not currently streaming on a streaming service. If you have cable though, you can log into FX Now and watch using your cable TV provider.

Most of the other popular Spider-Man movies are on Disney Plus. Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Homecoming is there, as is the entire Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy and both of Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man movies. If you want to branch out beyond just Spider-Men, the first Venom movie is also on Disney Plus. If you want to watch Venom's sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, or complete the Tom Holland trilogy, you're going to need a Starz subscription. Those three movies are also available for rent through video-on-demand services if you don't want to add another monthly subscription to your budget. Finally, there's one final Sony Spider-Man universe movie out there: Morbius. If you want to watch the (occasionally) villainous vampire there is good news — it's currently available to stream on Netflix. So once you're done watching Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse you can queue it up to watch next.

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson and written by frequent collaborators Phil Lord and Christopher Miller , the sequel finds Miles reuniting with Gwen Stacy and entering the Multiverse where he meets a variety of other versions of Spider-Man.

Exciting for comic-book fans and newcomers alike, the movie introduces several new colorful characters while presenting a high-stakes adventure — crucial to every good superhero story.

Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld voice Miles and Stacy respectively with Jake Johnson stepping in as a grown-up Peter Parker. 

Since Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ’s release, the movie has gathered high critical and audience reception. Adam Nayman wrote for The Ringer , “It’s smart stuff, leaps and bounds beyond Marvel’s snarky hegemony,” and Valerie Complex wrote for Deadline that the movie “reminds us why we love superhero narratives — not just for the action but for their humanity.”

Decider’s John Serba also left a positive review, writing , “Thematically, the film builds upon its predecessor’s coming-of-age story and exploration of identity and belonging.”

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) is a 1985 American epic coming-of-age period drama film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Menno Meyjes, based on the Pulitzer Prize–winning 1982 novel of the same name by Alice Walker. It was Spielberg's eighth film as a director, marking a turning point in his career as it was a departure from the summer blockbusters for which he had become known. It was also the first feature film directed by Spielberg for which John Williams did not compose the music. The film instead featuring a score by Quincy Jones, who also produced. The cast stars Whoopi Goldberg in her breakthrough role, with Danny Glover, Oprah Winfrey (in her film debut), Margaret Avery, and Adolph Caesar.

Filmed in Anson and Union counties in North Carolina,the film tells the story of a young African-American girl named Celie Harris and the brutal experiences she endured including domestic violence, incest, child sexual abuse, poverty, racism, and sexism.

The film was a box office success, grossing $98.4 million against a budget of $15 million. The film received acclaim from critics, with particular praise going to its acting (especially Goldberg's performance), direction, screenplay, musical score, and production values. The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Goldberg, Best Supporting Actress for both Avery and Winfrey, and Best Adapted Screenplay, but did not achieve a single win. It also received four Golden Globe Award nominations, with Goldberg winning Best Actress in a Drama. In 2006, the American Film Institute ranked the film 51st on its list of most inspiring movies.

Sony will release a new animated short titled “The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story” on Sony Pictures Animation ’s YouTube channel at 6 a.m. PT on March 27.

In navigating those pressures, Miles experiences a panic attack that forces him to confront the manifestations of his anxiety and learn that reaching out for help can be just as brave an act as protecting his city from evil.

KLF founder, professional basketball player and mental health advocate Kevin Love said, “My hope for the short film would be for everyone, especially young people, to understand that your feelings are valid and that you are not alone in this.”

Love continued, “You see it with Spider-Man in the short film, where Miles has a trusted confidante. He is able to take a walk with his dad and express what he’s going through. We can all learn from that – how important it is to reach out to someone, express your true emotions, speak your truth and not hold everything inside.”

“The Spider Within: “A Spider-Verse Story” is written by Khaila Amazan, and produced by LENS program creators Michelle Raimo-Kouyate and David Schulenburg. Rounding out the LENS team are Clara Chan who served as vfx supervisor and Joe Darko who served as animation supervisor.

It's unlikely audiences will revisit the Spider-Verse on the big screen anytime soon, with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse eyeing a 2025 release date amid delays , but viewers can soon see a new story about Miles Morales for free from the comfort of their own home. Following its North American debut at last year's Annecy International Animation Film Festival , The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story is coming exclusively to YouTube courtesy of Sony. Variety reports that the short film will be available on Sony Pictures Animation's channel starting on March 27 as part of a partnership with the mental health outreach and support program, the Kevin Love Fund.

The Spider-Within sees Miles take a break from fighting multiversal threats and villains of the week to tackle a more insidious and all too common foe - Anxiety. Saddled with responsibilities as a student, a teenager, a friend, and the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, he experiences a panic attack when everything in life overwhelms him. The moment pushes him to address the manifestations of his anxiety and reach out to his support system in his time of need. It's meant to send an important lesson to anyone struggling with mental health - opening up to and seeking help from others can be as brave as swinging into danger to save the day .

In addition to Annecy, the short also appeared as part of last year's Animation Is Film Festival lineup , joining other animated darlings like The Boy and the Heron and Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget . Described as a trippy and somewhat scary tour through Miles's subconscious, the new Spider-Verse adventure was made for Sony Pictures Imageworks as part of the LENS (Leading and Empowering New Storytellers) mentorship program with Jarelle Dampier directing and Khaila Amazan writing. Shameik Moore and Brian Tyree Henry reprise their roles as Miles and his father, Jefferson Davis. In an official statement, Dampier hit on how he wanted to ensure audiences related to Miles's struggle with The Spider Within and hoped that it would spark a realization in many viewers who love the character:

'The Spider Within' Contributes to a Worthy Cause

The release of The Spider Within directly ties into the KLF's new mental health-centric lesson plan "The Hero Within," which is built for students to create their own stories around mental health awareness as part of an interactive curriculum. NBA star Kevin Love created the fund to ensure everyone has the means to live a healthy life mentally and physically without stigma by combining research, advocacy, education, and grantmaking into one program. In his own statement, he emphasized how the new Spider-Verse short represented the perfect partner for the KLF by showing what a healthy expression of mental health struggles looks like, especially for younger viewers:
