Open Source

But what does open-source mean? It means that the code that the developers write is available to you. But more than that, it means that OpenLP is, and always will be, free. Remote Control

Control your presentations from anywhere using OpenLP's first-of-its-kind remote system. With a built-in web app, you can access your service from any network-enabled device that has a browser and a touch screen. Change slides, or even change what is currently presenting from your phone. For those with Android or iOS devices there is an Android and an iOS app available on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, to download for free. They have all the same features as the web app, packed into a native application.

Praisenter allows you to send content to each display independently. The number of displays is dependent on the number of video outputs your system supports.

Display Bible verses, song lyrics, pictures, videos, custom slides, and notifications.

With Praisenter you can create Bibles, song lyrics, and slides that include pictures, videos, and audio. Slides can have backgrounds, static text, dynamic text, the current date/time, count downs, pictures, animations, and more.

Since Praisenter is free, you can download it anywhere, and build content. After building that content you can export it and import it on another computer. This is a great way to prepare content for services ahead of time.

Workspaces allow you to collect all your assests (Bibles, song lyrics, videos, pictures, etc.) in a single location. You could create a workspace for Bible study nights and separate workspace for worship services or a workspace for youth services or special events.

Quick start

Get started fast by following these easy steps.

Install Praisenter using the Microsoft Store for Windows or the SnapStore for Ubuntu using the links above.

Setup a workspace

After installation, when you run Praisenter, it will ask for a workspace. This should be a new or empty folder that will be used to store all the content.

Download a Bible

Launch Praisenter and go to the Help menu. Choose Download Unbound Bibles (for example). This will launch a webpage where you will see a list of lanugages containing Bibles.

Import a Bible

You can import Bibles, song lyrics, pictures, videos, and other content by dragging and dropping it anywhere on Praisenter. You can use the File, Import menu option as well.

Create your templates

Praisenter comes with VERY basic templates for display, you’ll likely want to build your own. Go to the File, New Slide menu option to start creating.

It’s always amusing to see some folks still using PowerPoint to project song lyrics during worship.

I mean it’s such a painfully inefficient way of doing things—especially when there are so many superior and free church presentation software that take just a few clicks to setup and get going.

If you want a PowerPoint alternative or simply want to learn more about the best church presentation software available for free to support your worship services, you should read this article.

A screen displaying lyrics and Bible texts is more or less replacing printed material at most places of worship. Depending on how it is used, the screen can be a purposeful aid or an unfortunate distraction.

Choosing the right church software to run your slides is therefore an important decision to support the worship environment.

It may not have all kinds of bells and whistles when it comes to features, but it does just enough to meet the most important church projection software requirements.

• OpenSong can easily double up as a worship song management tool—you can type in songs yourself or import them from CCLI’s SongSelect
• Or you can always go to any site providing lyrics and chords for worship songs and just copy paste from there
• Songs can be stored with chords, which of course won’t appear in presented slides. There’s a quick song transpose option also if you want to practice a song in a different key—it’s extremely convenient for musicians
• OpenSong also provides many free song packs in various languages to help get you started
• OpenSong’s website hosts a wide variety of Bibles that you can download for free and import into your system.
• Zefania XML Bibles, NRSV, NIV, KJV and more are available and supported for import apart from Bibles in other languages (French, Filipino, Portuguese, German etc.)
• Any image file can be set as a background for songs and Bible verses
• Fonts, colors etc. can be custom formatted separately for song slides, scripture slides and alerts
• While video backgrounds are not natively supported, it’s not completely impossible either if you can learn this workaround
• With OpenSong, you can present songs, Bible verses and alerts specifying the order of slides, such as verse 1, then chorus, then verse 2, then bridge, then chorus again and so on
• You can also present a preset timed loop of defined slides, create custom set lists in just a few minutes, search and find any Bible verse or song in seconds.

• EasiSlides installer (version 4 onwards) comes with built-in worship song lyric databases from the public domain in multiple languages apart from English
• If you want to migrate your existing song base from another church presentation program, you’re out of luck though—you’ll have to recreate your worship song data all over again
• Similar to OpenSong, worship song lyrics can also be stored with chords
• Bible versions are limited as there’s no native ability to import Bibles from third party sources
• However, EasySlides offers 3 English translations and a few more in other languages. Plus, there is a third party tool to convert Bibles from Unbound and XML versions into a format that can be imported and used in EasySlides
• EasySlide shines in media playback—it can play audio and video files including live video backgrounds through feeds from an attached camcorder

Is it an easy worship software? Maybe not, but once you spend some time to learn it, there’s no looking back—you’ll love it.

• Like Quelea, VideoPsalm can import songbooks from several sources—EasySlides, EasyWorship 2009, MediaShout, OpenLP, OpenLyrics format, OpenSong (Chords get imported too), Psalmo and plain text.
• Moreover, the VideoPsalm online library itself provides over 10,000 worship songs!
• Songs can also be stored with chords in ABC or Do-Ré-Mi notation apart from ChordPro compatibility.

If you’re looking for a reliable free option for your worship software requirements, you should take a serious look at Praisenter.

• Adding songs to Praisenter is not rocket science. It comes with an  import facility, which facilitates bulk import of songs, provided they are in ChurchView or OpenLyrics format
• Song parts (verse, chorus, bridge etc.) can be tagged easily—in fact, we can add unlimited number of parts to a song!
• There’s a Quick Send panel to present songs immediately too (with hot key support)
• A fast song search feature is also available
• Like songs, importing a Bible is also a piece of cake. Praisenter supports import of Bible translations from The Unbound Bible, which should take care of most scripture projection needs

It has a flexible template system to preset how the slide content is formatted. It can be used to present slides with image and video backgrounds (including live feeds from an attached video camera).

Alerts, support for any display resolution, launch of other files like PPT, Open Office, remote display over network etc. are other useful features of Datasoul.

Songview is a free worship song projection software for churches that can handle projection of songs and Bible passages with image or video backgrounds.

Songview supports PowerPoint files, addition of guitar chords to songs with stage display for bands, alerts, slide editing during live presentation and more.

Similar to VideoPsalm, Songview can also be installed and run from a USB drive also.

EpicWorship is a free, open source church projection and presentation software focusing on simplicity. It comes with just the most important list of features without complicating anything.

EpicWorship facilitates slide projection with image and video backgrounds (MP4 H.264-encoded only), import of OpenSong Bible formats and playback of audio files (MP3 or AAC).

Like OpenSong, it’s simple and easy to install and use.

LyricsPro is an Android church presentation app.

Using a schedule interface, LyricsPro can be used to present lyrics, videos, images and PPT slides. Font formatting and setting up image and video backgrounds are also possible. Songs can be imported from SongSelect too.

This can be best used in small group worship or band rehearsal sessions I think.

I will be watching this project to see how it develops in future.

12. Praise Base Presenter

Praise Base Presenter is an open source church presentation software to project worship lyrics, photos (JPG only) and Bible passages.

Apart from a simple song editor, it can also import Zefania XML Bibles and display lyrics in two languages.

13. Church Presenter

If the above options have not been able to convince you to ditch PowerPoint, then you should consider using Church Presenter.

This is a free plugin for PowerPoint 2007 that adds quite a bit of church friendly muscle to PowerPoint.

The add-in enables using PowerPoint for presentation, while facilitating quick song search by number, theme, alphabetical index, and keyword.

The layout of lyrics and Bible verses can be customized by using editable templates. Also supports export of songs to regular PowerPoint files with embedded fonts. Windows only.

Sorry, not aware of a software for that specific requirement.

We used MediaShout in my previous parish. When one of our volunteer projectionists could not be there, we used an IPad 9.7 to remotely control the video. It was a bit small. An IPad Pro is preferable. We used the IPad Pro 12′ as well. Since MediaShout is both available in Windows and MacOS, there never was any problem controlling the program remotely, without physically using the “projection booth” (where the control computer is located).

I don’t know about the other programs but I think it should be possible with any other program, since we did it using Teamviewer which is a program allowing you to use any computer on your network in remote.

Almost all of these programs don’t need an Internet connection to work.

I still fall back to PowerPoint. I have tried various other products, and while they can do some creative and different things, they all seem to be unable to do some essential thing. One of my main gripes is that many of them cannot do the simple task of displaying a verse with a section of it in a different color for emphasis. In the end, it is just easier and quicker to create my songs and sermon verses in PowerPoint. No CCLI plugin, but I have many songs already created and ready to go anyway. Why reinvent the wheel?

Just thought I’d point out that VideoPsalm can do this. Once you select your Verse(s) and add them to your agenda, you can right click them to convert them into an editable format in which you can do colors, fonts, and all kinds of things.

Exactly what I need too. People don’t want to see the bible verse by verse, a highlighted verse is way better.

VideoPsalm is an awesome piece of software. As a fledgling church, we were looking for presentation software that was free since we had no budget. I tried a few different ones but ended up with VideoPsalm. There is a learning curve to get started but once you get the hang of it, it’s incredibly easy to use. I can’t think of a feature I’ve needed that it couldn’t do. Video background, song imports, multiple import formats (PPT, PDF, etc), and more. Support is also great. I’ve emailed the author a few times and always get a prompt response. If you’re looking for church presentation software, even if you have a huge budget, check out VideoPsalm and you’ll love it.

Hi, we have been using Mediashout 3.5 for about 10 years, all of a sudden it just stopped working. The new version won’t run on this old computer, and when I installed on my own newer, the program is so completely different I cant comprehend myself having time to learn it, and then teach a bunch of student volunteers. Our needs are very simple. ALL of our songs and readings are already in MS Word .doc files. We don’t use any published songbooks or bibles, no video, no audio, no pdf, nothing. I only need a program that can handle matching the pages already set up in the .doc file (text is 48 pt) and populate it onto multiple slides. That’s it. Old mediashout did that just fine. New mediashout has way more features than we will ever use, and I just don’t have time to learn it.

I just tried VideoPsalm, and although it appears it should be able to do that, it doesn’t. Before I try the other 12 on the list, if anyone knows one that has just this one function, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

OpenLP is a church presentation software with various features to make church services interactive and more interesting for church members. You can use it to create slides from templates or custom ones for church services or make announcements. OpenLP comes with a free Android remote control app allowing you to control your presentation using your Android device anywhere inside your church. 

If you’re using Linux or FreeBSD as your church’s operating system, then OpenLP is the best church presentation software for you because OpenLP was made specifically for these operating systems. You’ll be able to use it to search and download a few selected Bible verses from a Bible site for use during presentations. You can use OpenLP to set up custom liturgies and setlists to make church services personalized in response to your congregation’s needs. 

Pro Presenter is one of the best editing and playback tools of any of the presentation software options out there. It can be simple to operate for most churches but takes more advanced users to set things up. It provides plenty of articles and video guides and has a strong user group. However, it is also one of the most expensive, as copyright Bibles are purchased one by one for $15 and on a per-computer basis.

Many of the more advanced tools also have additional add-on costs. The base program is available for Windows and Mac at the price of $399 for a single license or $999 for a church campus license, plus the price of whatever copyrighted Bibles you need.

With ProPresenter 7, you’ll get a year of support and software updates for free. After that year is up there is a yearly cost to continue getting support, bug fixes, software updates, and improvements. That cost is $159 per computer or $399 per campus license. If this membership expires for longer than 12 months following the first anniversary of purchase, it will require the purchase of an entirely new license according to ProPresenters website.

FreeWorship allows you the customization of presentations to help you prepare for worship services in advance. It is an easy-to-use software for creating and managing presentations for use during worship services and other church events. It has a video enhancer feature for adjusting brightness and contrast, ensuring optimal viewing of videos. FreeWorship also allows you to search for specific hashtags when searching for multimedia items. 

FreeWorship is best for smaller churches because it has basic features and is not complicated to use. It has a drag and drop functionality, making adding files and images straight to your service list easier. FreeWorship has a Child Lock feature to keep your files and formats secure by limiting who can make changes on critical files and presentations. 

EasySlides contains fitted lyrics databases in multiple languages. The variety of languages makes this a popular application. You’ll be challenged, however, if you’re moving to this software from another presentation software. It won’t allow you to relocate any existing database of songs from your old software to this one without a lot of painful steps.

There is also a limited amount of Bible versions and no ability to import versions from other sources. But the media possibilities are impressive. For example, it will play video and audio files with live backgrounds and even simultaneously project lyrics in two different languages on multiple screens for better visibility. Its HTML generator also allows you to publish lyrics. EasySlides is available only on Windows.

At $399 per year, MediaShout is a higher-tier paid worship presentation software solution that is very popular.

The slide editor is powerful, even supporting advanced features like scrolling text. There’s support for stage screens with limited customization, audio and props layers, and audio playlists.Strangely, MediaShout used to be cross-platform but went Windows-only in its latest release (sorry, Mac users!), while its remote app is iOS-only.

Unique capabilities for this software include a sermon builder, and support for an announcements layer or rotating mode. Volunteer Mode turns MediaShout’s settings and edit functions off and simplifies the control and user interface, so that anyone can run a show with minimal training.

EasyWorship seeks to find the balance between power and simplicity, and it does so fairly well (with a few limitations). The focus here is on slide design, with different tabs for songs, scripture, media, presentations, and themes. Media integration includes content from several providers, which is a nice touch. 

There’s a remote app for Android and iOS, allowing you to send alerts to the stage or audience. There’s even support for a stage view or confidence monitor as well. Overall, in terms of design and capabilities, EasyWorship seems more limited than some other options.

EasyWorship is one of only a few solutions to include broadcasting support, which is a big plus. EasyWorship does have a few limitations you should be aware of. First, it’s Windows-only, and the app includes native support for English alone.

Proclaim is available as part of the Faithlife suite of products, and you might recognize them as the creators of the well-known Logos Bible Software. This software is a cloud-based app that allows multiple users to collaborate in real-time. It has a great set of integrations, including SongSelect, CCLI, Logos, and the higher-level subscription come with an extensive media library of motion graphics and video clips.

The slide editor is okay though a bit different than others. It’s easy to use, but it’s not revolutionary. In some ways, the Faithlife ecosystem is like Microsoft 365 for churches. The power isn’t in any single app or service; it’s in all the features and deep integrations.

However, of all the ones listed, Proclaim is the on the range of the more expensive option. The software is only a subscription, which, depending on church size and features, ranges between $200 to $1175 per year . The website suggests the most popular option for the average small church is $300/year.

Songs of Songs is fantastic free church worship presentation software to create or import songs from CCLI, so you can use a song library during worship services. You can use it to create presentations manageable by operators or yourself via remote control during services. It also has a liturgy builder functionality to help you build and manage your liturgy in a centralized location for easy access during services.  

Free software is always a great thing to try and can help your church save money, so if you want free church worship presentation software, then Song of Songs is the best one for you. It has periodic free upgrades, so your software always has the latest features at no cost. Song of Songs is easy to use, making it ideal for users even if they are not tech-savvy. 

OpenSong is another great open-source presentation app focused on lyric management, chord sheets, and bible verses. It supports timed loops of slides and allows you to keep track of song metadata and CCLI information. It is cross-platform, available for Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems, and supports multiple languages.

OpenSong is best for you if you want a church presentation software without spending a dime because this software is free! OpenSong is also open-source, allowing you to alter and improve the software to suit your church’s unique needs. It can also save your church money because, aside from being free, open-source software is less demanding when it comes to hardware requirements. 

ZionWorks is a very easy-to-learn software that you can use for church presentations. It is like an all-in-one toolbox that helps you to present videos, audios, PowerPoint slideshows , etc. You can plan a seamless church experience for your audiences with just a few simple steps. You’ll be able to use a remote control to have access from anywhere.

This presentation software is on the cheaper side if this is the one you choose. For a monthly subscription of $17.50 you’ll have full access, and if you choose an annual subscription, it’s slightly less at $14.50 a month.

Big Screen is a great church presentation web app to help you create and manage presentations for church services and social events. You can use it to create themes giving presentations a consistent look and feel on different platforms. It supports multiple outputs making it ideal no matter how many output devices you have. 

Big Screen is best for your church if you need church presentation software to create presentations with multilingual Bible verses. It comes with so many scripture translations from the New American Standard Bible, New King James Version, La Biblia de las Américas, Japanese Contemporary Bible, etc. With Big Screen’s multilingual capability, you can promote inclusion and make non-English speakers feel more welcome in your congregation. 

Slipity is an iOS app for projecting texts, song lyrics, media, and YouTube videos on an external display. It allows full customization of slides letting you control the size, duration of transitions, and background elements, so your slides look precisely how you envision them. You can use Slipity’s time-based triggers, allowing you to schedule the launch of a specific presentation. 

If your church uses Mac and iOS devices, Slipity is the best for your church because this software works best for those operating systems. You can use AirPlay Mirroring to control presentations projected on a full screen. Its Stage Display feature lets you view current and succeeding slides on plain text on your control monitor while displaying full output on your projection screen.
