I am keen to pursue MSc (PGCertPGDip) Logistics and Supply Chain Management progamme at the University of Brighton because the professional world today is highly competitive and the importance of supply chain management and logistics in globalization, and digitization has multiplied. As I aim to improve and strengthen my knowledge of this Logistics and Supply Chain Management. This course covers topics such as Digital Supply Chain, International Logistics, Operations Management, Supply Chain Analytics, Enterprise Systems, and Strategic Purchasing. These are the aspects that have caught my attention and stimulated my imagination with the necessary innovations and strategic performances in business. I believe that it will be the right choice for my plans and objectives.

By researching the website of the University of Brighton I have seen the modules, syllabus, and learning outcomes of the Logistics and Supply Chain Management MSc (PGCertPGDip) progamme. This course is designed for graduates in any subject with or without work experience. The programme helps prepare me for a career in the alternative supply chain of case studies, company inspections, and paid work experience. This course includes face-to-face learning tutorials, workshops, laboratory classes, and studio sessions. This course is organized in 3 terms. In the first term of this course international logistics and financial and managerial accounting conduct operations in the supply, production, distribution of equipment, and strategy methods. The second term of this course provides knowledge development of business and management research methods, enterprise systems, chain management, various workshops, and strategic approaches. The third term of this course will help explore purchasing policies and practices in a broader global context. Since I have had the opportunity to study this course, I look forward to improving my skills and knowledge by taking this Logistics and Supply Chain Management course at Brighton University.If I can successfully complete this course it will create a platform for me to explore different career opportunities such as logistics analyst, purchasing manager, supply chain manager, and logistics manager. I believe this course will be the right choice for my career plans and objectives.

I completed my secondary and intermediate from the business studies group respectively. After that, I studied Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Information System at Daffodil International University. In my bachelor's degree, I was involved in various co-curricular activities to enrich my knowledge. Now I have come to realize that, I need to explore more about the business world to progress in my career level and for this reason, I decide to pursue my higher studies in the UK. As I want to explore my career in the Logistics and Supply Chain Management sector, this course will give me an upper hand to understand any business contexts and situations. I think I should gain more knowledge in the field of logistics and Supply Chain Management so I decided to continue my further studies with this course. This course provides academic knowledge and skills to pursue career opportunities worldwide and will help me develop a broader understanding of specific areas. As of the moment, I am interested in learning all the related skills and knowledge from this course. So, I believe that this course will make me fit for my successful career and help in my employment.

It was difficult to pick a specialization from the various options available to me, but I finally decided to build a career in the Logistics and Supply Chain Management section. Studying this course provides a variety of opportunities that enable me to adopt a creative and constructively critical approach to practice, supported by appropriate reading and research. This course module includes International Logistics and Finance, Supply Chain Analytics, and Operations Management for Logistics, Enterprise Systems and E-procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Research Methods for Masters Degrees, and Strategic Purchasing. For professionals, I believe this course will be the right choice for those looking for a successful career.

There are several reasons why I should have completed my higher degree in the UK. There is a long history of welcoming international students to study at UK universities and I like UK culture because they teach to be realistic. It is true that the UK is a well-known and well-liked destination for students looking to study abroad. Because of the UK's longstanding reputation for high-quality higher education, I have decided to pursue my higher education there. However, the study environment in my country follows the theoretical system of education which is quite different and no soft skills are acquired. The UK maintains a quality management system with high standards in all fields. Affordable tuition fees have attracted me the most. In addition, an academic degree from the United Kingdom is recognized and acclaimed by employers around the world. The transferable skills from the UK are key to advancing graduates through organizational growth and gaining a competitive advantage. This is again a reason to study in the UK. A recent survey of International Graduation Results in 2019 produced by iGraduate by Universities UK International shows that 82% of international graduates say their UK degree is valuable for financial investment and a similar number of graduates say they are satisfied or delighted with their careers. About 83% think a UK degree has helped them get a job. These aspects have driven my ambition to get a degree from a UK institution. I believe it will be helpful for my professional career.

I like the University of Brighton because it incredibly welcomes international students and I am attracted to this course because it offers a different perspective in an area where I want to study. With over 18,985students, the university offers outstanding higher education for people from all backgrounds and over 150 countries, with a significant mature student body and a growing international graduate community. The university is ranked 601st in the QS World University Rankings by Top Universities and has an overall score of 4 stars, according to student reviews in the study portals. According to DLHE 2018-2019, 89% of graduates are working and/or further studying within three months of graduation. In addition, the university has a well-equipped campus. By researching a lot, I have come to know that, the University of Brighton provide tuition to their students that goes way beyond the classroom. It enables me to take pride in helping businesses take me to new horizons by applying the knowledge and skills I can gain through Logistics and Supply Chain Management. So, I believe this course is right for my future career so I will never look back if I get the chance to study the course at the University of Brighton.

Here is a sample personal statement of a supply chain professional who applied and was admitted to top graduate programs in supply chain and inventory management. She has graciously shared her successful essay so that prospective applicants can benefit from it.

Sample Personal Statement in Supply Chain Management

In today’s world, few have the chance to complete high school, even fewer get to go to college, and only a handful are fortunate enough to pursue graduate studies. My country ranks 91 out of the 150 nations on the global literacy index and evens lower in female literacy; being raised in a rural area of the country where education is the least of priorities, I was exposed very early in my life to the disparities that exist between the haves and the have-nots. Therefore, my academic and professional endeavours over the past four years are an attempt at fulfilling the responsibility which comes with my good fortune of being amongst the affluent. In what follows, I discuss how these experiences have shaped my interests and led me to pursue an academic career in Supply Chain Management.

We all have role models – for me, it was my father. As an immigrant to France, he established an extremely profitable restaurant chain from the ground up. He achieved what others take generations to accomplish through meticulous planning, motivation, and perseverance. He always encouraged me to work with him at his restaurant during my vacations which I gladly did. By closely working with him for several years, I have acquired his qualities of superior management and quantitative analysis – essential for a career in business management.

My practical voyage in supply chain began early at my father’s restaurants. At the restaurant, using historical data and applying forecasting techniques, I learned how to handle better lead time to produce better results for our company. In addition, excel-based quantitative modelling and inventory management tools allowed me to accurately stock what was required and discard what was not. These measures significantly reduced our warehousing costs and space.

However, my first academic exposure to the Supply Chain course came when I had to lead a group project for “New Mexico Spinning Mills”, – a textile production facility. After doing brief research by interviewing several employees at the production unit and getting our hands on their supply, demand, and procurement data, I learned how the firm reduced costs and increased productivity by accurately forecasting future needs. They had complex predictive models to churn out expected order levels with high accuracy. This was particularly new for me since the company used Monte Carlo simulation and advanced modelling techniques to ensure excellent precision. Being able to determine their demand, they placed precise orders and effective contracts with their suppliers and reduced any uncertainty.

Recent decades have seen a fundamental shift in the market landscape, with companies taking full advantage of supply chain techniques to improve businesses. Being particularly intrigued by its value proposition, I began my full-time internship at “Morlo Spinning Mills” in their Supply Chain Operations department. My work entailed using various modelling techniques to develop inventory models and creating a performance monitoring system for key business metrics. Here, not only have I acquired a diverse set of analytical skills, but I have also developed an admiration for research in its ability to tackle complex problems arising in practice.

Beyond course and fieldwork, perhaps the most inspiring experience for me was reading the article “Efficient consumer response in Japan Industry concerns, current status, benefits, and barriers to implementation.” It clearly and vividly laid out the importance of the supply chain. Specifically, it talks about one application of supply chain – efficient consumer response (ECR). ECR revolves around using technology and efficient processes to ensure greater customer value. This paper demonstrates how Supply Chain is changing how we think about such problems and continuously improving upon existing solutions to drive efficiency and profitability. As an aspiring academician, I look forward to contributing to this effort.

Through my coursework and internship experiences, I have developed an interest in predictive and descriptive modelling. In my work at my father’s restaurant and internships, I have always seen the immense need for statistics and other analytical techniques to solve procurement issues and dynamic statistical models that govern order replenishment in supply chains.

Because decision problems in these settings involve complex networks, multiple periods, and many products, I have also taken a keen interest in other approximation methods. Therefore, I am visiting Turkey later this month to research entrepreneurship in Supply Chain Management and the role played by universities in Istanbul and business incubators to improve the supply chain in Turkey. I plan to gather information by interviewing our selected audience, including Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, Deans, and Head of Departments or Institutions. The outcome of this is expected to come up with some research papers on and identifying the similarities and complementarities between the two countries in this field.

Warwick’s program in Supply Chain Management is particularly well-aligned with my interests, and I find courses in Procurement & Inventory management and applied statistics particularly appealing. Today, competition in the marketplace is compelling companies to become increasingly creative in optimizing their supply chain. As a result, I am eager to learn advanced techniques through coursework and projects that would eventually help me overcome hurdles that I faced in the restaurant business – and continuously strive to improve profitability.

The interdisciplinary nature of Supply Chain Management at Warwick stems from the diverse backgrounds of its faculty and students; this enables the program to span the spectrum of cutting-edge applied and theoretical research in Supply chain. Given the range of professional experiences, I have had over the years, being a Masters’s student in this department would be the ideal start to my academic career. I am particularly looking forward to studying in the highly competitive environment of Warwick because competition brings out the best in me. In addition, this program will fulfil my passion for applying mathematical theory to solving complex problems and allow me to leverage my analytical skills and industry experience to contribute to the program’s intellectual diversity.

     In today’s interconnected and increasingly competitive global economy, companies must have cutting-edge supply chain management in order to stay abreast of changes in global production capacity and adjust accordingly. For my future career, I am interested in contract manufacturing in countries such as China and Korea. Specifically, I hope to work as a Purchasing Manager at a company such as Samsung, which must maintain innovative development and implementation of supply chain strategies in order to stay competitive and profitable on an international scale. By studying at XXX University, I expect to learn more about all of the links in a supply chain and how to make strategic changes as needed to ensure continued competitiveness. Through the extensive academic resources in your program, including not only the classes and lectures but also the industry links and practical experiences, I expect to emerge with a highly practical understanding of how to manage a complex supply chain in the contemporary dynamic business world.

With the academic and work experiences I have accumulated thus far, I feel well prepared and confident to enter your MSc program. In 2012, I earned a Bachelor of Management degree from Goodwell State University, specializing in Financial Management. Through this program, I acquired a general introduction to many aspects related to management, including marketing, supply chain, human resources, finance and accounting. I also worked on a number of research papers concerning, for example, the pricing of IPOs and SWOT analysis of companies. In my senior year, I took an internship in UBC bank, where I gained a much more practical perspective of what I had learned in classes while honing my professional skills and learning of the operations of a successful large-scale company. Since graduation, I have been working in the credit department of MegaSuper Bank, dealing directly with individual and corporate customers and analyzing risk on a daily basis.

My university studies and work experience give me a broad understanding of the business world, and it is because of this perspective that I have decided to focus on supply chain management for my future career. Because supply chain management is an inherently international field, I know that I could benefit greatly by undertaking further studies overseas, which is why I am applying to your university. In preparation for going abroad, I have been studying English intensively, and I recently earned excellent GMAT and IELTS scores, as shown on my CV. By studying in your program, I hope to acquire broader, more in-depth knowledge of this subject, with the goal of going on to a career as a Purchasing Manager. This will require me to have a keen understanding of all links in the supply chain. Through the lectures, case studies, and research project undertaken in your program, I expect to soon have the skills necessary to help companies ensure a competitive supply chain. In other words, I view an education in XXX University as a crucial stepping stone towards my future career.

Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT)

Students may opt for membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). The University pays for membership while students are taking the course and there are no other exam or book fees for the student.

Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS)

Students may opt for membership of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS). Student membership is free for the duration of the course. Students who successfully complete their course can apply to become a Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS), subject to assessment of a formal application and payment of costs such as entrance and membership fees. Annette Clayton

Annette Clayton is well-known in supply chain circles, as she led a radical and successful transformation at  Dell : Clayton set a strategic standard that many in supply chain are still following.

Clayton’s career started in the notoriously tough world of automotive, with more than 20 years at  General Motors , including executive roles in production, engineering, quality and even as President of Saturn Corporation.

Recently named President and CEO of  Schneider Electric  ’s North American operations, Clayton still serves as the company’s Chief Supply Chain Officer.

She has been a huge contributor to the SCM World community, actively participating in EAB meetings despite a brutal time-zone penalty dialing in from  Asia . She is also instrumental to their growth, as a mentor to their own Matt Davis, who worked for her at Dell.

Beth Ford  is EVP and COO for Land O’Lakes; has responsibility for supply chain operations from farm to customer including R&D and IT.

Ford is also the spiritual heart of SCM World’s efforts on gender diversity in the profession. Her experience runs deep and spans a crazy range of industries, but on top of that, she makes the time to shape education for the future with board seats at both Columbia and Iowa State universities.

Maria Lindenberg  is the Chief Procurement Officer for Chevron, controlling $46 billion in annual spending.

As a graduate of Arizona State’s supply chain program, Lindenberg is in good company with dozens of other top sourcing executives from the Carey School of Business.

As CPO, she was central to a recently completed project of massive proportions – the  Gorgon Project  off the northwest coast of Australia. This six-year effort is the largest single resource development in Australia’s history: it’s and a complex web of partnerships, both public and private.

Sandra MacQuillan is the first ever Chief Supply Chain Officer at Kimberly-Clark Corporation.

Choose your modules

Principles of Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Logistics and supply chain management are one of the key business areas for companies to compete, succeed and thrive in today’s business environment. You'll be introduced to the principles and practices of Logistics and Supply Chain Management and the role it plays within the organisation. You will explore how the significant changes in the wider competitive environment impact on logistics and supply chain management.

Supply Chain Strategy and Design

This module delivers advanced knowledge of the strategy and design of supply chains. You'll discuss global case studies and learn how to apply supply chain design principles. And you'll explore approaches to supplier relationship management, procurement and customer service strategies.

Decision Making Techniques for Supply Chain Management

You'll learn modelling and measurement tools for making informed, data-driven decisions to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in supply chains. Our experiential learning philosophy means you'll also use modern software tools to gain skills for business.

Sustainable Logistics and Operations Management

This module will introduce you to the realm of sustainable management of logistics and supply chain operations. Dissertation (MSc Business)

This Dissertation gives you the chance to tailor your research project according to your interests gained throughout the taught element of your MSc programme. Professor Nishikant Mishra

Professor Nishikant Mishra is head of the Management Systems Subject Group and a professor. He was previously Director of Postgraduate Research and senior lecturer in Operations and Supply Chain Management at Norwich Business School.

What do I need?

If you’re an undergraduate student at Hull, you’re guaranteed a fast-track route to this postgraduate degree, as long as you meet the entry requirements.

In order to ensure our students have a rich learning and student experience, most of our programmes have a mix of domestic and international students. We reserve the right to close applications early to either group if application volumes suggest that this blend cannot be achieved.

If you require a student visa to study or if your first language is not English you will be required to provide acceptable evidence of your English language proficiency level.

This course requires academic IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 5.5 in each skill. See other English language proficiency qualifications accepted by the University of Hull.

Fees & funding

How much is it.

Your tuition fees will cover most costs associated with your programme. There are some extra costs that you might have to pay, or choose to pay, depending on your programme of study and the decisions you make:

• Books (you can borrow books on your reading lists from the library, but you may buy your own)
• Optional field trips
• Study abroad (incl. travel costs, accommodation, visas, immunisation)
• Placement costs (incl. travel costs and accommodation)
• Student visas (international students)
• Laptop (you’ll have access to laptops and PCs on campus, but you may want your own)
• Printing and photocopying
• Professional-body membership
• Graduation (gown hire and photography)

Remember, you’ll still need to take into account your living costs. This could include accommodation, travel, food and more.

How do I pay for it?

UK students can take out a Masters Loan to help with tuition fees and living costs. For 2024 entry, they provide up to £12,471 for full-time and part-time taught and research Masters courses in all subject areas. Find out more about Postgraduate Loans .

Logistics & scm personal statement example.

During my time in second level education I was always drawn towards the practical side of life, committing to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Whilst practicing this sport I have achieved a bronze medal in the Dublin International Open of 2017 and competed in the British International Open. Due to my commitment and determination in this sport, I fulfilled a leadership role coaching young children once a week.

Receiving the role of mentor during fifth form also reflects the trust and confidence teachers bestowed upon me to lead younger years to a healthy academic life, especially in a boarding school where self-care is detrimental to scholastic and mental health.

My first year of university has taught me the importance of self-motivation and determination, balancing between my studies in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (SCM), training, working, dealing with a personal health scare at the time and acting as a guardian towards my sibling, whilst both my parents are living abroad. During this time, I was able to receive 60 ECTS credits during my first year. This reflects my maturity towards all walks of life and my ability to balance life at home and at university.

My interest in Logistics started in my final year of secondary school where I had read an article on how IKEA had changed the logistical world through innovative ideas with the packaging of their “GLIMMA” candles in 1999. This had also made me realise that there is an enormous network constantly changing and evolving behind the scenes that the general public do not acknowledge. Logistics and SCM has always been more than a course or career path for myself, it is a way for me to give back and to make people feel more connected.

During my first-year studying Logistics and SCM at DIT, I had always brainstormed for new ideas and innovations to make public transport more inviting for commuters. My app for Dublin Bus and Irish Rail was the closest to coming into fruition, the app allowed the elderly and disabled to notify app users on the bus or train that there were people at the next stop in more need of a seat during peak hours. The satisfaction of being able to make a difference in people’s day to day lives is what drives my passion for Logistics and SCM. It was a relief, I was beginning to lose hope that I would never find a course I was passionate about.

I am also currently working towards a diploma in Pharmaceutical Handling issued by the International Air Transport Association that will aid me after my time at university. My father is a Medical Engineer, which combined with my interest in Logistics and SCM has led me to my goal of being able to start a company that can create secure and efficient networks to transport pharmaceuticals and medicinal equipment to third-world countries across the globe that are not able to acquire the equipment otherwise due to poor supply chains and network access.

I have always wanted to travel and live abroad, but I am also a very “homey” person due to my life with friends in Ireland, so the UK is the perfect place for me to study. The UK offers enough distance for me to let go of my responsibilities in Ireland and to focus on my studies but also close enough to visit my friends and feel close to home.

I am a committed, ambitious and dedicated individual. I am eager to work to the best of my abilities, if you choose to accept my application to your university. I will strive to reach my highest potential so that I can have a solid foundation that will direct me to a fulfilling career in a subject that I have a passion for.

I look forward to further my knowledge in Logistics and use this degree as a foundation to explore the world of business and to one day, reach my goal.

Master the planning, creation and delivery of products and services on a global scale. You’ll learn the skills necessary for designing and operating supply chains, all whilst navigating changing economic conditions, emerging technologies and consumer expectations.

From supply chain sustainability to advanced operations management, this course explores topics that are critical to gaining a competitive advantage in the global business environment.

You’ll graduate with skills that are in growing demand across a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, construction, retail and fast-moving consumer goods.

This MSc will provide the foundations that professionals in operations and supply chain management require for successful decision-making in the future.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

• explore and develop strategic perspectives on supply chains and logistics systems
• learn how to manage buyer-supplier relationships within supply chain networks
• plan and implement sourcing strategies that are resilient in the face of pandemics or political change
• gain the support and insight of groups like  CORMSIS  and CentasPM, including a mentoring scheme, practitioner talks and company visits

Some students on this programme will also have the opportunity to experience an industrial placement in the context of the dissertation.

After a successful interview with a sponsor organisation, a student will undertake research around a specific problem encountered in this organisation in close collaboration with this firm and under supervision of a business school academic. Consequently, said student will write the dissertation on this research project and its outcome.

Course structure

The programme is centered on how to make strategic decisions about the organisation of the movement, transformation, storage and flows of goods, people, data, and money - all to meet certain performance and sustainability criteria across a supply network.  

Each module focuses on specific areas of required knowledge or skills related to these. 

This programme is full-time with a duration of 12 months. It consists of two semesters with a range of compulsory and optional modules, giving you the opportunity to tailor your degree as you wish.

Semester 1 overview

You’ll study topics like:

You’ll also have the opportunity to choose optional modules like Simulation, Quantitative Methods, or Service Innovation Management.

Semester 2 overview

Optional modules in semester two include topics like integrated logistics, corporate social responsibility and digital business. 

Your dissertation and related project takes place in semester two and will enable you to gain an in-depth understanding in a chosen area and hone your research and general transferable skills. 

Students who do not wish to undertake their project with an industrial partner may choose to base their dissertation on their own research topic under supervision of an academic supervisor.

Dissertation

Your dissertation offers you the opportunity for an industrial placement. You can arrange this yourself, in consultation with a suitable academic supervisor. Alternatively, you can bid for placements that are organised by the University.

The dissertation project will be undertaken during the summer months after completion of the taught components. The set of available projects is typically announced during the second semester, and students will provide a shortlist of their preferred projects.

Students who are unsuccessful in bidding for an industrial project offered by the University can alternatively base their dissertation on a project proposed by an academic supervisor or their own research project directed by an academic supervisor.

Academic Support

In addition to the scheduled compulsory and optional modules of the programme, you will benefit from access to industrial managers’ insight and support via the University’s Centre for Operational Research, Management Science, and Information Systems (CORMSIS) and the Centre for Applied Science in Project Management (CentasPM).

This includes attendance of practitioner talks organised at the University, and the opportunity to participate in the CORMSIS mentoring scheme in which a manager from a firm may help you towards future job application success.

CentasPM and CORMSIS also typically organise company visits or attendance to certain relevant job fairs. Details of these specific additional features of the programme vary from year on year.

Since high School, it has been my dream to contribute not only in the matters national economy but also in the international economy. In my guest to realize this dream, I worked extremely hard to achieve my dream and be among the people contributing to both the global and national economy. In high school I realized that my passion lied in the Supply Chain Management field and from then I dreamt of working hard to mitigate most of the problems that are associated with global Supply Chain Management.

Some of the challenges associated with the Global Supply Chain Management include; globalization of the operations involved in the manufacturing process, ensuring quality and safety of the products, ensuring short lead time, small inventories and enhanced throughput, ensuring consolidation of supplier base, ensuring access to modern technology in the using it for the purpose of improvement of the supply chain services, meeting global customer tests and preferences and ensuring market growth(Lambert et al 15). Being a professional in the field of supply chain management, I will ensure that I be fruitful by providing solutions to these problems facing Global Supply Chain Management.

Some of the solutions I will offer to these problems include; To resolve the challenge of product safety and security, I will ensure that the different manufacturers use the right raw materials that will ensure that not only high quality products are produced but also secure products which are fit for human consumption.

On the other hand, to resolve the challenge of globalization of manufacturing operation, I will ensure that I come up with guidelines that will ensure that the different manufacturing operations by different manufacturing industries meet the global standards. I will use my know how to initiate automatic order placement among other solutions to resolve the challenge of supplier base consolidation.

If given the opportunity, I promise to be a good student by adhering to the laws and regulations of your institution. In addition, I promise to work hard and be a solution provider for the different problems affecting the field of supply chain management.

Through your six core modules, you will gain an understanding of key areas such as business strategy, supply chain management, logistics, procurement, supply chain analytics and applied corporate finance. These modules will raise your awareness of the critical issues related to managing international operations and solving related problems. They will enhance your capabilities in sourcing and managing suppliers while measuring performance. You will also select one optional module which will allow you to tailor your learning towards your interests and career plans, these are covered in more detail below. Toward the end of your course, you will do a project in a supply chain management area of your choice using the knowledge and skills that you have gained.

Operations and Supply Chain Management (30 credits) - Compulsory

This module provides you with a comprehensive understanding of key principles and techniques of global operations and global supply chain management and how organisations match demand with demand. You'll develop critical and analytical insights into current operations and supply chain management practices, explore the relevant trade-offs and techniques to address ever changing demand and employ knowledge to the design, operation, control and improvement of business processes.

Strategic Leadership (15 credits) - Compulsory

This module will inform you of the key developments in, and thinking from, the study of strategy and leadership. You'll explore the models, tools and theories used in strategy and leadership and critically appraise where and when such models, tools and theories are effective. The central aim of the module is to achieve a balance between theory and practice and to use strategy and leadership tools to address the complexity and uncertainty facing organisation.

Procurement (15 credits) - Compulsory

This module aims to develop your understanding of procurement from a strategic, technological, business process and relationship perspective. This module will provide special emphasis towards negotiation and educate participants on various negotiation strategies.

Supply Chain Analytics (15 credits) - Compulsory

This module allows you to explore the major concepts, models, tools, and metrics used in management analytics for overseeing management of supply chain. Specifically, in the first part of the module you'll be equipped with building blocks of supply chain analytics. In the second part, you'll gain fundamental machine learning concepts and techniques, which are most applicable to management research.

International Logistics Management (15 credits) - Compulsory

Logistics is the lifeline of any business which encompasses all activities from receipt of customer orders to delivery of goods at their doorstep. An organisation could have the highest brand equity, the most desirable products, and the best people but it could still fail if its logistics infrastructure and systems are not adequate. You'll gain an understanding of all key areas within logistics from an international perspective.

Applied Corporate Finance (15 credits) - Compulsory

This module will develop your understanding of the major issues in corporate finance. In particular, you'll develop your ability to analyse corporate finance issues, apply finance theories to deal with practical issues in corporate finance, and investigate emerging issues and contemporary trends in the field.

Enterprise Systems and Supply Chain Planning (15 credits) - Optional

The module will introduce the role of Enterprise Applications in Supply Chain planning and control processes. You'll not only develop a better understanding of the theory behind these processes, but also gain hands-on experience of these processes with SAP©, a leading enterprise resource planning software package, resulting in the requisite practical skills as well.

Innovations Management (15 credits) - Optional

This module will allow you to develop a systematic understanding of the role of innovation as a key factor in a dynamic business environment and to equip you with the knowledge, expertise and skills needed to manage the innovation process at both strategic and operational level. The module provides an up-to-date overview of the mainstream theories and models of innovation and illustrates successful organisational practices through case study analysis.

Managing Projects (15 credits) - Optional (15 Credits) - Optional

This module introduces you to the project management techniques and how they are used across a range of sectors to realise strategic corporate objectives. In particular, the module aims to offer a comprehensive account of project management, programme management and project portfolios, based on a combination of scholarly work and professional practice. You'll develop your understanding of strategic project management and systems design processes.  The module will also introduce and evaluate critical success factors for projects, and you'll learn to outline and develop skills in professional techniques used in project closure and evaluation.

Global Supply Chain Management Project (60 credits) - Compulsory

This module provides you with a means of furthering your skills and knowledge gained on the programme, by applying it to a specific organisational issue or problem. You'll be enabled to demonstrate proficiency in the design of a business enhancement project, application of appropriate methods of investigation, management of the change process, and maintenance of vision in the face of the vicissitudes of business realities.

How we'll teach you

Coursework and assessments.

We aim to model a wide range of teaching strategies and approaches on the course which you can adapt to your own setting.

The course is delivered by our academics and industry partners in person and via digital platforms. Our learning activities include lectures – including talks by guest speakers – presentations, workshops seminars webinars, one-to-one tutorials and group projects.

You'll be taught by an experienced teaching team with a wide range of expertise and professional experience. Your personal tutor will support you with help and advice throughout your studies.

Teaching vs independent learning

In a typical year, you’ll spend about 1200 hours on your course.

Outside of teaching hours, you’ll learn independently through reading articles and books, working on projects, undertaking research, and preparing for assessments including coursework and presentations.

Whether you are studying full or part-time – your course timetable will balance your study commitments on campus with time for work, life commitments and independent study. We aim to make your timetable available at least 2 weeks before the start of term. Some weeks are different due to how we schedule classes and arrange on-campus sessions.

Typical weekly breakdown

Your timetable will be built around on-campus sessions using our professional facilities, with online sessions for some activities where it will add value. We’ll use technology to enhance all of your learning and give you access to online resources to use in your own time.

If you choose to embed yourself in an organisation during your final project, there may be additional placement hours.

Learning terms

On-campus:   This includes tutor-led sessions such as seminars, lab sessions and demonstrations as well as student-led sessions for work in small groups.

Online learning:   This is teaching that is delivered online using tools like Skype or Zoom, as well as work that you do yourself using online teaching resources.

Independent study:   This is the work you do in your own time including reading and research.

Part-time study

Students do the modules with full-time students, but across two years

The distribution of modules is as follows:

• Three core modules worth 60 credits in the first year
• Three core and one optional and the project module worth 120 credits in the second year

As a student, you can write to the course leader for more clarity.

Academic support

We have a strong support network online and on campus to help you develop your academic skills. We offer one-to-one and group sessions to develop your learning skills together with academic support from our library, IT teams and learning experts.

The main modes of assessment on this course are a combination of exams plus individual coursework. You'll receive regular feedback on your coursework and the dissertation project is a key element of the assessed work you will undertake.

You'll evaluate your work, skills and knowledge and identify areas for improvement. Sometimes you'll work in groups and assess each other's progress.

Each term, you'll get regular feedback on your learning.

For this course, ideally, we are looking for these qualifications:

• A 2:2 honours degree or above and two or more years of relevant business experience
• Graduate-level professional qualifications which demonstrate you can work at a postgraduate level.

You won’t be required to attend an interview.

Changes to the Immigration Rules introduced in January 2018 now allows international applicants to apply for Student route (formerly tier 4) visas for part-time postgraduate study (courses leading to a qualification at RQF level 7 or SCQF level 11 and above).

Student route visa students studying part-time are subject to certain restrictions:

• No work (paid or unpaid)
• No work placements as part of the programme
• No dependants
• No extending under Student route visa in the UK. This includes Student route visa applications to work as a Students' Union Sabbatical Officer or for the Foundation Programme for postgraduate doctors and dentists
• Not eligible for the Student route visa Doctorate Extension Scheme.

*Please note that, if the course of your choice involves work experience, unpaid work, placements or internships, we will be unable to sponsor you to study a part-time course under the Student route (formerly tier 4) visa.
