Ph.D Reproductive Biology at AIIMS Delhi Offline Course

Ph.D Reproductive Biology duration of the course shall be the time period from registration to submission of thesis. The minimum period of registration in respect of all the candidates who are registered for Ph.D. shall be three years. The maximum period of registration shall not exceed five years. Extension beyond the period of 5 years can be given for a maximum period of 6 months on the recommendation of Dean Committee and final approval by Dean/Director.

Eligibility Criteria

A: Fellowship seats available in the project (FA) Candidates with or without Own Fellowship can apply:

• M.Sc. (Reproductive Biology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Life Sciences or MBBS or Master in Veterinary Science

B: Own Government Fellowship seats (OF) only those candidates who have their Own Fellowship or In-service candidates (as indicated) from a Government Organization can apply:

• M.Sc. Reproductive Biology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Life Sciences or MBBS or Master in Veterinary Sciences.

Admission Details

Selection for Ph.D. registration will be through a three-stage performance evaluation as under:

(I) Medical / Dental/Nursing candidates:

Stage I: 30 Marks (30 MCQs of 1 Mark each) Aptitude related MCQs covering English (Written and verbal skills), Biostatistics, Research Methodology, Cell Biology, Lab Technology etc.

Stage II: 40 Marks (40 MCQs of 1 Mark each) Subject related theory based comprising Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of MD/MS/MDS/M.Sc. Entrance level. Total Marks (Stage I + II): 70 (30+40) Total Duration (Stage I + II): 90 Minutes

Candidates must score at least 35 marks in stages I and II (combined) to be eligible for stage III. Candidates who do not fulfill the criteria to qualify for stage III will not be eligible for selection. B: The Special Weightage of 10 marks will be added to the total score of Stages I and II for candidates who fulfill both the following criteria: (1) they are eligible for stage III; and (2) they also hold a Medical Degree (MBBS/ BDS/ MDS/ DNB/ MD/ MS/ DM/ M.Ch.) or M.Sc. (Nursing) or equivalent.

Stage III: From the list detailed in section B above, 3 times as many candidates as the number of seats advertised will be called for departmental clinical/practical/lab based assessment (carrying 20 marks). These marks will be added to the marks of stages I + II + special weightage to determine the final merit.

(II) Non-Medical candidates:

Stage I: 30 Marks (30 MCQs of 1 Mark each) Aptitude related MCQs covering English (Written and verbal skills), Biostatistics, Research Methodology, Cell Biology, Lab technology etc.

Stage III: From the list detailed in section B above, 3 times as many candidates as the number of seats advertised will be called for departmental clinical/practical/lab based assessment (carrying 20 marks). These marks will be added to the marks of stages I + II + special weightage to determine the final merit.

Matching with the Institute philosophy of integrated approach to the modern areas of science and technology, the Department of Biological Sciences at the BITS Pilani was formed by merging the existing Botany and Zoology Department in the year 1969. Since then the Department is engaged in providing the quality education to the selected students and contributing to the field of modern biology by the adequate research input. Drawing manpower from Biology, Pharmacy, Chemistry and Computer Science Departments, the institute created Centre for Biotechnology. The centre was formally launched in the year 1999 with the active fund support and technical expertise from Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland, USA. Currently the Department is offering M.Sc.(Hons) Biological Sciences, M.E.(Biotech) and Ph.D Programmes

The department offers a full time Ph.D. programme in the following thrust areas of its research.

• Molecular Parasitology
• M.Sc. (Physics) or Equivalent Degree with a minimum of 60% marks.
• Shortlisted Candidates will be called for a written test which will be followed by an interview.
• Candidates who have cleared the CSIR-JRF will be exempted from the written test.
• Candidates working in reputed Govt. and Private organizations can apply for a part time PhD program.
• Monthly Institute Fellowship of Rs. 28,000 (if M.Sc. or EquivalentDegree) will be provided initially to the full-time PhD students which will be enhanced from time to time subject to performance.
• Full-time PhD students admitted into the PhD program are eligible to be considered for an Institute fellowship of Rs. 28,000 or Rs. 31,000 per month in the first year based on their qualifications at the time of admission.
• Students admitted with M.E./M.Tech./M.Pharm./MBA/M.Phil. or an equivalent Degree are eligible to receive an Institute fellowship of Rs. 31,000/-.
• Students admitted with M.Sc./B.E./B.Pharm. or an equivalent degree are eligible to receive an Institute fellowship of Rs. 28,000/-. These students on successful completion of coursework will receive Rs. 31,000/- from the Semester following the one in which the course work was completed.
• Higher fellowship may be made available in subsequent years. Consideration for Institute fellowship will be as per Institute norms. It will be obligatory on the part of every admitted Full time student to undertake 8 to 10 hours (per week) of work as assigned to him/her by the institute.

Reproductive and Developmental Biology

Newly introduced, full-time, 2-year (4 semesters) postgraduate program that offers in-depth training in diverse areas of mammalian development such as reproductive physiology, embryogenesis, implantation, contraception, reproductive toxicology, and teratology. The course involves interactive lectures, group discussions, open electives, one-to-one training, exposure to cutting-edge techniques, journal discussions, and regular interactions with eminent scientists of international repute. Students also have the opportunity to experience cutting-edge research on the fundamental aspects of developmental biology. Industry academia partnership allows students to avail of internship opportunities that will prepare them to take up cutting-edge industry-oriented research. The candidates will have a variety of next-step destinations such as higher studies for doctoral degree (Ph.D.), a scientific officer in industries/pharmaceutical companies/R&D laboratories, or academic positions. Campus selection will be organized to provide enough placement opportunities to students. Candidates with the following qualifications are eligible for enrollment for Ph.D courses of this University, under the following faculties.

Applications are invited bi-annually (around the months of April – May & October – November) on dates to be notified by the university. A candidate may apply for admission to Ph.D to the Registrar, RGUHS in the prescribed application form obtainable from the University following newspaper/website notification. The selection process will take place by the end of month of June & December every year. Selected candidates will be granted provisional registration, for the Ph.D course 1st session commencing from 1st July of same year & 2nd session commencing from 1st January of next year. NOTE: Candidates have to submit the RGUHS affiliation order recognizing the department as Ph.D centre along with the prescribed application form

VIT University

External part-time candidates: Teachers working in other colleges in a permanent position and candidates sponsored by R & D organisations, National laboratories and Industries having R & D facilities recognized by DSIR, with requisite minimum qualifications can work on part time basis for Ph.D degree but they should apply in the prescribed form on or before the specified dates, to be announced normally once every year.

Ph.D in Sciences / Languages : Master’s degree with a minimum 60% in sciences

• Out of the applications received, the School / Centers will short-list the candidates to be called for written and test / interview to be conducted at the institute on a pre-announced date.
• Selection will be based on the overall merit index of the candidate which will be arrived at by taking into account the candidate’s performance in the previous university examinations at Bachelor’s and Master’s level and the performance in the written test and / the interview. hvy Page 2 of 13 The weightages for arriving at the overall merit index will be as follows: Bachelor’s degree – 20 % Master’s degree – 20 % Written test and / Interview – 60 % Candidates qualified in CSIR-UGC NET for JRF may be exempted from the written test requirement.
