Job Description

The lab of Dr. Sharon Swanger, Ph.D. is seeking a responsible and well-organized Part Time Research Assistant who can support research activities in the laboratory. The projects in Dr. Swanger’s lab elucidate the localization, function, and therapeutic potential for diverse neurotransmitter receptor populations in the brain. This work involves applying a combination of pharmacology, physiology, molecular biology, and cellular imaging to study neural circuits in the healthy mouse brain and mouse models of epilepsy. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented person who enjoys interacting with others, being a key part of a diverse and active scientific environment and managing multiple project duties. The successful applicant will have enthusiasm for neuroscience research and a desire to succeed in a fast-paced research environment.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated organizational skills or experience with data management. • Desire to succeed in a fast-paced research environment with multiple duties. • Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills. • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working towards BA/BS in biology, neuroscience, or related field, and/or the equivalent level of training and experience • Experience with basic laboratory protocols including data collection and data management.

Part-Time Research Assistant

Faculty of Integrated Technologies is conducting research on “ Carbon Capture and Storage facilitated with Supercritical CO 2 enhanced natural gas recovery” and seeks to hire a part-time Research Assistant for a period of 3 months starting from 1 st   June, 2024 .

We seek a candidate with adequate knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Previously studied Molecular Thermodynamics
  • Experience with Molecular Simulations
  • Good computing skills
  • Demonstrated manuscript and/or report writing skills

to conduct a thorough literature survey on the geological sequestration of CO 2 in shale rocks and carry out calculations using molecular simulations techniques.

Minimum requirements:

  • Masters and/or Bachelor’s degree in engineering / chemistry / materials science / or a closely related field. Applications from candidates who are in their final year of their studies in the aforementioned programmes will also be accepted.
  • Previous experience with running force field based Molecular Dynamics and/or Monte Carlo simulations.

Purpose of Position

  • Assist in daily student employment processes and operation of student employment recruitment application 
  • Assistance with student outreach initiatives Work with UND and outside agencies to develop and update resources for supervisors and students
  • Complete duties & research within HR/Payroll focus Assist with planning and execution of HR & Payroll events Complete additional tasks as requested - (Essential)

The mission of the University of Michigan Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) is to catalyze, support, and safeguard U-M research. OVPR is seeking an assistant vice president for research-strategic initiatives (AVP). We are looking for someone who can help the U-M research community more effectively identify and seize opportunities to produce and conduct high-impact research. The AVP will work with the Vice President and OVPR leadership to support, develop, lead, and evaluate cross campus projects, committees, and strategic engagements with internal/ external stakeholders and community partners to advance U-M's vital research mission. This position reports directly to the Vice President for Research and Innovation.

Responsibilities*

The ideal candidate will:

In partnership with the VPR and other leaders, develop, lead, and implement strategic initiatives that improve the competitiveness, impact, and accessibility of research at U-M.

Work with faculty and staff across all three campuses to identify strategic priorities, administer programs, develop and implement internal policies, and increase research competitiveness.

Help build new partnerships with key external stakeholders including academia, industry, foundations, and government.

Represents the U-M Office of Vice President for Research across campus serving as a key member on committees, task forces, and councils.

Generate and coordinate assignments, as needed. Work independently to complete assignments involving the appropriate internal or external contacts.

A Master's degree or equivalent is required

Outstanding writing and communication skills are required

Significant experience in a research environment, research-related government agency, research-related business or related academic settings is preferred

Demonstrated commitment to DE&I principles

Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse community of stakeholders

Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise teams and projects on behalf of executive leadership, including setting priorities and ensuring deliverables are met

Principal Responsibilities:

Lead implementation of the learning agenda by designing multi-stage research efforts, sourcing and managing agency partners through execution, analyzing and interpreting the learnings across multiple data sets, and providing recommendations and thought leadership to key stakeholders based on the findings. 

Work cross-functionally with brand, product, client marketing, and digital teams to develop communication and strategies that are grounded in deep consumer and competitive understanding.

Be a passionate advocate for your consumer Growth Segments in internal meetings and a driver of consumer insight-led actions across the enterprise.

Bring a consumer lens to our work every day as a "trend seeker” who’s able to add to discussions on consumer insights, cultural trends, etc. should be able to then apply insights to drive teams to action, inform creative briefs, drive integrated strategies that ultimately increase brand relevance and impact.

Monitor relevant consumer, brand and category trends specific to emerging dynamics: (e.g., Growing Wealth Transfer Trends; Impacts of Student Debt, Evolving CX expectations, etc.).

Track and maintain insight project budgets and billing.

Minimum Requirements

10+ years’ experience in consumer insights, strategy and/or consulting; Significant time supporting marketing strategy ideation sessions and client marketing experience. Experience in diversity & inclusivity marketing efforts preferred. Financial Services not a requirement.

Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, advertising, communications or related field. MBA or master’s degree strongly preferred.

A self-starter who’s able to self-direct the management and execution of projects from inception through completion – on target, on brand, on time, on budget.

Professionalism around research design, analysis and interpretation to deliver credible work free of bias.

A strong communicator both in written and verbal form

A strong collaborator, who is skilled at working with various levels and functions across an enterprise.
