Narrative Essay on Road Accident I Witnessed

Accidents on the road can be life-altering experiences, often leaving a lasting impact on those who witness them. One such incident that I witnessed a few years ago still lingers in my mind, a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of road safety. This essay recounts the details of that harrowing event, aiming to shed light on the consequences of negligence and the paramount importance of vigilance while on the road.

The Day of the Accident

It was a bright and sunny afternoon in mid-July. The streets were bustling with people, and the air was filled with the usual cacophony of honking cars, chattering pedestrians, and the distant hum of city life. I was on my way home from school, walking along the sidewalk, lost in thoughts of the day’s events and the homework that awaited me.

As I approached a busy intersection, the traffic light turned green, signaling for pedestrians to cross. I waited for a few seconds, allowing a car to pass before stepping onto the zebra crossing. What happened next unfolded in a matter of seconds but felt like an eternity. A speeding motorcycle, attempting to beat the red light, swerved into view. The rider, realizing too late that he couldn’t make it, attempted to brake but lost control.

The motorcycle skidded across the road, heading straight for a pedestrian about to reach the other side. In a desperate attempt to avoid a direct collision, the rider veered to the left but ended up crashing into a nearby car. The impact was so severe that the rider was thrown off his bike, landing several feet away, motionless.

The Immediate Aftermath

The scene that followed was one of chaos and panic. The sound of the crash had drawn the attention of everyone nearby. Pedestrians screamed, and drivers honked, creating a cacophony of noise. I stood frozen, my heart racing, as I processed what I had just witnessed.

Several people rushed towards the injured rider and the occupants of the car, trying to offer assistance. I remember the overwhelming sense of helplessness as I watched them dial emergency numbers, their voices urgent and shaky. The driver of the car, visibly shaken but uninjured, stepped out to check on the rider, who lay still on the pavement.

Within minutes, the wail of sirens filled the air as an ambulance and police cars arrived at the scene. The medical team quickly attended to the rider, who was fortunately still alive but seriously injured. The police cordoned off the area, redirecting traffic and starting their preliminary investigation into the cause of the accident.

Reflections on the Incident

As the adrenaline faded and I continued my journey home, the gravity of what I had witnessed began to sink in. It was a sobering reminder of how quickly a normal day could turn tragic due to a moment of carelessness. The rider’s decision to speed and beat the red light had not only endangered his life but also those of others around him.

This incident highlighted the critical importance of road safety measures, such as obeying traffic signals, wearing helmets, and driving within speed limits. It also underscored the unpredictable nature of road accidents and the need for both drivers and pedestrians to remain vigilant at all times.

In the days that followed, I found myself more cautious and aware of my surroundings while walking or riding in a vehicle. The accident served as a powerful lesson on the consequences of negligence on the road and the collective responsibility we share in preventing such tragedies.

The road accident I witnessed was a stark reminder of the thin line between life and death and the impact of our choices behind the wheel. It taught me the importance of road safety, not just as a set of rules to follow, but as a commitment to protecting ourselves and others. As we navigate the roads of life, let us do so with caution and care, mindful of the precious lives that depend on our vigilance and responsibility. This narrative serves as a call to action for all of us to prioritize safety and make our roads safer for everyone.

Once I was on my way back home from festive shopping when I witnessed a road accident. I was with my sister and it was around 6 o’ clock in the evening. In the middle of the road, we saw a crowd surrounding something. We weren’t quite sure what was happening as the first thought that came to our mind was that it was probably a quarrel between two men. However, when we reached the spot, we found out an accident had taken place.

Road Accident Prevention

We need to prevent road accidents to decrease the death rate. Every year thousands of people lose their lives to road accidents. Children must be taught from an early age about traffic rules. They must be taught the value of life and how they can safeguard it.

Moreover, the government must pass more stringent laws for people who disobey traffic rules. They must fine people heavily or take strict action when found guilty of breaking these laws irrespective of gender.

Similarly, parents must set an example for the younger ones by not using phones while driving. Also, they must always wear their helmets and seatbelts to avoid the chances of an accident.

Essay On A Tragic Accident

  • Post category: Essay
  • Reading time: 4 mins read

Accidents often occur when there is heavy traffic in a street. I once witnessed a tragic accident . It was during the peak hour in the evening.

A truck and a private car were involved in this accident. The truck came at full speed. It collided with a private car which was coming from the opposite direction. The windscreen of the car was smashed. The driver of the car was seriously hurt. He slumped forward on the steering wheel. He had become unconscious. He was bleeding profusely. His head was cut in several places. The jerk had made his head go clean through the windscreen. The people in the back seats of the car were also hurt, but not seriously. They had received minor injuries.

A crowd of people immediately surrounded the two vehicles. The driver of the truck opened the door of his vehicle, and tried to run away. The crowd gave chase, and managed to catch him. He was handed over to the police. Meanwhile the main victim, the driver of the car, of the accident was still unconscious. The police took charge of the situation. They took statements from all the onlookers. They prepared a case against the truck driver.

Then the victim was put into a police van, and admitted to the hospital. God alone knows whether the victim recovered or not. He must have lost quite a lot of blood. I think that the police should not waste so much time in attending to details before reaching the victims to the hospital first. This delay might end in a tragic loss of life.

Now that the victim had been removed from the scene of the accident, the crowd dispersed. They had no further interest in the case. Accidents are generally caused by careless driving. People should be taught to drive carefully. Then there will be fewer accidents.

Essay on Road Accident

Road accidents are an unfortunate reality of our lives. The daily news reports generally contain at least one incident of a road accident. Depending on the severity of the accident, the number of casualties and the damage done can be concerning. Road accidents cost a lot of lives and property damage. To avoid accidents, everyone should be more careful and vigilant on the streets. As a driver, one must be extra cautious because one mistake from the driver can cost the lives of innocent others.

The Road Accident That I Experienced

I remember the first road accident I witnessed. It had changed my perspective on life. I still remember the date and the day very intricately. It was the 20th of September 2016. I was returning home from tuition. My mother had come to pick me up. It was around 6 o'clock in the evening. When we reached the bus stand, we saw a huge crowd of people at a few feet of distance from the bus stop. There were men in the crowd who were screaming in the regional language.

At first, we couldn't understand what was going on. After a while of careful overhearing of the conversation of everyone near us, we could understand that there was an accident. So to get to the bottom of it we asked a shopkeeper what had  happened. He told us that indeed an accident took place a while ago. He then went on to give us a detailed event of what happened. According to him, a pedestrian was crossing the road. A passenger's bus had hit him. The man was left bleeding on the street. The people in the area then cornered the bus and assaulted the bus driver. The police were called to the scene. As for the pedestrian, when the police came over, they declared the man dead. However, as a formality, they sent him to the hospital but according to the shopkeeper, there is not much hope for a miracle.

This incident made me realize how fragile life is. It could very well have been me or my loved one instead of that man.  The man was not at fault as he was following the rules, but because of the ignorance of another careless man, he had to lose his life. This incident has left a scar on my mind which still bothers me at times.

Road accidents are a fairly tragic event that has dangerously increased in numbers nowadays. Today, there are more automobiles on the streets than ever. Some say that this increase in the number of automobiles is the reason the number of road accidents is increasing too. Some others say that people nowadays have become more careless, this leads to a higher number of accidents due to carelessness. Another problem that is very prevalent in India is the lack of civic sense in people. People in the cities of India do not strictly adhere to the traffic rules; some people also lack the basic road sense. On top of that, certain parts of the city have narrow roads. All these add up to increase road accidents.

Description of Road Accident:

Road accidents are scary for our lives. In recent times it has increased more. Every morning when you open a newspaper every second or third page will have news related to road accidents. The reason for increasing road accidents is due to the fact that people are buying more automobiles and have also become careless while driving vehicles.

Many a time we have seen that people are just avoiding following traffic rules. Especially in metropolitan cities, people are more careless while driving vehicles which ultimately lead to road accidents.

The foremost causes of road accidents in such metropolitan areas can be narrow roads and roads with potholes.

Thus a road accident damages the lives of life and material. People should be very careful while driving or walking on the road.

It is also seen that walking on the road is also equally dangerous because of heavy traffic it can also be harmful to the people walking on the road. Hence, such people should walk on the side of the road or walk on footpaths.

Road Accident Incident:

Once I was coming back from my office at that time when I witnessed a road accident. I was with my co-worker and it was around 6 o’clock in the evening. In the middle of the road, we saw a crowd surrounding something. We weren’t sure what was happening as the first thought that came to our mind was that it was probably a quarrel between two groups of people but then after reaching the spot, we found that an accident had taken place.

After talking with the people present there, we came to know that a man who was crossing the road met with an accident while crossing the road. A truck passing by hit him leaving him with serious injuries. The man was lying on the ground bleeding and people were calling for an ambulance, plus they also informed the police about the incident.

Subsequently, the police arrived and caught the driver of the truck as people had already taken a hold of the driver. During the investigation with the driver, the cops came to know that the driver was drunk and was driving the vehicle. Later on, cops detained him and took the injured person to the nearest hospital, and took a statement from the injured person. The driver was released later based on the statement given by the person. That incident made me realize how precious our lives are and we must be very careful when we are walking on the road, on foot, or driving a car.

  Prevention from Road Accidents:

There are some most important points that every person should keep in mind while driving or walking or crossing the road. These points are as follows:

Drive within the prescribed speed limit.

Don’t drink or smoke while driving.

Follow all the traffic rules as they are for our safety.

Never use mobile phones while driving a vehicle.

Always drive in the proper lane.

While riding a bike always wear a helmet.

Free A Fatal Accident Essay Sample

An accident is better defined as an unexpected occurrence, which is less predictable with no apparent or deliberate intent but its effects which are mostly negative being felt deeper. The negative aftermath of an accident is one which can be prevented if only one would by any chance have prior knowledge of the circumstances leading to the accident, because this is hardly achievable, accidents are defined as unpredictable external actions which have marked negative effects.

A Fatal Accident

Walking down the lane back home from school, I witnessed the most grotesque site in my whole life. It was Friday afternoon and the weekend was just around the corner, it had been a long day and I was slowly trudging back home when all of a sudden in a lightning flash, I heard sharp screeches from car wheels.

Shocked, I raised my head to have a look at what was happening, this is when I saw what I now wish I had never seen at all. A young girl slightly older than me and who was probably a house help was crossing the road when the highly speeding saloon car gave emergency brakes. The girl also shocked her life out, was unable to move either way and she stood astound in the middle of the road. The saloon car driver swerved right but most unluckily the girl did the same and when the driver swerved left, confused she again did the same.

I watched the gruesome sight helplessly unable to make something change for the positive, the car under that height of confusion knocked down the girl skinning her life out of her beautiful body. Blood ran down from the poor girl’s body and in fifteen minutes, the ambulance service got to the scene, the paramedics tried saving the girl’s life but to no avail, too sad she was already dead and gone.

This is a clear description of an unexpected occurrence which if anyone person would have had prior knowledge of the possibility of happening, proper measures would have been put in place to prevent such eventuality. Because none had knowledge of such occurrence, there was therefore no way of effectively preventing it, this I why it is referred to as an accident.

Car Accidents Causes and Effects Essay

Drunk driving, lack of driving experience, excessive self-confidence in personal driving skills, excessive speed.

Technical progress in the automotive industry has led to the fact that the car has ceased to be a luxury item today and is an indispensable attribute of most people’s lives. However, because of the interest in increasing vehicle capacity and the spread of machinery, more and more road accidents began to occur. The reasons for them are different, and the consequences of accidents also differ; therefore, it is possible to describe the most common causes of crashes on the roads and the effects that they have.

Drunk driving causes accidents quite often and the fact that many cases are fatal is sad. When sitting at the wheel in the state of alcohol intoxication, the driver puts at risk not only his or her life but also the lives of pedestrians and other road users. Laws against drunken drivers are toughened annually; nevertheless, it does not stop some people from violating them. Various cases of death through the fault of such drivers occur quite often, and the consequences of these disasters can be utterly unpredictable since drunk people often do not realize what they are doing when sitting at the wheel.

Those people who do not have much driving experience quite often become involuntary participants in road accidents. The consequences of crashes can be different: it can be both a minor damage to someone else’s vehicle and a serious disaster. The fact is that the lack of experience is often a severe problem in situations that require immediate solutions. The person who has spent many years at the wheel has a good chance of reacting to an unexpected obstacle and avoiding a crash. At the same time, an inexperienced driver can inadvertently provoke a traffic accident and become its culprit. Therefore, the less experienced the driver is, the higher the risk to get into a crash.

In addition to the lack of experience, excessive self-confidence in personal driving skills and disregard for simple safety rules can also become the causes of accidents. As a rule, it applies to those people who have been driving for a long time and believe that they do not need to worry about their lives. An unfastened seat belt, the absence of a fire extinguisher and other violations can lead to irreversible consequences, and not only the perpetrator of a road accident but also a pedestrian or other driver can suffer. It is important to remember that it is essential to be vigilant on the road and not to assume that a significant driving experience is a complete guarantee of safety. Sometimes, excessive self-confidence can lead to dangerous consequences.

One of the frequent causes of accidents is the excess of the speed limit. This violation is dangerous because the person driving at high speed can not respond timely to the threat that has arisen. In this case, the damage from the crash while driving fast will be significantly greater than that from slow driving. The effects of accidents caused by such violations can be severe, and it is crucial not to allow speeding.

Thus, the most common causes of accidents are drunk driving, the lack of driving experience or too much self-confidence, as well as speeding. The consequences of an accident can be extremely severe both for drivers themselves and for people around them. The compliance with traffic rules will help to avoid accidents and be safe.

Every day I read about accidents in the newspapers. But it was only yesterday that I had the misfortune of witnessing one. It was eight o’clock at night. I was returning home from the office in an auto-rickshaw. As we crossed the Green Park Red Light, a red Swift car speeded past us. It was racing ahead of us. Suddenly a man tried to run across the road. He miscalculated the speed of the red Swift. And before the car could apply breaks, the man was hit and thrown off the road. The car however speeded away. Luckily the man was not badly hurt. He was taken to the nearby doctor. After the first aid, he was sent home.

Essay on A Road Accident

Essay on An Accident I Have Seen ( 250 to 300 words )

An Accident you have Witnessed Accidents on the roads are a common occurrence these days. Some are killed. Many are injured or maimed. The increase in vehicles, poor condition of the roads, rash driving, and non-observance of traffic rules are responsible for the ever-increasing accidents. So it is important for us to learn to use the roads properly and safely.

Last week I witnessed a horrifying accident near my school . I shall never forget it for a long time. The road in front of my school is very narrow. It is always crowded particularly in the afternoons when school gets over. Sometimes a policeman is there to control the traffic but generally chaos reigns.

It was Monday. The school had just finished. The road was crowded as usual. The students were running across the road to get into buses and cars to go home. Just then I saw a boy run across the road. All of a sudden I heard a loud scream and the screech of brakes. The boy was knocked down by a car. He lost consciousness and there was the blood rushing out from a cut on his head. Soon a large crowd gathered around the boy. Someone in the crowd tied a bandage around the cut. The boy was rushed to a hospital. Many people surrounded the driver of the car and began abusing him. Fortunately, a policeman arrived and calmed things down. A case was registered and the driver was taken to the police station. Slowly the crowd started dispersing. Since that day I am careful in using the roads.

Tampines fatal accident: Man who helped victims said teen’s dad kept calling for her

tragic accident essay

SINGAPORE - The sarong-clad good Samaritan who helped victims and directed traffic after the fatal Tampines accident, which killed two people on April 22, said he is still haunted by flashbacks.

Mr Sheikh Imran Sheikh Ahmad, 40, especially remembers how Mr Muhammad Azril, the driver of a Honda Stream that had turned turtle, repeatedly cried out his daughter’s name while trapped in their car.

The girl, Afifah Munirah Muhammad Azril , 17, who had also been in the accident, died in hospital that day.

Madam Norzihan Juwahib, 57, a senior technician at pest control firm First Choice Pest Specialist, also died. She had been a passenger in the company’s van, which was one of the six vehicles involved in the crash.

Mr Imran, a property agent, spoke to The Straits Times on April 24 at the junction of Tampines Avenue 1 and Tampines Avenue 4, where the accident happened.

In several videos online, the father of five children, aged one to 12, could be seen directing traffic at the junction after the accident, clad in a long-sleeved grey shirt and a chequered sarong.

That day, Mr Imran had just taken three of his children to school in Braddell, and was driving back to his Tampines flat with his wife in the front passenger seat.

He was wearing a sarong, as that was his attire for his usual morning prayers, which he had done earlier before leaving home.

They were third in line at the junction when he heard a loud crash and saw smoke billowing in front.

He said: “We were shocked for about two seconds. I saw someone go up to the (overturned) car and try to open the door, but it didn’t budge. So I felt I needed to help.”

tragic accident essay

He parked his car by the side of the road and went forward, where he saw bystanders trying to help Mr Azril.

Said Mr Imran: “My first instinct was to give the person inside some air because I could see he was still moving. So I forced the door open, or whatever was left of the car, and I was asking (Mr Azril), ‘Are you okay? Can you move?’”

He said Mr Azril, who had a bloodshot eye, told him that he was in pain and that his daughter was in the car.

When Mr Imran saw a girl clad in a Temasek Junior College shirt lying motionless on the road, his heart sank.

He said Mr Azril could not see Afifah and kept calling her name.

He added: “The other bystanders and I decided not to tell him that was his daughter.

“I am a father, so I felt how he felt... when your daughter is gone like this, and you don’t know where she is and you can’t get out to see her.”

Mr Azril, a Police Coast Guard officer, was taking Afifah to a school event in their car when the crash happened. He suffered kidney- and spine-related injuries.

Five other people, including two 11-year-old boys, were also taken to hospital.

Afifah and Madam Norzihan were buried at Choa Chu Kang Muslim Cemetery on April 23, and their graves were just one plot apart.

As Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and police officers arrived at the accident scene, Mr Imran hauled debris away from the junction and helped to direct traffic.

The crash had caused a major traffic jam, with drivers honking and trying to cut across blocked-off lanes.

Mr Imran guided cars into the correct lanes.

He said: “When you’re driving and there’s an accident, you will look at the accident. I believe that can cause more accidents because you’re looking and don’t pay attention.”

He stayed at the scene for around 45 minutes before he went home, which is about a three-minute drive from the scene.

tragic accident essay

That afternoon, he had to compose himself before leaving home again to fetch his children from school.

He said: “It took me about 10 to 15 minutes before I could drive off, because I was just sitting and thinking this could have happened to anyone.

“Every time I drive past here, I can still hear the father’s (Mr Azril’s) words. It’s just very sad.”

As Mr Imran was speaking to ST, three of Madam Norzihan’s family members came to the accident site.

Gazing quietly at the 40 or so bouquets left by members of the public beside a board placed by the police appealing for witnesses, one of them said: “We’re just here to visit.”

The SCDF said on April 22 that several members of the public, including a nurse and two off-duty SCDF officers, helped the injured after the accident, and it will be commending them for their public spiritedness.

On April 24, one of the drivers of the vehicles involved in the accident, a 42-year-old man, was arrested for dangerous driving causing death after he was discharged from hospital.

On his decision to help, Mr Imran said: “Hopefully by doing so, in the future if there are any other accidents, people will not be afraid to step up.”

They went out of the room and brought me back tons of ice to get the swelling to go down before they can take x-rays but once they took my x-rays and they said they’ll have the results in 5-10 minutes and they wheeled me back to my room . In the room I was so nervous that I dislocated it or broke it . i was so scared that I did something like that. Then the doctor come in said bad news buddy you tore your acl and at the time I had no clue what my acl was so I was asking 1,000s of questions about it and he said I will have to see a special doctor to see if I need surgery.

But before we lefted they gave me crutches and a immobilizer for my knee. Then gave us the date to go see the special doctor. When we get to the doctor appointment with Dr. Burt , He take a long look at my knee then says it needs to be drained. When he says that I start to freak out because He pulls out a needle the size of a turkey bester and sticks it in the side of my balloon size knee and suck all the fluid an blood out of it.

After he did that I seriously thought I would be able to walk it was so releaving the pain just went totally away. The was no pressure in side my knee at all. Then once we finished that he take a look at the x-rays and he said I have torn my aclhe then said it could be corrected by physical therapy because he said it was a partial tear. then once I started physical therapy the therapist start touching and moving my knee around and it hurt really bad I was just shaking in fear because she was 6’5 .

When she messed with my knee I just wanted to cry but after going there for months it got better and better after about 3 months of therapy. I ended up okay. After the 3 months of intensive physical therapy. My knee healed and I was able to get back to bmxing and being my normal self by walking around and doing things for my self again. and that is my tragic experience taering my acl. The lesson I learned was Not to try thing I am not comfortable with.
