The most obvious reason everyone is aware of is the increased risk of developing obesity. Sometimes, being overweight is caused by health problems or psychological issues. However, much more often, becoming overweight is evoked by dysfunctional eating habits and the regular consumption of fast food. According to research, people eating fast food regularly develop much higher risks of gaining extra weight. They are also more likely to develop type 2 diabetes. Unfortunately, not only adults are exposed to these risks–teenagers and children are also under threat. Throughout the last 30 years, the rates of adolescent obesity have tripled. For children, this index has doubled over the same period of time. This might be related to sophisticated advertising, but facts remain facts: fast food leads to obesity, and all age groups are at risk ( Lifehack ).

Unlike organic food, which is by default created from pure, natural ingredients, fast food often has a bunch of dubious ingredients in it. To start with, all kinds of flavor enhancers are added into it so that it tastes and smells better. Conservatives and food preservatives may be used as well–in particular, tertiary butylhydroquinone, which is made from similar ingredients as petroleum. As if this was not enough, fast food may contain the remainders of drugs and antibiotics. How do they get in there? The good news is that fast food does contain real meat. The bad news is that animals are kept in such awful conditions that they often suffer from a number of diseases. To deal with this problem, fast food manufacturers may add antibiotics to animals’ nutrition–later, they can get into your body when you eat your next chicken burger ( SheKnows ).

Along with the risks of developing obesity and pumping your body with doubtful chemicals, eating fast food often means exposing almost every organ of your body to dangers. For example, it becomes much easier to get kidney diseases: because fast food is often salty and greasy, it increases blood pressure, makes you want to drink all kinds of soda drinks (which are unhealthy in their own way), and affects kidneys adversely. Besides, due to high amounts of cholesterol and triglyceride contained in fast food, your cardiovascular system suffers as well. This is not to mention the fact that processed fats in fries and other junk food, when supplied to the brain instead of nutrition, affect cognitive abilities in a negative way. In particular, according to research conducted on rats, a week of daily fast food consumption caused memory impairment in test subjects. And, as if this was not enough, junk food increases your chances to get cancer ( Beauty and Tips ).

As it can be seen, cheap and tasty food is not what your body needs. To start with, when eating fast food regularly, you put yourself (or your children, if you tolerate their fast food habits) at risk of developing obesity, and possibly type 2 diabetes. Some crucial organs of your body such as kidneys, heart, and brain, suffer from junk food immensely. And, if adverse health effects are not enough for you, think about preservatives, antibiotics, and other chemicals you stuff your body with when eating fast food.

Food is an important aspect of attaining good health because it provides nutrients to nourish the body. Types of foods include carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Consumption of these food types in proper amounts promotes health and improves overall well-being. Despite the numerous benefits of proper nutrition, many people prefer to consume fast food because it is inexpensive and tasty. Fast food is not recommended by health practitioners and nutritionists because it contains high amounts of calories that do not nourish the body. In the United States of America, health conditions such as diabetes and obesity are on the rise. One of the major contributing factors is the consumption of fast food. Common effects of consumption of fast food are ill health and weight problems. People should not eat fast food because it is unhealthy, contains too many unimportant calories (saturated fats and sugar), and promotes ill health.

Fast foods such as pizza, hot dogs, pitas, hamburgers, ice cream, and potato chips contain too many calories because of the fat and sugar they contain (Schloser, 2012). The recommended calorie intake for an average person is between 400 and 600 calories per meal. The caloric content of many fast foods exceeds that amount. For example, if one eats a KFC chicken pot pie and drinks a 300 ml Pepsi, they consume a total of 960 calories (Johansen, 2012). Some of the reasons why people eat fast food include convenience and lack of sufficient time to prepared meals at home. People with demanding jobs have little time to prepare food. On the other hand, they are sweet because they contain high amounts of sugar. The effects of consuming fast foods do not emerge overnight. They accumulate over time and manifest in the form of poor health and bad eating habits (Schloser, 2012). Fast food is not bad. However, the processing it undergoes adds unhealthy amounts of sugar, carbohydrates, fats, and salt. Poor nutrition, ill health, and weight gain are the major consequences of replacing nutritious food with fast food.

As mentioned earlier, consuming fast food is one of the contributing factors to poor health. The unhealthy calories in the food lead to weight gain, which is a risk factor for several chronic health problems (Johansen, 2012). Studies have shown that health problems such as diabetes, stroke, and heart disease can be associated with being overweight (Marotz, 2014). Fast food is dangerous because it is very difficult to determine the number of calories they consume. People usually underestimate the caloric content of certain foods. Consumption of fast food has also been associated with type 2 diabetes (Andrews, 2012). The human digestive system breaks down carbohydrates into sugar (glucose) to provide energy to the body. The release of glucose into the bloodstream stimulates the pancreas to release insulin to aid in transportation.

The consumption of high amounts of carbohydrates alters the normal insulin response in the body and causes a spike in blood sugar levels (Johansen, 2012). Frequent rises in blood sugar levels contribute to the development of health problems, including type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. The sugar contained in processed food supplies the body with extra calories that have low nutritional value (Andrews, 2012). These extra calories cause weight gain and obesity. Studies have shown that extra weight is a contributing factor to heart disease and stroke. Fast food contains trans fats that are so unhealthy that they have been banned in some countries (Johansen, 2012). The main health effects of trans fats include elevation of LDL cholesterol levels and lowering of HDL cholesterol levels (Johansen, 2012). In that regard, they increase the risk of type 2 diabetes. Fast food contains high quantities of sodium that increase blood pressure. Too much sodium results in the buildup of fluids in individuals with kidney disease and liver cirrhosis (Andrews, 2012). In addition, it may increase the risk of developing stomach cancer, kidney stones, and kidney disease.

Proponents of fast food argue that it is convenient, cheap, and tasty. In addition, they argue that fast food meals save time, they are fun and entertaining, and they are quick to prepare and serve (Best, 2017). People who lack time to prepare meals to opt for fast food. They cite convenience and speed as the main reasons for avoiding healthier alternatives. Others argue that fast food saves money and offers numerous healthy alternatives. Healthy foods are more expensive when compared to fast food. On the other hand, people save time because there is no waiting time for food to be served in fast food joints (Schloser, 2012). This works for people in corporate America who get short lunch breaks. Finally, proponents argue that there are numerous healthy fast food options available. Therefore, it is possible to make healthy choices. The demands of today’s world make it difficult for people to prepare their own food or wait in restaurants to get served (Schloser, 2012). In that regard, they turn to fast food to save time.

The argument that fast food saves time and money might be correct. However, it is misguided because the consequences of consuming high calories of low nutritional value are serious. For instance, the cost of treating the health problems associated with fast food is very high. Therefore, saving time and developing diabetes or suffering heart disease is counterproductive. Fast food offers short-time benefits but causes long-term problems (Fenster, 2012). Fast food is fattening because of its high-calorie content. The majority of the people who eat fast food are unconscious of its negative health effects. Heart disease, type 2 diabetes, kidney problems, weight gain, and stroke are examples of common health problems associated with the consumption of fast food (Fenster, 2012). It is important for people to realize that fast food provides short-term satisfaction that causes long-term dissatisfaction.

Food is an important life component because it influences people’s health and overall wellbeing. Choosing the type of foods to eat is critical and includes incorporating carbohydrates, proteins, and fats into one’s diet. Fast food has increased in popularity among young people and adults because it is inexpensive, convenient, tasty, and time-saving. It offers a wide variety of meals for people’s enjoyment. However, studies have shown that it contains high amounts of unhealthy calories that lack nutritional value. Health problems that include obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and kidney problems have been associated with the consumption of fast food. The high amounts of sugar, sodium, and carbohydrates in fast food increase the risk of poor health. It is counterproductive to save time and money and at the same time predispose oneself to long-term health problems that can be easily avoided by eating healthy food.

This study examines the biochemical implication of monosodium glutamate; a food additive. Most of our lives are spent obtaining food, preparing food, cooking food, and taking the time to savor food. Food is colorful, flavorful and simply delightful. The simple solution for most working class people in the world: eating out. With such abundance of neighborhood fast-food restaurants or take out place at competing prices, eating out has become the latest trend in filling the stomach of many, people choose this alternative over the time and energy-consuming method of simply cooking their own meals. However, there are consequences to this alternative. Although we have the mindset of what unhealthy food is, sometimes ignorance is bliss, and a full stomach is all we need in order to continue with our day’s work. We constantly worry and monitor our fat and caloric content of what we eat; however, there may be many more important aspects that we should be worried about, for example, monosodium glutamate. Monosodium glutamate commonly known a MSG is added to almost every fast food meal we eat, as a food additive that enhances flavor. Majority of people pay no attention to it simply because they are either unaware of its presence in food or are unsure of what MSG really is. MSG may have more detrimental effects on the human body than simply being a food additive. So what exactly is MSG? why is added to foods? What are the effects on the human body? Is it harmful even though it plays important roles in the body? This study finds that, glutamate an important part of MSG is an excitatory molecule, and travels through ionic channel in the body like synapses, signalling molecules, and cellular receptors. An examination of disorders like parkinson’s, alzheimer’s and many others shows their relationship with dysfunctioning of different glutamate receptors in the central nervous system. Most of the health issues surrounding glutamate have to do with the health issues surrounding glutamate intake, whether too much of it is bad. It is therefore hoped that this study present a comprehensive explanation of this aspect of monosodium glutamate.

As an unique individual, biochemically and spiritually, it’s important to find what works best for you. When you know the basics, you can seek out and find what foods, including amounts and combinations, work best for your individual body. It’s vital to experiment to find the right combination of food, exercise and spiritual nurturing so you not only feel great, you are the best, most dazzling version of you. Empowerment through knowledge will allow you to find your own way to a life of vibrant health and a trim, healthy body. Awareness of good nutrition is freedom from fad diets, counting calories and points, reading unhelpful nutritional labels and from confusion over misleading nutritional information in the media. Changing what you know and the way you eat and treat your mind, body and spirit will transform your life.

Fast foods have invaded our kitchen and living room. They have changed our eating habits and made us prone to developing several health problems. I certainly agree with the argument that fast foods have a negative impact on our health and on the environment.

To start with, fast foods cause several health problems. They are rich in calories and make us obese. Regular consumption of fast foods leads to several health problems including diabetes, heart trouble and liver damage.

Most people who consume packaged food products are actually aware of their health consequences; still they can’t resist the temptation to eat them. There are several reasons to this. First, fast foods taste better. They use several ingredients that make us addicted to them. Second, fast foods are readily available. It takes hours to cook a meal. Today, most of us lead busy lives that leave us with little time to cook or clean. As a result, we are often compelled to buy fast foods even though we are aware of their health consequences.

Fast foods have a negative impact on the environment as well. The junk food industry uses plastic for packaging. The environmental consequences of plastic are well-known. Each year tons of plastic end up in landfills. It spoils the soil and clogs the drains.

Eating habits of families have also changed due to the adoption of fast foods. Parents and children munching on packaged foods sitting in front of a television is now a common sight. Gone are the days when families used to sit around a table to enjoy a meal.

To conclude, fast foods have a negative impact on almost all aspects of our life and the environment. In my opinion, it is high time we expelled them from our lives.

Nowadays, the trend of eating junk food is catching up with every teenager. Most teenagers love junk food because it is quickly cooked and delicious. Basically, junk food is sold in grocery stores or restaurants with precooked or preheated ingredients. Recent studies indicate that teenagers are consuming junk food at an alarming rate. Therefore, most junk food advertising is primarily focused on teenagers. However, many teenagers are not aware of the health effects of consuming junk food. The food in the picture is a good example of junk food. Such food looks nice, it tastes well, but is disastrous.

Junk Food Essay Introduction

Despite the consumption of junk food is popular, most of the teenagers know totally nothing regarding the health effects associated with the consumption of junk food. In most cases, they have trouble resisting the urge to taste the food when the shelves of grocery stores, commercials, and fast-food restaurants are overfilled with treats. Hence, it is important for a junk food essay to demonstrate the effects of eating junk food among teenagers.

This junk food essay will also look at ways of reducing the harms of junk food to teenagers. One possible way is to reduce the availability of junk food is informing about its effects at schools. It would be very beneficial if the consumption of junk food among teenagers would reduce at school because, typically, students spend most of their time there, interacting with their peers. It is through this interaction that they are swayed by their peers to eat junk food. And schools’ dining places usually have plenty of junk food for sale. During class breaks, teenagers swarm into dining halls to buy snacks or purchase them from vending machines. There are other possible ways to reduce the harms, such as schools offering nutrition class and grocery stores selling teenagers modified “junk food.”

The topic of junk food is very controversial. It elicits debate whenever it is mentioned. The argument against junk food gets most backing from health experts. This is primarily because they have conducted extensive research on the effects of junk food on teenagers; hence, they are justified in opposing the consumption of junk food. Additionally, parents have begun to realize the harms of teenagers’ eating habits; however, they do not have a good method to keep teenagers away from junk food. On the other hand, teenagers love eating junk food and they are largely affected by what their peers’ are doing. Even the images of fat people do not discourage them from eating junk food either at school, at home or at a restaurant.

The issue of junk food is thought-provoking and exciting because the majority of American teenagers consume junk food on a daily basis and seems to be not concerned with the negative health effects (Spurlock 195). Most of the diseases including heart attacks, high blood pressure, cancers, diabetes, and obesity have been closely associated with the consumption of junk food. Out of all these diseases, obesity takes a central role when it comes to the harmful effects of eating junk food among teenagers. Moreover, many teenagers eat junk food, oblivious to its harmful effects.

Not only that, these foods simply do not just promise to help save time and cost, but they simply provide good taste too. These are the common reasons why fast food are widely consumed from different walks in today’s fast-paced life. Fast foods simply provide advantages that are tantamount to resuscitating an individual from a hectic schedule, financial and economic needs and preferences on foods. However, it is important to consider that together with these advantages, there are also corresponding disadvantages associated with eating fast food.

These disadvantages are enough to stand as reasons why people should not eat fast food. These reasons are the following. According to Hales (149) many fast foods are high in salt, fats and calorie but with very low content of beneficial nutrients. Although a person’s body also requires salt, fats and calorie, there is only minimal amount of them which is needed by the body. For instance, the National Research Council (11) stated that the sodium requirement of the human body especially for adult ranges from 0.15 to 0.30 mg because the daily requirement per kilogram body weight is 0.002 to 0.004 mg.

Fats and calories on the other hand are necessary for the right body functioning but they must be in small amounts too (Hart and Grossman 66). Let us now build the very foundation of this argument. Freedman (14) reported that there is a strong association between eating fast food and the likelihood of acquiring obesity. This is supported by the claim of Lusted (33) based on a case study in which the respondent was able to gain around 11 kg in a 30-day experiment of eating consecutively McDonald’s foods.

Although this experiment would point out that obesity and fast food is a case of personal responsibility, it cannot be substantially denied that fast food can ultimately help a person gain considerable weight. After all, as stated earlier, fast foods
