Minimum Qualifications for admission to Part-time and Sponsored (full-time) PhD Programmes

The following eligibility conditions apply for the Part-time and sponsored full-time programmes.

Only employees of Public Sector Undertakings or Government Departments or Research and Development Organizations or Private Industries (approved by Faculty Boards) are eligible for admission to these programmes.

The minimum full-time experience required after obtaining the qualifying degree and as on date of registration, is given below in Table 2:

Minimum qualification for these candidates is the same as for full-time candidates, except that the requirement of qualifying in a national examination is waived.

For part-time candidates from outside NCR (or at a radial distance of more than 50 km from IIT Delhi), there is a minimum residency requirement of 6 months. DRC/CRC/SRC may specify a higher residency requirement based on the courses recommended as well as the background.

Sponsored (full-time) candidates seeking admission to a Ph.D. programme on the basis of study leave, must submit a “Sponsorship Certificate” on a proper letter head from the appropriate authority in the organization clearly stating the following:

Part-time candidates are required to submit a “No Objection Certificate” (NOC) on a proper letter head from the appropriate authority in the organization clearly stating the following:

he/she will be fully relieved from duty and permitted to reside at the Institute for the period of required residency that is essential for completing the course work (this is not a requirement for candidates who are working in NCR or organizations located within a distance of 50 km from the Institute);

that his/her official duties permit him/her to attend required classes as per the Time Table of IIT Delhi;

that his/her official duties permit him/her to devote sufficient time for research;

facilities for research in the candidate’s field of research are available at the candidate’s place of work, in case the proposed Ph. D. research plan requires him/her to use these facilities when the candidate is physically present at this place of work.

Ph.D Management Part Time at IIFT Delhi Offline Course

Course details.

• Ph.D. Management is a Part-Time research programme offered by Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi.
• Management (Part-Time) - General Management & Strategy - Marketing - Finance - Operations and Supply Chain Management - IT Innovation & Technology Management
• The Institute offers admission to Ph.D. Programme in Economics and Management and the doctoral thesis must be submitted within 5 years, from the date of admission. During the first year, selected scholars need to complete the coursework at the Institute covering two semesters. On successful completion of the coursework including Seminar Paper and approval of the proposed research topic (Synopsis Confirmation), a confirmation certificate will be issued along with the name of Ph.D. Supervisor. A three-member Doctoral Advisory Committee (DAC) will be set up for each scholar for his / her doctoral research. There is a minimum period of 2 years from the date of receiving the synopsis confirmation certificate after which the doctoral thesis can be submitted for external evaluation.

Eligibility Criteria

(a) Master’s degree/M.Phil. degree in any discipline (including IIFT MPIB) from a recognized university with at least 55% marks or CGPA equivalent to B Plus in aggregate.

Diploma courses which are considered equivalent to Master’s Degree (e.g., PGDIM from IIMs) with 55% marks or CGPA equivalent to B Plus, recognized by AICTE/UGC would be considered. In such cases candidates would be required to produce the necessary certificate(s) from Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

(b) A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50% may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ and differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the University Grants Commission (UGC) from time to time.

(c) In case of Part Time Programme: A minimum of three (3) years’ experience is required for the candidate from industry and one year experience is required for the candidate from teaching.

(d) Candidates who are in the final year of the Master’s degree are also eligible to apply. However, if selected, their admission will be on provisional basis. Admission of such candidates who joins the Ph.D. Programme on provisional basis but fails to obtain minimum percentage in the Master’s degree examination (as defined in (a) above) is liable to be cancelled forthwith. Such candidates should immediately inform the Institution on declaration of her / his results. Admission of candidates who do not inform the Institute of such situation will automatically stand cancelled on 8th October 2021. No request for extension of time for re-evaluation, etc. will be entertained.

Admission Details

A two-stage process is followed for admission to IIFT Ph.D. Programme (Management).

Stage I: All the eligible candidates will be called for the Written Entrance Test MCQ based comprising of Basic Statistics, Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation, basic Mathematics (upto 12th Standard), verbal ability.

Stage II: Candidates who qualify the Written Entrance Test will be called for the Interview*.

The Fellow Program in Management is the doctoral program of the International Management Institute (IMI) New Delhi. Applicant Eligibility:

The applicant seeking admission to the FPM at IMI New Delhi needs to be fulfilling the following Eligibility Criteria:

• Academic qualifications : To be considered for admission to the FPM at IMI New Delhi, the applicant must possess one of the following qualifications:

o   A Masters’ degree or its equivalent in any discipline with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks. Those in the final year of their post-graduation may also apply.

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent grade point average. Those in the final year of their engineering degree may also apply.

o  A Bachelor’s degree plus any professional qualification such as CA, ICWA, CS, and CFA with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.

• Universities & Affiliations: The above-mentioned qualifications will be considered valid for admission only if:
• The obtained qualification is from any of the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India, or other educational institutions established by an act of parliament or declared to be deemed as a university under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, or an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by AICTE.
• In case the candidate has a PGDM degree from an Indian Institution, the degree must be recognized as equivalent to MBA by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) or approved by AICTE.
• The degrees of candidates from foreign universities must be recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
• Additional Criteria for selection for part-time students: The candidate should have completed minimum FIVE years of full-time relevant work experience as an academician or a corporate executive.

Admission process

• Admission form & indication of research interest : The applicant needs to complete the FPM application form. The form must be accompanied by an abstract of 1000-1500 words about the proposed research area/topic. This may be broad based at this juncture but is critical for gauging the applicant’s interest.
• Admission test : the candidate must clear any of the following tests
• Common Admission Test (CAT) held by the IIMs.
• Additionally, in case the candidate has a valid GMAT/GRE/XAT/NET/GATE/NMAT score; he/she would also be eligible.
• Please note : the CAT/XAT/GMAT/GRE/NET/GATE/NMAT exam must have been taken on or after 01 January 2019  will be considered valid for admission to the session of 2024.
• IMI Research Aptitude test : In the event the applicant has not appeared for any of the above exams, the Institute also considers candidates who appear for the  IMI Research Aptitude Test.
• NRIs and foreign candidates, are also required to have a valid CAT/GMAT/GRE/XAT/NET/GATE/NMAT score or appear for the IMI  Research Aptitude Test.
• Admission Interview : Based on the:

o  Research abstract

o  Scores obtained in CAT/GMAT/GRE/XAT/NET or the IMI  Research Aptitude Test

o  Evaluation of past academic performance and

o  Relevant work experience (for Part-time students only)

The eligible candidates are invited for the final Admission Interview round and the final selection/merit list is prepared based on the above process.

Program Fee

The Program fee structure and the waivers and stipend available for different scholar categories are as follows

Fee Waivers & Other Financial Support:

FPM Full-time [FT] students: The participants are awarded the following waivers and financial support

• Tuition fee: 100% waiver of fee throughout the duration of program
• Learning Resource fee: 100% waiver throughout the duration of program
• Stipend:  Eligible candidates will be awarded a stipend of INR 65,000/- per month. This stipend would be valid for four years from the date of joining the program.
• Accommodation:  FPM [FT] scholars can request hostel accommodation. The accommodation is subject to availability and is provided free of cost to the FPM[FT] scholar. Mess charges are chargeable as per the prevailing mess charges (on actuals).
• Contingency Grant : The scholars would be eligible for a handsome total contingency grant of INR 90,000(@ 30000/- per annum). The grant would be available after the successful completion of the comprehensive examination. This grant may be used to cover incidental expenses like data collection, stationery, hardware/software and others.
• Conference support:  The institute also provides a cumulative grant of INR 1,50,000/- for presenting research papers at domestic and international conferences. The conference needs to fulfil the conference norms as laid down by the institute and is provided after the successful completion of the comprehensive examination.
• Additional conference support linked to research output : The scholar who publishes in superior quality Peer Reviewed Journals will get an additional conference support grant of INR 2,00,000/- for every such Peer Reviewed Journal publication (granted after the Final acceptance of the publication has been obtained).

Please note:  Superior quality is as determined by IMI New Delhi journal quality categorization standards. This is a quality categorization that is significantly superior to the minimum quality categorization required to complete degree requirements. The Paper must be co-authored with an IMI New Delhi Faculty and the scholar must ensure the publication is submitted with the IMI New Delhi affiliation.

FPM Part-time students (academicians):  The participants are awarded the following waivers:

• Tuition fee:  50% waiver of fee throughout the duration of program
• Learning Resource fee:  50% waiver throughout the duration of program  

  FPM Part-time students (corporate executives):  The participants must pay the fee as per the above schedule.

  FPM Program Structure & Other details

The FPM scholar (both full-time and part-time) is required to successfully complete two types of courses, in a duration of ONE YEAR:

PGDM courses: The FPM scholar will need to accumulate certain credits from PGDM management domain courses as recommended by their thesis supervisor/mentor.

FPM courses: The major learning for the FPM scholar will come from the FPM specific courses. The coursework is spread over one year and completed in four trimesters. These courses include a mix of CORE compulsory courses, AREA compulsory and elective courses.

Evaluations & promotions: For completion of the FPM Course work, an average of 60% or B- grade is required for passing FPM and PGDM courses. 

Comprehensive examination: On successful completion of the mandatory courses all FPM scholars would need to successfully clear a Comprehensive Examination- both Written and Oral.

Thesis Preparation and Submission:

Research proposal formulation and defense:  On the successful completion of comprehensive examination, the candidate is required to form a Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC) for guidance towards the final thesis. Under the guidance of TAC, the student would be required to develop a research proposal and defend it in an open forum comprising the IMI, New Delhi faculty and other doctoral students. Post this the scholar is to be working under the guidance of the TAC towards completion of his/her thesis work.

Thesis submission and defense:  Thereafter, on completion of the proposed research as well as the mandatory publication requirements of the thesis submission, the candidate would inform the Dean, Research & Accreditation of the same. Dean, Research & Accreditation, in consultation with TAC would recommend a Thesis Evaluation Committee (TEC) for the evaluation of the research work. The candidate would then be required to present a public seminar on the research findings. The candidate would be then evaluated by the TEC in an oral defense. After successfully defending the final thesis candidate is awarded the title of “Fellow of the International Management Institute, New Delhi”. PhD is considered as the highest qualification a candidate can accomplish. It is for those students or professionals who are very much interested in research work and wish to obtain a doctorate degree in their interest area. PhD programme can help the candidates in having a better career prospects and making them an expert in their research area. 

PhD programme can be pursued either full time or part time. Students or professionals who have an orientation for doing research work along with their ongoing assignments or jobs can opt for part time PhD Programme. There are some institutes that offer part-time PhD in Delhi-NCR , such as Jaypee Institute of Information Technology (JIIT).

Candidates interested in pursuing PhD programme have to apply for admission in JIIT. Interested students have to meet the minimum qualification criteria and follow the admission procedure. Candidates can then pursue PhD programme in the area of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering and Information Technology, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Physics and Materials Science Engineering, Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Management. Based on the interest area, supervisor is assigned to each selected candidate. These supervisors provide the able guidance, while monitoring and reviewing the progress of the students on regular basis.

In the beginning of the programme, students have to attend the course which further strengthens their research fundamentals and prepares them for research work. Students can take advantage of JIIT’s well equipped laboratories and Learning Resource Centre, which is well stocked with books and E-Resources. To attain this degree, students have to fulfil the criteria specified by JIIT. Attaining a PhD degree is certainly a lifetime achievement and will not only open the avenues for candidates in academic area, but it will also help in shaping a more promising and rewarding corporate/research career.

Research is an essential component of excellence in education and training. Research output has significant weightage in academic institutional ranking. All Schools and Centres in JNU are known for their excellence in research. Thus, ABV-SME also offers the Ph.D. Programme in various sub-areas of Management.

The fee for Ph.D. Programme is proposed to be Rs. 50,000 per Semester.

For successful completion of Ph.D. Programme, a student must earn a minimum of 16 credits during the 2 semesters as a part of course work. This is consistent with the UGC regulations.

The first two letters ‘PH’ define Ph.D. (in Management).

The first numeral stands for the type of the course: 1 for Compulsory course; 2 for Tool Course

The second digit stands for the number of credits assigned to the course

The third digit of the course number stands for the semester of course offering.

The last two digits refer to the specific course in the respective semester

A warm welcome to the modified and updated website of the Centre for East Asian Studies. The East Asian region has been at the forefront of several path-breaking changes since 1970s beginning with the redefining the development architecture with its State-led development model besides emerging as a major region in the global politics and a key hub of the sophisticated technologies. The Centre is one of the thirteen Centres of the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi that provides a holistic understanding of the region.

Initially, established as a Centre for Chinese and Japanese Studies, it subsequently grew to include Korean Studies as well. At present there are eight faculty members in the Centre. Several distinguished faculty who have now retired include the late Prof. Gargi Dutt, Prof. P.A.N. Murthy, Prof. G.P. Deshpande, Dr. Nranarayan Das, Prof. R.R. Krishnan and Prof. K.V. Kesavan. Besides, Dr. Madhu Bhalla served at the Centre in Chinese Studies Programme during 1994-2006. In addition, Ms. Kamlesh Jain and Dr. M. M. Kunju served the Centre as the Documentation Officers in Chinese and Japanese Studies respectively.

The academic curriculum covers both modern and contemporary facets of East Asia as each scholar specializes in an area of his/her interest in the region. The integrated course involves two semesters of classes at the M. Phil programme and a dissertation for the M. Phil and a thesis for Ph. D programme respectively. The central objective is to impart an interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of history, foreign policy, government and politics, society and culture and political economy of the respective areas. Students can explore new and emerging themes such as East Asian regionalism, the evolving East Asian Community, the rise of China, resurgence of Japan and the prospects for reunification of the Korean peninsula. Additionally, the Centre lays great emphasis on the building of language skills. The background of scholars includes mostly from the social science disciplines; History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, International Relations and language.

Several students of the centre have been recipients of prestigious research fellowships awarded by Japan Foundation, Mombusho (Ministry of Education, Government of Japan), Saburo Okita Memorial Fellowship, Nippon Foundation, Korea Foundation, Nehru Memorial Fellowship, and Fellowship from the Chinese and Taiwanese Governments. Besides, students from Japan receive fellowship from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.

Admission: (2023-2027):

The admission to DPM of IIM Rohtak is open to all Indian citizens, non-resident Indians, persons of Indian origin living abroad and other foreign citizens. Admission to the programme will be based on the academic qualifications, performance in the qualifying examination/tests, personal interviews and the work experience. The programme is a full time complete residential programme for a duration of four years.

Basic Eligibility Criteria:

The candidates should have at least one of the following qualifications:

• Post-Graduate degree or equivalent in any discipline with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA;
• Bachelor degree with at least 55% marks and Qualifications of CA, ICWA or CS.
• Bachelor degree with at least 55% marks and Qualifications of LLB degree.
• MBBS degree holders with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA + 12 months experience.
• 4-years/ 8 Semesters Bachelor’s degree, with at least 6.5 CGPA or equivalent marks + 12 months experience
• Five years Integrated Master’s Degree program in any discipline, with at least 55% marks

Those who are in the final year of their Master's Programme are also eligible to apply. Such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally only if they submit a certificate latest by May 31, 2023 from the Principal/Head of the Department/Registrar or Director of the university/institute (issued on or before May 31, 2023) stating that they have appeared for the examinations (including practical examinations) in all the subjects required for obtaining the Master's degree. Their admission will be confirmed only when they submit the mark sheets and a pass certificate of master's degree/equivalent qualification referred to in the certificate issued by the Principal/Registrar of their college/institute. The deadline for submission of mark sheet and the pass certificate is December 31, 2023. Please note that those candidates who have applied on the basis of their master’s degree will have to meet the minimum 55 % marks criteria and submit the final degree mark sheet/pass certificate. Non-fulfilment of these conditions will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.

Qualifying Examination:

• A candidate fulfilling the basic eligibility criteria should have a valid test score (not older than five years from the closing date of application) in any of the following tests mentioned for respective area:

* For Example relevant subject areas are: Commerce, Computer and applications, Economics, Labour welfare and personal relation, Mass communication and journalism, Mathematical sciences, Management, Political science, Psychology, Public administration, Tourism and travel management

• Candidates possessing PGDM/MBA of IIMs with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 out of 10 or equivalent will be eligible for interview process directly. Further, if they are selected, will be exempted from first year PGP courses.
• Non-Resident Indians, persons of Indian origin and other foreign citizens should have a valid GMAT/GRE score of not older than five years from the closing date of application.

Candidates with 2 years of academic experience and master degree or candidate with M.Phil. or Candidates with Master Degree with thesis in the relevant disciplines may directly appear for Research Aptitude Test (RAT) to be conducted by IIM Rohtak for shortlisting.

Research Aptitude Test (RAT)

IIM Rohtak RAT will test candidates on quantitative ability, verbal ability and research aptitude.

P e r sonal Interview:

The shortlisted candidates will be called for a personal interview. The candidates will be assessed for their intellectual capabilities, research aptitude and interest in the management discipline.

How to apply:

The online application form can be filled through following link on a payment of Rs 2200/- (for Indian Citizens) and $ 100 (for foreign citizens or NRIs) as registration charges. The printed application form along with all the documents to be submitted /sent through post to the institute after the online registration on or before March 25 , 2023. The required documents for the DPM application are mentioned in Annexure A-1.

•  One copy of filled up application form duly signed by the candidate.
•  Payment receipt of Rs. 2200/- with the application form.
•  One passport size color photograph same as uploaded in the online application. Write name and

  application number on the Backside of the photograph.

• Self-Attested copy of the following academic records.
• X / SSLC certificate.
• Pre-Degree/Plus-Two/HSC/VHSC Mark Sheet & Certificate.
• Graduation Mark sheets of all years & Certificate.
• Post-Graduation Mark Sheet of all years & Certificate (if Applicable).
• Provisional Certificate of Master Degree (for Master’s last term/year/ semester students).
• Category Certificate.
• Self-attested copy of Work Experience Certificate(s)
• Copy of the Score Card/Certificate of CAT/GMAT/GRE/GATE/ UGC-NET/PGDM/MBA-IIM.
• Self-attested copy of a valid Photo Identity proof (Passport/Driving License/PAN Card/AADHAR Card)
• Please enclose with this application any published or unpublished research work which you might have completed. You may give abstracts or summaries if the entire document cannot be sent.
• You are requested to attach duly signed sealed envelope containing letter of Recommendation which could be downloaded from website.
• The printed application form along with all the documents to be submitted/sent through post to the institute after the online registration.

Any disputes concerning admission for the DPM batch (2023-2027) would be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts within the territorial jurisdiction of the city of Rohtak only.
