Spring Break Packets For Elementary
We all know how important it is for our students to get a break from school. To relax and take their mind off of it and just enjoy being kids. Spring break is a great time to do this!
As important as the downtime is, it wouldn’t hurt for students to also get a little practice with those skills we’ve been working so hard on in class. In fact, parents are often asking for something for their children to work on while they’re out of school.
Naturally, with any break from school, there is a degree of regression. Studies actually show that students are more likely to score lower on tests after being on break than they are during school.
Assigning light but engaging activities during spring break can be the perfect way to keep their brains active while not in school and prevent that learning regression as much as possible.
The key is to assign work that is engaging and will get your students thinking, but won’t take up too much of their time.
When I was in the classroom, I would let the students know that it’s not mandatory, but if they complete it, they will get some sort of reward or prize when they return it to school. This could be a homework pass, treat, pizza party, or something similar.
I created Spring Break Packets for each elementary grade to help make it easy for you!

Spring Break Homework Packet
Speaking of spring break homework packet, I can’t believe how fast this year has flown by. The first day of school seems like just yesterday. I wasn’t planning on sending homework during break, but I had a lot of parents ask me to do so during parent-teacher conferences. I didn’t want to send anything too overwhelming. I sent home skills that I noticed my kids needed extra practice on.
You can print these off as a full page or copy them as a small booklet. I chose to make them into booklets to save paper. It worked perfectly! This packet includes a cover sheet for the packet with directions for parents and students. This will keep them right on track, and they will know exactly what to do every day 🙂
Math skills included in the spring break homework packet:
- double-digit addition with regrouping
- double-digit subtraction with regrouping
- Three-digit addition with regrouping
- Three-digit subtraction with regrouping
- word problems
- missing addends
My littles are having a hard time finding text evidence. So I created these nonfiction comprehension passages. They have just the right amount of information, and they’re able to complete it on their own. My kids had so much fun completing these; they enjoyed coloring the pictures and highlighting their evidence. They loved learning about spring and spring animals.
Comprehension Passages Included:
- All about Spring comprehension passage
- All about Butterflies comprehension passage
- All about Bees comprehension passage
- All about Frogs comprehension Passage
- All About Rabbits comprehension Passage
Writing Prompts:
- March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’ birthday. What is your favorite Dr. Seuss book, and why?
- What do you like about spring?
- What did you do over break?
- What is the difference between spring and summer?
- What is your favorite season, and why?

How to Use These Worksheets in Your Homeschool this Spring
This Spring Break activity can be used by children independently for fun in your homeschool classroom or they can be used as a supplement to your teaching. You could even use it with many children at once in a group setting to aid in group discussions.
Benefits of Using This Spring Break Worksheet Bundle
So why should you use this bundle with your kids? Here are a few good reasons:
- Vocabulary practice – Children learn by hearing and repeating. Words heard, spoken, and written continue to form deep brain development. Our vocabulary words practice sheets even provide a visualization with the appropriate picture to accompany the written word to continue the proper connected identification in brain development. Not to mention the handwriting practice!
- Critical thinking – Young children need prompting to think beyond the moment. Our sheets will present a few spring break topic prompts to help promote just that. They start with the visualization of their thoughts as they draw them out. Then the writing of those thoughts comes next to resolidify the visualization process.
- Motor skills and logical reasoning skills – We have a sheet where young learners can cut the anticipated pattern match. Not only are they forming logical reasoning in the pattern match but using fine motor control and bilateral coordination skills as they cut.
- Color coordination and precision – We have spring outdoor-themed color worksheets within our bundle. Coloring creativity is so freeing. Kids can just choose the colors they desire and go with it. But they are still learning. They are learning detail as they color within the lines with precision. Precision is a skill that is great to be nurtured during critical stages of childhood growth which will benefit them greatly in adulthood. Who knew coloring could be so important?

We also have Free Printable Spring Symmetry Pages for your homeschool use. This fun activity is great for a non-numbers math manipulative activity. Our symmetry pages allow the student to practice precision as they pay attention to detail while repeating what they see.

Spring is a season of new beginnings and fresh starts, making it the perfect time to infuse your 1st-grade classroom with some spring-themed ideas and activities. As the spring fever hits, I love incorporating some fun Spring classroom activities that fit in with our daily routines, but also add some extra engagement! Brighten up the day with these Spring math worksheets! Designed for first graders, these worksheets are perfect for morning work, independent work, or math folders. April Solve the Room
Solve the Room is one of our favorite math center routines in my first grade classroom! Each week, one of our math center tubs that students visit is Solve the Room.
I tape a new set of math task cards around the classroom. When students visit this center, they grab a clipboard and a recording sheet and walk around the classroom solving the math problems. After they finish, they visit the Grading Station and check their work! Read more about how I run math centers in first grade here!

Go On A Task Card Easter Egg Hunt!
Looking for a fun and engaging way to celebrate Easter while reinforcing math skills in the classroom? Consider going on a math task card Easter egg hunt! This is one of our favorite Spring classroom activities in 1st grade!
To set up this activity, simply print out math task cards, cut them out, and place them inside plastic Easter eggs. Then, hide the eggs around the classroom for students to find.
Students can open up the egg, solve the problem, and write the answer on their recording sheet! This activity encourages active learning and problem-solving and is a great way to add some Easter fun to your math curriculum!
You can use any task cards for this activity! Click here for the addition and subtraction word problem task cards that I used!
Earth Day Freebies
Earth Day is an excellent opportunity to teach children about the importance of protecting our planet and how they can make a difference. In our 1st grade classroom, we celebrate this occasion by reading books about the environment, discussing the three R’s (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle), and engaging in Earth Day activities. Here are a few fun Earth Day FREEBIES to use in your classroom! First, here are a couple No Prep Earth Day Printables! You can find them in my Differentiated Color by Code set and my No Prep Math pack , but I wanted to share these with you for free!
They are perfect for morning work or a partner activity this week.
If you’re looking for a fun Earth Day craft to do with your students, I included a couple options!
You can find all of the Earth Day freebies here!
April Numberless Word Problems
As I prepare to send students on to second grade, one of my goals is for students to be strong problem solvers. I found that Daily practice is essential for building our problem solving skills!
Students absolutely love these fun, seasonal story problems and are SO excited to see what happens in the new word problem each day.
Numberless Word Problems are an amazing tool for helping your students develop problem solving skills! PLUS they are an easy way to differentiate word problems to meet the needs of all of your students!
We use these numberless word problems as a daily math warm up.
- I display the problem (without numbers) on the smart board
- We read the problem together (usually I read first then we choral read)
- I give students think time and we go over the Problem Solving Questions (Poster Included)
- Students discuss with their math partner through a Turn and Talk
- We discuss what is happening in the problem and strategies that we could use to solve.
- Finally I switch to the slide with numbers in the problem and give students time to solve on dry erase boards or their student work page.
- Students share their strategies for solving.
Find the April Numberless Word Problem Pack here!

Free Spring Worksheets for 1st Grade
Spring is finally upon us, and what better way to celebrate its arrival than with free spring worksheets for 1st grade children? It’s been a while since I’ve posted on this blog, but I’m excited to share these fun and educational worksheets that are perfect for welcoming the season of new beginnings.
As you step outside, you can see, hear, and feel the signs of spring all around you. The birds are chirping in the backyard, the buds on the trees and bushes are starting to bloom, and the temperature is rising – all indicators that spring is almost here. I was inspired by this season to create worksheets that incorporate these early signs of spring. All the 12 pages are included in one PDF file, so you can print and use them as a workbook with a variety of activities such as maze, tracing, writing, and coloring.
I created these worksheets with care, and I hope you enjoy them. They are landscape-oriented and feature a variety of activities, including maze, tracing, writing, and coloring. I even used lines and backgrounds from my lined paper sold on Amazon to make them extra special.
The worksheets offer a lot of learning opportunities for your child, including recognizing early signs of spring and learning about spring weather.
What is included in Free Spring Worksheets for 1st Grade?
The first page of the worksheets is a big, capitalized sign “SPRING” with outlined letters to be colored. Around the sign are flowers and butterflies for children to color. On the second page, children can trace the names of the months during which spring occurs: March, April, May, and June. The third page features pictures of spring flowers and their names that children can trace.
Page four is a fun worksheet called “How many can you find?” where your child can count how many of each spring flower they see. Page five includes a maze where a bee is searching for a flower, and your child must help the bee find its way there. The sixth page is about tracing capital letters in the word “SPRING.” There are six lines on this page filled with traceable letters from the word “SPRING.”
One of my favorite pages is the seventh one, which children can use as their “Spring Signs Observation Journal.” On this worksheet, children should write their name, circle the day of observation, and draw a picture of what they saw outside that day. They should describe their observation of signs of spring by writing in the empty lines.
The eighth page is dedicated to learning about spring weather, featuring pictures of different types of weather with traceable names such as sunny, cloudy, rainy, partly cloudy, thunder, and windy. The ninth page is a sentence that reads “Grass is green, sky is blue, spring is coming soon!” Children should trace the sentence and then rewrite it in the three empty lines provided.
The next page is a coloring page with color-by-letter tulip pictures. On the eleventh page, children can learn about notable songbirds that arrive in the United States during the spring. The last page lists the first signs of spring, which can vary depending on where you are located, but some common indicators include warmer temperatures, melting snow, blooming flowers, return of migratory birds, and increased daylight.
Let me know what you think! 🙂
As a creator, I’ve never made worksheets like these before, so please let me know your thoughts and feedback in the comments section. These free spring worksheets for 1st grade are perfect for kids to learn about spring and have fun doing so. I hope they bring joy and inspiration to you and your child as you go for walks and enjoy this beautiful season. These free spring worksheets are designed specifically for 1st-grade children and can be printed and used as one complete workbook.
If you enjoy my work, please share it with others. By saving it to your board on Pinterest, you are giving me the opportunity to reach more people who, like you, are looking for free worksheets. There are many ways to support small businesses for free, and pinning the picture is one of them 🙂
Spring is a season of change, bringing with it the perfect mix of rain and sunshine. This unique combination often results in the breathtaking sight of rainbows stretching across the sky. Kids love rainbows, and what better way to engage their curiosity and creativity than with fun and educational worksheets? I have created a couple of worksheets all about rainbows for kids to enjoy . From coloring to tracing and more, these worksheets are a great way to teach children about the science and beauty of rainbows while having fun. Follow the link to download them for free and add them to your child’s spring activity list today!
