Our mission: to show God’s love by repairing homes in need, assisting youth in development, and empowering communities to care for each other. Home Works is a Christ-centered nonprofit organization providing home repair services to qualifying low-income homeowners while teaching volunteers skills in the process.

We have served the citizens of South Carolina since 1996, repairing more than 3,300 homes since our founding. We work to create a context in which volunteers can serve and build relationships with vulnerable homeowners in a context of transformation that yields personal, social, and environmental impact. At every Home Works repair session, construction meets compassion.

Organization Information

Mission statement.

Our Mission is to show God's love for all through service to others and to assist others in their faith journey. Home Works' activities focus on providing home repairs to homeowners in need, assisting youth in their development and empowering communities to meet the needs of its members.

Description

Home Works' activities will focus on providing home repairs to homeowners in need, assisting youth in their development and empowering communities to meet the needs of its members.

Home Works began in 1996 repairing homes of the elderly and disadvantaged with the targeted volunteer being a youth led by an adult mentor. The repair sessions are for safety and structure and last between one-day to one-week in length. We serve cities in GA, NC, SC and Zorritos, Peru. Homeowners must own their home in an area we serve and only have passive sources of income such as Social Security, Pension and Disability. Repairs range from building a wheelchair ramp, installing grab bars, repairing a leaking roof, painting, to plumbing and electric work. These repairs allow the homeowner to remain in their home as they age if they so desire and most importantly they are conveyed hope.

Since 1996, over 1,200 homes have been repaired by over 14,000 volunteers. Over 98% of every dollar received is spent on program expenses. As a result, Home Works has received the South Carolina Secretary of State's Angel Award.

Home Works welcomes Roy Kramer to team

homeworks columbia sc

Home Works announces the addition of Roy Kramer to its ministry team headquartered in Columbia. Roy will serve as a Project Manager for home repair efforts around the Midlands region, providing technical expertise and guidance for a variety of home repair efforts for homeowners in need. He will also guide volunteers as they complete repairs and will lead special projects such as home modifications for Veteran and disabled homeowners, development, and volunteer site leader recruitment.

Roy brings a wealth of experience and care to his role with Home Works, having previously served at Central South Carolina Habitat of Humanity for 27 years, 17 as Executive Director.

“We are excited and certainly blessed for Roy to join the Home Works family,” said Joe Huggins, Executive Director of Home Works. “He brings a heart for Christ centered ministry, home repairs, and the City of Columbia and we are grateful to have him play a role in bringing compassionate construction to those who need it most.”

Home Works is headquartered in Columbia and has served South Carolina since 1996, providing free home repairs to qualified low income elderly, disabled and veteran homeowners. These crucial home modifications are provided thanks to the time and energy of on average 1,100 student and adult volunteers each year.

Home Works of America is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1996 whose mission is to show God’s love to those in need by repairing homes, assisting in youth development, and empowering communities to care for their own.
