Fáilte go dtí Scoil Muire na Mainistreach. The Mon has a long tradition in the centre of Killarney town and has served generations of families from the Killarney area and beyond. Our school was opened on our present site in 1958, but the first school run by the Presentation Brothers was opened on College Street in 1838. Our school has a Catholic ethos and we cater for boys from classes 2nd to 6th.
We aim to develop the child as a whole person and emphasize many sporting, musical and artistic activities throughout the school.
We also aim to foster a strong environmental awareness in the pupils through our Green Schools programme and our close proximity to Killarney National Park.
I hope you will find our website useful and interesting in showing you what we do in our school.

Presentation Secondary School
We are extremely fortunate to have an exceptional team of teaching and ancillary staff who work tireless to ensure that our students integrate into our school community and that they participate to their full potential in school life. We strive to help each of our students to learn and develop life skills, such as decision making, problem solving, communication, critical thinking, team work and independent learning. Students, parents and staff are all valued members of our school community. We work together nurturing our young people, promoting our school as a centre of learning and excellence, while establishing a safe place where each individual is encouraged to grow in knowledge and appreciation of their own gifts, talents and traditions.

Our school community has undergone great change over the past few years. That experience has reminded us how difficult change can be and has given us a renewed appreciation for challenges and changes our students face at different stages of their lives, in particular throughout their teenage years. We seek to work with students, parents and the wider community to ensure that our students’ educational experience here at Presentation Milltown is as positive, challenging and enjoyable as possible. As a Catholic school all that we do takes place within an ethos reflective of the teachings of Christ. Our daily work is inspired by the founding intentions of Venerable Nano Nagle and Blessed Edmund Rice. Through the core values of our trustee body CEIST we seek to promote spiritual and human development, show respect for every person, be just and responsible, to create an inclusive community based on gospel values and to achieve quality in learning and teaching.

Mission Statement
Our School is a centre of growth and development.
Our Aim is an education for life and living, which is realistic and challenging.
Our Inspiration is the Christian vision, which fosters the dignity and value of every human being.
School History
The Presentation Congregation was founded in Cork, by Nano Nagle in 1775 and the history of St. Brigid’s dates back to 2nd October 1793 when the Presentation Sisters came to Killarney.
The foundation in Killarney was noted by the annalist with emotion: “This is the first branch transplanted from the parent tree”. The first convent and school consisted of three houses in New Street.
A new building was completed in 1803 and later an industrial school was added in which girls were taught needlework, crochet, lace making and knitting. The Killarney Lace School was to become famous.
Another building was completed in 1875. In 1948 the Presentation Sisters opened a Secondary School. The foundation stone of St. Brigid’s Secondary School was laid in 1950. In 1984 the present extension to the school was completed.
