CASE 1. ALMA ELECTRONICS: I'll dream of you
Mr. Andy Mallari opened a small shop selling transistor radios in 1979. His store was located at one corner (Gen. Luna St.) of the entire stretch of Burgos Avenue, the main thoroughfare of Cabanatuan City. The demand for electronic parts made him carry a wide assortment parts that are used in the assembly and maintenance of radios, tape recorders, amplifiers, and various related appliances. By 1990, Mr. Mallari was able to save enough money for the purchase of a 300 square meter lot along Del Pilar Street. He constructed a 10x15 meters two-storey building on the lot. The ground floor is used as his store where sales are made to customers which grew in number month after month. The second floor is used as his residence. Mr. Mallari thinks that he can duplicate his feat in the other big towns of San Jose City, Gapan, and Guimba. He has already started operating his stores in those towns and sales are already picking up. His current operations cover sales and repair. There are five sales ladies in Cabanatuan attending to the various needs of the customers. Those who bring their appliances for repair are served by one of the six technicians. The parts used come from the stocks maintained at the store. Those who purchase parts from the store consist of technicians from the various towns of Nueva Ecija. Sometimes, the technicians send somebody to do the purchasing of parts. Mr. Mallari's perspective has changed drastically after he met his former classmate Estelito Chan in a class reunion at Araullo University. Mr. Chan has a well-established appliance assembly plant in Manila. He indicated that he did not start big but rather as a subcontractor for a large assembly plant. Slowly, Mr. Chan's business picked up until he was able to establish his own factory. Mr. Mallari thinks that he can follow the footsteps of his friend. As he is already 47 years old and his oldest child is about ready to enter college, he thinks this is the best time for him to consider sending his son to an engineering school. His decision will center on which school and which engineering course. He feels that his children are keenly interested in whatever career he will ask them to take. Mr. Mallari has three sons, all belonging to the top ten in their respective classes. He thinks all three have the potential to help him realize his dream of establishing his own assembly plant. His immediate concern now is to identify the right college courses for his children.

The Department of Education (DepEd) is now in four (4) years of implementing the K to 12 Curriculum, Basic Education Program (BEP). Since the curriculum was changed, different strategies & methodologies was also changed. Varieties of trainings, seminars, and workshops were provided to all educators from the top up to the last level, one among which innovations, the additional two (2) years in high school level, and kindergarten as prerequisite to enroll in grade-I. K to 12 curriculum aimed to equip students with necessary trainings, hands-on to develop and improved individualβs skills for them to become globally competitive citizen. Such trainings will be of help for them in seeking better job in our country and abroad. Specifically those students who will just graduate from high school and could not afford to enroll in college due to poverty. Now, in K to 12, Tech-Voc courses are offered in accordance with the Training Regulations (TR ) granted by TESDA, as primary partner of DepEd. These courses will be undertaken by the T.L.E subject. In grade 7 and 8, exploratory mini courses will be introduced once every grading period. No duplication of mini course will be given to the students. This is in preparation for them to Junior and Senior high school. In grade 9, students have the right to choose the course depending on their skills. Teachers who will assist and guide our students in grade 9 up to 12 must also be a National Certificate Holder (NC). as one of the major requirements of the curriculum. In line with the new changes aforementioned, Technology and Livelihood Education (T.L.E) plays important part on this new curriculum. The subject comprises of four areas; Home Economics, Agriculture, Industrial Arts, and ICT. Graduates in Senior High School under Tech-Voc courses would be ready to be employed through actual application of their trainings. The T.L.E will serve as their stepping stone in seeking better life. In effect, T.L.E subject serves as the Key to K to 12 Curriculum. Although the aim of K to 12 has offered long-term benefits among the students, yet, there are limitations that have been foreseen among schools, such as facilities, resources, and others in order to ideally implement the four areas entrusted in T.L.E classes, and Baybay National High School at Baybay City Leyte is not immune to these limitations. Thus, it is important that the school must conduct survey on the preference of students on the four areas to be offered in T.L.E. classes and perform needs analysis so as that the school itself would be able to focus their resources based on priorities and availability. By doing so, the school would eventually structure a program to address the preferences of the students as well as gradually introduce to the students the in-demand skills that they should have so as to be offered employment, most especially those who could not proceed right away into college education.

Facility planning is a broad area to work. Many activities are carried out in facility planning. In broad terms, the decisions regarding plant locations, plant design which consists of structural, layout and handling systems design. The brief review of selected literature in the area of facility layout problem. The main aim of this study is improving or enhancing the existing layout arrangement of machine to decrease transportation cost and distance travelled in the manufacturing industry addis Abeba .The manufacturing industry is considered as back bone of growth and development of a nation. The study used quantitative approaches and obtained the relevant data through, formal interview and observation t. secondary data are obtained from internet and different book and journal articles. The collected data have been analyzed by analytical tool, which is found Microsoft Excel named CRAFT tool and to draw the existing layout and the improved or proposed layout we were use designing software AutoCAD 2020 version. Since the total transportation cost of the precision manufacturing industry 7832.34 birr/day whereas, after improving the existing layout of machines we get the total transportation cost is 4658.56 birr/day which is decrease by 40.5% and the existing total distance from one machine to another machine is 229.11 whereas, in the improved layout the total distance from one machine to another machine is decrease to 192.75 which is 15.9% of the total value and save 36.36m space. Finally the conclusions and recommendations are drawn out by considering the fact that a well design layout or arrangement of machines increase the overall productivity of the company by cutting down unnecessary cost.
