I am attempting to make a TTS voice that allows NPCs to talk, similar to that one 3:DS game Tomodachi Life. I’ve found very few resources on this process, especially sourcing sounds for pronunciations. How would I do this?

Requirements to Use Voice Chat on Roblox

While not fully necessary to use voice chat, we suggest verifying your phone number and email address as a precautionary step. To verify them both, head to your accounts settings by clicking on the Cog -> Settings on your desktop. Voice chat also known as spatial voice or Chat with Voice , is a feature that was announced on the Roblox Blog on September 2, 2021, [1] and was later was released on November 8, 2021, to all 13+ users. [2] It allows users to engage in voice chat within spatial experiences on Roblox .

Enabling [ ]

Voice chat option in Roblox Studio.

During its testing phase, eligible users would receive a private message on their account on how to participate in the feature. Developers can enable voice chat feature in the options section of home in Roblox Studio regardless of having access to the feature itself. Eligible users in the feature would receive a notification when they join an experience that has enabled voice chat. Originally, the feature was only available at the Roblox Community Space , but now all developers can enable voice chat in their experiences. [3]

On September 21, 2021, it was announced that the feature when released, would be available only to 13+ accounts as well as needing an age verification .

Eligible users in an experience will see a microphone icon next to their username and above the Avatar of other users that have voice chat enabled. Users will not be able to see who does or who does not have voice chat. Users will also be able to mute by clicking the microphone of another user. [4] In experiences which enabled the feature, only a maximum of 30 users can be allowed.

While viewing the game's main page, users who have access to voice chat will be able to see whether the game has voice chat enabled or not.

During RDC 2021 , it was announced that users could swear, as long as it is within moderation terms. [5]

A Spatial Voice Suspension or Voice Chat Ban is an administrator action that Roblox moderators can do to a player if they see the player is breaking the rules of voice chat. This can be a temporary or permanent suspension based on the action.

The feature has mainly been criticized for how users will talk within the feature. Some are worried that users will use profane language to younger players. It has also been speculated that there will be new ways to ask for personal information from scammers , as well as online dating . Voice chat's moderation has also been criticized, with many users complaining that the report system can easily be abused to get innocent players suspended from voice chat even if they don't say anything, and that suspensions from the feature do not provide reasons and cannot be appealed. Roblox Rolls Out New AI to Translate Text Chat in Real-Time

Roblox is furthering its ai push with automatic text translation. it's also 'exploring' an automatic voice translation feature..

Roblox has launched a new in-game text chat feature that automatically translates text from 15 languages into a player's preferred language, CTO Daniel Sturman announced Monday.

The new feature taps a custom-built AI large language model (LLM) that translates text inputs in just 100 milliseconds. Sturman says Roblox's translation LLM can handle Roblox-specific slang as well as abbreviations, like "AFK" (away from keyboard) or "obby" (obstacle course) without getting tripped up.

Players will now see a message that "Roblox automatically translates supported languages" above its in-game chat box feature across its numerous 3D worlds, according to an image in the announcement. Users will also be able to click to see the original language text if desired.

Translation between any combination of languages is fully supported, including English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish, to name a few.

Instead of building separate AI translators for each language pair, Roblox created a single model that can handle any combination, which allows it to handle text inputs with multiple different languages at once.

Roblox used "available open source data" as well as its own translation data to train its new chat LLM, Sturman said. The company also plans to evaluate its translations for quality over time and add a feedback tool that will allow players to share their thoughts.

Roblox, which saw over 70 million daily active as of November 2023, plans to " double down " on generative AI tool development this year.

The company is also actively looking into automatic voice chat translations, which would allow players to receive real-time translations of other spoken voices. "While this may sound like science fiction today, and it will take some time to achieve, we will continue to push forward on translation," Sturman said.

Roblox's latest AI tool comes a few months after it announced its AI-powered Roblox Assistant , an accessibility and creator tool that allows users to build in-game content by typing text prompts on the platform.

R oblox is rolling out a new AI feature today that enables real-time translation of users’ text into various languages. Following this update, the Roblox team is gearing up to introduce a feature that will extend this translation capability to voices, leveraging its AI technology.

With this latest addition, Roblox users can now type messages in their preferred language and instantly see them translated into other supported languages within the gaming environment.

This functionality will be accessible across all Roblox experiences utilizing TextChatService. For instance, a user typing a message in German can have it displayed in English for an English-speaking recipient, while a Korean-speaking user can interact with the message in Korean simultaneously.

The Roblox team views this text translation feature as an initial step towards broader AI-generated translation possibilities in the future.
